It's a fairly educated conjecture though, to be fair. The Odobert deal is reportedly agreed between the clubs, which makes it seem like a formality at this point, and the journalist who reported on the Daramy deal was Fabrizio Romano, who is as legit as they come, and it's a deal which certainly seems viable all things considered. Reported by Romano as a top priority for us too. So you've got 2 wide attacking players whom it is reliably reported that we're in for, one of them costing about £10m, the other about £13m. It just wouldn't make sense to go for those two PLUS Tella, who'll set us back at least £15m. There's the obvious benefit (assuming it goes to play and these lads can play) of two assets potentially appreciating rather than just the one, and there's also the added benefit of these two not taking up a squad place because of their age unlike Tella, which leaves us room for late signings or the possibility of not having to leave anyone we currently out of the 25 man squad. Perhaps Southampton were asking for too much up front, perhaps the other fees are performance based, who knows? But it would seem odd to go for all three at this point.

Don’t forget there’s also Townsend to add to the names of Odobert, Daramy and tella, I really can’t see us signing another 4 wide players and only letting realistically churlinov and Costelloe goSpiral wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:13 pmIt's a fairly educated conjecture though, to be fair. Re: Nathan Tella
Tella utterly wasted wide right. Far more dangerous central. Thank goodness Martin has no idea how to use him to his max.
Re: Nathan Tella
I totted up the squad on the transfer thread (incorrectly thought Ameen was 22yo but was corrected by a few that he's one of the unlimited U21s we can name), so before Townsend we're at 24 players, and Townsend makes it 25. Lokonga would make it 26, so something's got to give in the squad list just to make that signing happen or we end up leaving people out. Lokonga is by far the most important addition to the squad right now. Costello won't take up a named place because of his age, but Churlinov obviously would. We're right on the limit of being able to name the 25 without wasting a wage on someone, so we need to think carefully about the over-21s we currently do have, let alone bring in another over-21 winger in Tella, especially if we can't move on some fringe players like Bastien, who I think I read has turned someone down, and Churlinov, who's recovering from a horrible illness.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:29 pmDon’t forget there’s also Townsend to add to the names of Odobert, Daramy and tella, I really can’t see us signing another 4 wide players and only letting realistically churlinov and Costelloe go

Don’t see any way bastien or churlinov being in the 25 man squad either, obafemi might miss out if his injury is going to keep him out until Jan because it’s a waste of a spotSpiral wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:42 pmI totted up the squad on the transfer thread (incorrectly thought Ameen was 22yo but was corrected by a few that he's one of the unlimited U21s we can name), so before Townsend we're at 24 players, and Townsend makes it 25. Re: Nathan Tella
Tella is wasted in that shape and role receiving the ball when the opposition defence is already in place. His only option to receive a pass and pass it back without moving. That's a waste of his main asset which is his pace.

Perhaps Nathan isn’t ambitious and is happy to play at a level where he knows he can be successful, so he isn’t putting any pressure on to move ?

Think we should move on from Tella if we can't agree a fee and look elsewhere.

It is baffling how we appear to be totally under valuing Tella …his contribution last year alone has gjven us the platform we find ourselves in now …I think 15m is reasonable for him in todays market ..he made the championship look easy and if he won’t make the step up I’m concerned about a few others in the squad

Re: Nathan Tella
Not sure on paying massively over the odds for players would be the greatest strategy! 4 weeks of the window to go let’s see what happens with the squad then.Robbie_painter wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 5:17 amVK because it’s right. If VK wanted him he’d break the bank.

I’m going to trust VK and his team on this one. If they want him and get him, great. If they think he’s overpriced so not worth pursuing, also great.
