He's a racist, sexist, homophobic ****. I think people should have the decency to say they agree with him rather than hiding behind the idea of lots of others agreeing with him.

Re: Joey Barton
Did Joey's suggestion clarify which side your ancestor needed to be fighting on? That said with >1 million Indian Army volunteers on all fronts and towards half a million Arabs helping us fight the Ottomans in the middle east, the odds are heavily stocked in favour of them being on ours.

He’s winding up B@stards fans no end which can only be a good thing. Though personally I think he’s burnt every bridge he ever had and is acting like a manic depressive on a “ high “ it doesn’t stop it being quite amusing witnessing both his very public mental breakdown while winding up the permanently offended brigade .
Though far as I can see he’s JUST keeping within the legal boundaries with his views .

I’m not sure Jeremy Vine’s legal team would agree.
Re: Joey’s in bother again
I don’t know why you are all getting worked up about this? Far more important things to get worked up about than the sometimes irrational tweets of Joey Barton.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
Perhaps Vine thinks he can afford a libel/defamation case ? as opposed to his solicitor writing a letter and a tweet being removed sans apology . I’d love to see his face if he “ wins “ ( for being called a Weasel ) and how much he’s awarded vs his costs…
Perhaps he needs to read up on “The Sun vs Ken Barlow”
I find the whole thing utterly bizzare , he could have had a cracking career as a pundit , podcasting , newspaper columns etc .

It is a bit of an indictment, isn't it, that JB's shite on twitter gets people more worked up than actual injustices and wrongdoings in the UK/world.

Isn’t that just as bad as what Barton is doing?
You’re claiming he has mental health issues because he’s posting political views you don’t agree with?

Just his engagement numbers vs other matters alone tbh. I just find it strange.
The minute people stop replying is the minute he stops.

Agree that people should really just leave him to it, deprive his ramblings of the oxygen he’s after and get on with their lives, but I have no idea how we can qualify a statement like more people are bothered about him than real issues. Feels like we’re confusing spikey little inflection points on social media for, for want of a better phrase, the real world.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 12:34 pmJust his engagement numbers vs other matters alone tbh. A few interesting comments from Nedum Onuoha about him this week.
Not sure about Onuoha’s character but he speaks quite eloquently (when two others on the podcast let him talk) about him and their time together at City and QPR.
Reinforces the point mentioned above about how good Dyche’s man management must have been.

I mean the ones that engage with him and seemingly get more wound up by Barton & co than other stuff.
Yep, which is why I refrain from centralised platforms like that now as much as possible.
Re: Joey’s in bother again
a lot of his views are not "political" at all, they are straight forward out to offend people.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 12:33 pmIsn’t that just as bad as what Barton is doing?

anybody committing to the level of outpouring or inflammatory posts like Joey is doing certainly isn't in the right frame of mind. it is not well thought out, it is not discussing current events, its completely random, scattergun approach. he's not well.
but like i say, some of it i agree with him on, some of it i dont.

Twitter always needed a bit of self curation but it was pretty clear what direction it would take when the takeover occurred. I’d been a regular user since 2010 but I ditched it and tbh, don’t miss it. It just seems to exist to get people raging at each other - Barton is a pretty solid case study.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 1:02 pmYes, you're right.

True , but how many gazillions of people on Twitter must use that term of abuse? he’d need very very deep pockets indeed. It doesn’t excuse JB’s inane scattergun rants though . I’d shut the place down it’s 95% dreadful garbage with seemingly constant abuse from one “ political tribe “ to another. Would anybody really miss that cesspit?

Continuity for which people exactly does he prefer?getbennyon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 10:52 amHe doesn't have hate or resentment, he's simply rejecting the changes in our society and prefers continuity for our people...it's a view shared by the majority of the planet.
We've created a society that is increasingly afraid of its own shadow but he's made his money and says what the hell he wants without the fear of negative financial consequences. When he made comments about the demographic changes in Blackburn he's regarded as right-wing, full of hate, resentment, racist etc. but it's noticeable nobody called him a liar.
Re: Joey’s in bother again
Joey Barton isn’t working for the supposedly impartial BBC though. The BBC that us citizens are funding, not through choice either.
Therefore I do find Lineker’s tweets inappropriate. If he went working for some other broadcaster he could post what he liked.
Working for the BBC in a high profile position should mean that he keeps his personal views to himself. Something like the Director General indicated, but sadly hasn’t reinforced or better still fired him.

I did like him when he played for England though. I liked him a lot.

People really comparing Linekers tweets to that of Barton who in reply to someone about the Blackburn tweet replied "how can the grass grow when all them fellas are shouting at it and butting it" really? Even the most thick amongst you must realise what Barton is not funny or well placed or sticking up for the unheard any longer

Re: Joey’s in bother again
The amusing thing with the Lineker comparison is that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone suggest that Joey Barton shouldn’t be allowed to air his views, yet plenty on here believe that Lineker should be denied his platform because he works for the BBC. Hypocrites.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
If Lineker had never worked for the BBC, and MOTD was an ITV production or on Amazon Prime, he'd still get the same abuse from the same brain-dead goons. They just use his employer as a pass to freely abuse. Of course, these people will deny that's the case... because they're brain-dead goons.
Re: Joey’s in bother again
Well, they used to call it “politically correct”, but folk cottoned on that that just means “not bigoted”, so they had to rebrand, by (mis)appropriating a word used for decades by African-Americans to mean “alert to social injustice”.
Happy to help.

Now that he's not not involved in football anymore any hes reverted back to where he belongs, with the all scallies and scroats. He’ll be in prison within two years.

Re: Joey’s in bother again
Here's a definition of woke from the last time I posted it here.
Politically correct is something I'm normally happy to go along with. It means not using words and phrases that are offensive. The only trouble I have is when people deliberately choose to be offended when no offence is intended or when the unspoken 'rules' about which phrase is/isn't permissible change and words switch from one to the other.
"Politically correct" and "woke" have little to nothing in common with each other.

Just to add, there’s no way in the world that “politically correct” was something you would have been “happy to go along with” when it was the insult du jour of the type of journalists you get all of your values / ideas from.
