Re: Formation/System Tweaks
Well, we did win. Going to a back five with no obvious out ball was not necessarily what I would've done either but given the problems we've had seeing games out this season it seems extremely churlish to complain about us beating one of the league's better sides 1-0.

I doubt we're going to get 90 minutes out of Tella regularly. Good news is we have a surfeit of players for the wide roles, plus the chance to use up to five subs every game, so if he's gassed/broken at 60-70 mins each week it's really not a big deal.

Where are the people wanting Zaroury to start playing Tella? Depends on fitness levels but would be tempted to go as close to same again as possible. Presume BPF will come in for Muric, but I'd leave Maatsen on the bench for now. I do wonder how we're going to play all these lads, but it's a long season and rotation will be needed I guess. We certainly have strength in depth and this lad will presumably push Barnes down the pecking order, which can only be a good thing.

tbf, Brownhill had been an outstanding Championship midfielder before, which is why we bought him. He should be a better player now than then, too, so not really a surprise he looks a standout player at this level.

Muric 8 - One hairy moment from the cross, otherwise excellent. Loved the support from players and fans he got for the stunning long ball to Tella. There are a lot of eggs in the Kompany basket, to be fair. Maybe these Belgian buys will pay off, but if they don't and we want to replace VK at some point, that strategy will rightly be questioned. Not many clubs give their manager so much control over transfers these days, purely because the manag...

Wood would score 20+ goals in the Championship easily, but perhaps isn't the greatest fit for our system. I think we want someone super mobile, rapid, who can also link the play. Assuming Vitinho is playing LB tomorrow - would be weird to try him there in the cup if he isn't - then seems a toss-up between Benson and Churlinov to start wide right. Might as well have a look at Churlinov as Benson hasn't done a lot yet. Rest same as Blackpool, but defend properly please.

Taylor is shortish for a CB and THB isn't quite as dominant aerially as the defenders we've been used to - Tarks, Mee, Keane, etc etc - so it's certainly something teams will look to exploit, especially when us having so much possession means teams will probably use direct counters against us. Personally I don't think the system has anything to do with conceding a goal from a long ball and a flick on, but people can keep telling themselves whatever they want about the new tactics. We have a soft underbelly.

I mean, if he is fit then he really ought to be playing given the lack of impact our wide players have made collectively so far. We know JBG has issues getting/staying fit but if - yeah, big if, I know - if he's fit he will be a proper asset for us this season, either wide or in attacking midfield.

Worth noting that for all the chat about McNeil's end product, he has a better goals/assists per game ratio in the Premier League than Gordon so far.
I cannot see how Gordon is worth over twice what they paid for McNeil, even if he is younger and quicker.
