Re: Allegiance
Dear oh dear, some people have really plunged to the absolute depths of ignorance on this thread.
Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything. However, do some of you mind if some of us participate in over 1,000 years of history, without you ridiculing us?

It’s a simple invitation to accept or decline. Either way nobody should be ridiculed & every single choice should be respected.2 Bee Holed wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 12:16 amDear oh dear, some people have really plunged to the absolute depths of ignorance on this thread.

Great argument; it's been done for 1,000 years so we have to therefore continue it.2 Bee Holed wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 12:16 amDear oh dear, some people have really plunged to the absolute depths of ignorance on this thread.

Let's bring back public floggings as well whilst we're at it
Re: Allegiance
Generally, God allegedly talks to the king. When he talks to other people, historically, they seem to get killed off pretty quickly. It's very convenient.NRC wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 8:59 pmIs that listed as a 1,2,3? Who has first call on displaying allegiance? If God asked someone or all of us to do something, how would we know, and who would inform us? Charles as head of the Church of England? Does that give the Scots, Welsh, and those from Northern Island a pass if it was made apparent to us that God wanted us to invade France?

Nobody forced Charles to become a very good friend and confidante of Jimmy Savile, that was his own choice.2 Bee Holed wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 12:16 amDear oh dear, some people have really plunged to the absolute depths of ignorance on this thread.

A man in his 30s who gets engaged to a teenage girl. Weird right. Sort of spin that the Mail and Express would put on it if they were trying to discredit someone. A man who we expect to represent our country as the head of state and he doesn't have the basic knowledge on how to work a fountain pen!!! A man who had absolutely no intention of staying faithful to his marriage vows. He would rather shag some old prostitute instead. Are you in love, of course says Diana...whatever that is says the jug eared moron. Morally questionable and not fit for high office. But he is our, sort of, hereditary king so thats OK then.

Re: Allegiance
This thread is about the plebs swearing allegiance to the monarch. A spokesman for Lambeth Palace, the archbishop's office, said: "The homage of the people is particularly exciting because that's brand new."2 Bee Holed wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 12:16 amDear oh dear, some people have really plunged to the absolute depths of ignorance on this thread.

Now we've established it's not a tradition, do you mind if some of us call out the badly judged arrogance of the invitation and the embarrassing sycophantic reverence of the acceptance?
Re: Allegiance
I will be swearing but it won't be allegiance to Jimmy Savilles mate and WEF bigwig the King of Woke.

That ten days after the queen popped her clogs was nauseating; you couldn't escape it. I'll be dropping everything and leaving the country when this big-eared **** does the same. I'll be keeping myself busy doing something else for the coronation.

Seeing Giles Brandreth on morning tv with his novelty coronation themed knitwear is really whetting the appetite for this momentous occasion.

Some quite funny replies on this thread.
The order of service says “all who so desire”, nobody is being asked to pledge allegiance. It is just for those who feel traditionally comfortable doing so. The media has misrepresented it as usual. Charles is the last person who would expect others to doff the cap or bend the knee.

If the worldwide TV rights had gone elsewhere you would quickly be on here moaning about that.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 4:42 pmDo you really think the worldwide Television right revenue will make it's way into the hands of the people?
I'll give you the pub thing
Palace of Versailles has way more annual visitors than any Royal associated monument in the UK
Given your knowledge of the Palace of Versailles perhaps we should adopt the French system. The people seem to be so much happier and content. It’s not as though they spend their Bank Holidays demonstrating on the streets. Oh hang on a minute

They’re demonstrating so it remains that way and they keep their liberties & don’t just roll over to accept an increase to the pension age like we do - I respect that

Re: Allegiance
The French economy is basically screwed and cannot afford for people to sit back with their feet up as soon as they reach 60. As for fighting for their liberties the legislation on the pension age has already been approved and passed.
Still great entertainment though to see them out on the streets of Paris rattling their pots and pans.
Of course we all benefit if the UK economy receives the widely reported £1bn boost in the form of increased tourism etc. Hotels across London fully booked. The BBC is a publicly funded organisation so if it receives hundreds of millions of £’s in TV rights all to our benefit.

Hotels across London booked - some boost to the wealth of the people that, as though they aren't booked pretty much all the time and as though that's what we need - more money being spent down in the capital, sure benefits the rest of the nation doesn't itkentonclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 3:46 pmThe French economy is basically screwed and cannot afford for people to sit back with their feet up as soon as they reach 60. The mental gymnastics people do to justify an aristocracy is staggering
Re: Allegiance
The Royals are an anachronism and so is God. These things should have no place in our institutions.
It's so obvious yet nobody, including me, is willing to do anything about it except ignore it.

Re: Allegiance
Charles was poor in how he treated Diana. I'm sure pretty much everyone would agree with that but she kind of got her own back with her liaisons. In no particular order, James Hewitt, James Gilbey, bodyguard 1, bodyguard 2, Will Carling, Hasnat Khan, Dodi Fayed and no doubt another one or two who I either can't remember or were more discreet.

Actually going to a coronation party with the neighbours
Not my thing at all, but we do have elderly neighbours so its a good chance to see them all
I hope no one asks me to join in with the swearing of allegiance!

At least the undesirable old goat ended up giving us all an extra day off work. That's worth swearing to.
In others news, have you guys seen the state of his fingers these days? Bloody hell. He's little more than a ball of inflammation these days.
Looking forward to the next one.
