Re: For any coaches
Every kid is different, and Coaches might have to handle situations differently, but all players need sufficient opportunity to develop. Coaches forget that they develop at different speeds and times. Often I find the reasons kids have a torrid time is because of the culture that exists around their...

Re: For any coaches
It's fun, rewarding but also painful at times, particularly dealing with some parents and opposition coaches. As a Coach you are also constantly learning. What I didn't realise until this season (I coach U13's) is how much puberty impacts development. A couple have my kids have had growth spurts and...

Re: For any coaches
On my level 1 course, the guy from the FA told me the best way to develop your team is to improve your weakest players. Football is a squad game and as they go through the age groups you need more players, and some will move on - it's not difficult to understand how important developing all your pla...

Re: For any coaches
I'm the Head of Youth at my local club and I've seen both good and bad examples (thankfully more of the former). I encourage all our coaches to rotate players fairly or at least give every player 50% of the match time and most do that. One of the coaches at my club unfortunately only cares about win...

Re: FIFA trialing changes to offside rules
I don't like making such a fundamental change, that gives more advantage to attackers. Defenders will have to play deeper as they are generally at a big disadvantage already as attackers are running in the direction they are facing so quicker. It also doesn't take away the time it takes to check VAR...

Re: VAR question
Never understood why they don't simplify it by using the players heads when drawing the offside line, it's much clearer to see, would probably speed up the process, and would prevent the big toe arguments. I do like the fact they work out the point the ball is kicked or headed independently of the o...

Re: Advice on coaching a kids team (under 11s)
Really glad it’s going well. Another thing I’ve learnt over the last couple of years, confidence plays a huge part. My team are really streaky in terms of results as they are either confident and winning regularly, or the complete opposite. Just be patient, stick with them and don’t get too down and...

I think the Russians lost some of their elite forces early on when aiming for Kiev, but I think the reports of their troops being useless is based on the fact they seem to put their non regular army in the first line or two when defending, or put them in areas where they are just expected to hold gr...

I'm Head of Youth at my local club which has 17 youth teams, plus I have coached for 4 years (currently U12), so spend time a lot of time dealing with this. The primary issue for me is the Coaches, but thankfully it's only a minority of them. In my opinion are the key person at every game who are re...

Agree, but I don't think NATO, or the Ukrainians, will care one bit about what Putin tells his people. NATO won't recognise these areas as Russia, and will continue to back Ukraine until they force them out of all areas, hopefully even the areas held before all this started. It's ok saying that, but what about the poor buggers trapped in the town. I know who is going to starve first, and it won't be the Russians that have remained there, plus I guess theres a risk of them using the locals as hostages/human shields. Absolutely love that. Wish I’d done that when I coached. I started of with one trophy, called it the Golden Boot but added a second (Golden Shield) and split them to praise both attacking and the defensive side which most of the young ones care far less about. I found that once I got to 9 a side, o...

Some great advice on here, I'm Head of Youth at our local club and have coached for about 5 years now. My advice : - Plan your session - I recommend arrival drill (skills), match type drill, match (do not forgo the match, it's their favourite part). - Equal playing time or at least 50% of game time ...

Boden’s ‘sources’ or ‘information’ are usually from other outlets/pages on Twitter rather than from someone inside the club. Thought VK was a young manager who would play modern style attacking football similar to Pep. Clearly I am wrong and it will be SD 4-4-2 as usual Reading the tactical articles about VK at Anderlecht, it's a 4-4-2 in defence but a 3-5-2 going forward. In that sense Taylor and Roberts are well suited...

I think we need a 2nd VAR, for clear and obvious errors, like ones made by the two numpties who sent off Lowton last night. The only way to help prevent bias or subconscious bias is to increase the number of people making VAR decisions. It's not going to cost that much money, and certainly not compa...

Hi Tony, My questions would be : - 1. Why, when there is so much money in football, and these decisions can make huge differences to cl...

Whilst I didn't think it was a pen, I can see where Rowls is coming from, and I'd like another look on MOTD. VAR if used correctly shouldn't impact the Referee at all, he should just make calls as he sees them, rightly or wrongly and VAR overturns the calls that are clearly wrong i.e. not debateable. The issue is that it's not made clear to people that if there is any doubt, it stays with the referees orig...

I think the issue is that most people including pundits just ignore the 'clear and obvious' element of VAR. My mum's had 8 or 9 replacements done since her first one in her 20's. JBG has looked lively, Lennon too until it comes to the cross. Westwood can't find a teammate further than 5 yards away.
If we're not careful, we are going to get suckered and have a big hill to climb at 0-2 going in to the 2nd leg.

It Long had put the ball in the net from the free kick before Hendrick was given offside, would it have counted? Long looked onside, but it was hard to tell if he was given off or if the flag only went up on Hendrick. If so, Long should have buried it from where he was.
