Re: Exit at last 16 is a failure

It will be a failure if they play with the handbrake on again, too regularly turning attacking opportunities into "safe possession". I think I'd prefer they give it a proper go and get beat, than watch another game like the last three.. Use the pace that's in the squad (yep ditch Kane) and Germany w...

I remember watching Burnley pre season training running the avenue of trees in front of Towneley Hall and Hancock was streets ahead in pace and fitness compared with the rest. I predicted great things on the back of that. I don’t think I’ve ever been more wrong or disappointed.

Quite surprised by that. Obviously really good to hear, especially since it was an answer given to a neutral media and he wasn’t playing to the crowd. Something quite sad about it though given it was a period plagued by injury.

It's a balance. Lots of people play too long (at the wrong level) and suffer physically as they age and regret it. My advice is to play for fun, look after yourself, and never, ever play injured. Basically what my Dad does and he still plays proper (not walking) football approaching 70!

When I played I’d see gloves as a sign the opposition wasn’t up for it. The first challenge would usually be more robust to try and set that tone. No logic at all but gave me a marginal boost believing it.

He hasn’t had a save to make in 3 games, his job is to keep the ball if possible and be efficient in his work to keep things calm at the back..Major tournaments might be different but I can understand why Nick Pope isn’t the ideal choice when there are few saves to make.

I think the kicking is a significant issue unfortunately. His footwork can generate panic at the back and affects defenders decision making, which is far from ideal at that level.
