Re: Well done Burnley Women

My niece plays for Coundon Court Ladies. It's been brilliant watching them form afar as they've gone through the first few rounds of the cup. When they won their second round tie I was really hoping they'd draw Burnley. Even though they got hammered, the Coundon Court girls were still buzzing about ...

Re: Unhappy Claret who has Nobody

Hi Mick I volunteer with Lifeline, the Australian equivalent of the Samaritans. Lots of people on this thread have talked about reaching out to talk to someone which is great advice. One thing that we always say, is reach out no matter what, doesn’t matter how big or small you may think the issue is...

Re: What’s your favourite type of goal ?

The type of goal that Ashley Hoskin scored away at Swansea on a Friday night in February 1987. Ran the length of the bobbly pitch and beat every Swansea player in the process. Great skill, control , balance, composure. Never seen a better goal.

Re: Your biggest sporting achievements?

Took a hat trick at cricket, scored a hat trick playing rugby union and a treble hat trick playing football in the same year. Scored 5 in one game on the Turf in a team managed by Andy Lochead who said to me ‘Son, you can play’, 2 more on the Turf in other games, 2 at Villa Park, 5 at Leicester for ...

When he arrives, he’ll feel at home - it’s chucking it down. Where is he going to be based, as others have said, it’s very geographically spread. I’m north of the river.

Re: ARTICLE: World Cup Billy

I remember being allowed to go to my first game with mates rather than my dad. Think it was around 1982 against Newport County, must have been one of the first home games. We were walking down Harry Potts Way past the club to get in the long side and Billy Hamilton came out of a door and asked if I ...

Dad’s from Great Harwood and a Rovers fan, mums from Clayton Le Moors and a Claret. Lived in Great Harwood when I was born but grew up in Church till I went off to Uni in Leicester in 1985. Lived in Coventry from 1988 up to 2013 when we emigrated to Perth, Western Australia.

The plan is for Glory to take it on as they move back to their permanent home. The CEO at Perth Glory and the president of the Macedonian Football Club (Flory’s temporary landlord) couldn’t have been more supportive.

Re: The Big Match - Burnley v Arsenal 1975

Thank you for posting this Cricketfield. This was my first ever game. I remember my dad giving me the fixture lists for Burnley and Blackburn and saying chose a game and we’ll go. I picked this one and been a Claret ever since. Dad is now late 70’s and struggling with dementia but it was great to sh...

I didn't realise that Andy Comyn played for Derby County in that game. I know Andy and always enjoyed reminding him about the time he was left sat on his arse by John Francis in the play off win against Plymouth - another great away day.

I was on the Avenida 9 de Julio in 2018 for the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic games with 250,000+ other people which was an incredible experience, but that looks way bigger - must have been amazing to be a part of it.

I sent a message to the admin email address about the Foodbank process but I'm not sure who is best to try to connect with - I'm talking to a football club in Oz about a partnership with FoodBank. Be good to pick someone's brains and maybe talk about some PR.

Played in the Football Aid game at Turf Moor a few seasons back, great experience and great memories. Gerry Harrison was on our team and we were up against Big Vince. Andy Lochhead managed our team (away shirts) and Willie Irvine managed the home shirts.

I'm coming back to the UK in a few days from Western Australia for a holiday, and one of the things I'm looking forward to is proper black pudding. (also looking forward to Lancashire cheese, potato pies and hopefully the fella selling black peas is still in Accrington.)

Hipper - the umpire decides and it's usually pretty obvious who's complaining about a decision or shouting from the side lines. There's a bloke over here who coached the national team, is a legend of the sport, inducted into the hall of fame but was the worst offender for abusing the umpires. His te...

Re: Who'd be a ref ?

My eldest played football upto under 9’s when we lived in Coventry. Similar experience to many above, the abuse from parents and coaches on the sideline, plus a coach telling him he let the team down by conceding 2 goals (he’s a Gk), led to him giving up. On the plus side, he took up hockey and hasn...
