Re: Reading & Wokingham Borough Based Clarets

I’m in North Camp (Farnborough), a stones throw from the station. I know there’s another claret about 100 yards away, as they have a sticker on the car. I keep hanging about it hoping they’ll see me! I spotted another car emblazoned with Clarets paraphernalia the other week. We’re surrounded! Would ...

Re: Peter Swan - Undr the Cosh

Peter Swan! Robust centre back and I think sometime defensive midfielder. I seem to remember him popping up with the odd goal too. Never shaved, he always had “3 day stubble”. He was one of my favourite players back in the day, although as a (terrible) defender myself, I always favoured those I coul...

Interesting that we seemed to play each team twice in the same week, home and away.

Was that standard practice for a time? If so, when did it start / stop?

Re: PS5 - new user with no idea - help!

Thanks everyone - really appreciate the advice. I’ll get it out if the box and do the updates etc, and get the controllers charged. I’m sure they’ll be excited, but the parental controls sound good - I don’t want them to be able to play it too much! I have now signed up for a PS account (on my phone...

PS5 - new user with no idea - help!

Hi, My last console was a NES, which came with Mario, Tetris and a football game on a single cartridge in about 1991. I’ve just bought a PS5 for my kids, and wondered what I will need to do when it is unboxed. I’m more thinking updates, accounts, family settings etc (kids are 6-8). I got a second co...

Re: Wood burner installation

Hey Inchy, We got a multi-fuel stove a couple of years back. We have an open fire too. I find multi fuel handy, as it gives an extra option. We’ve burned real coal (very hot - too hot probably), the smokeless stuff (good, and easy to manage) and wood. I now take great pleasure in collecting wood ove...

Paid my £10 to stream the game on Clarets+ this evening.

UTC
Can I watch this on my TV (Firestick / ROKU) or only on a device like a phone or tablet?

If on a TV etc, how does it work? I’d be keen to watch for £10, but not on a phone!

What happened - welcome back!

I was panicking for a couple of days not knowing where my fix of Clarets gossip and global news was going to come from.

What happened?

Anyway, thank you to those that rub the board, and to whoever bright it back online 👍🏻

As a long time lurker (20+ years) and veteran of CM and more recently UTC, can you remind me how the magic numbers work, and why we don’t have a number assigned? I know this is asked regularly (yearly anyway) but I can never remember! Also makes me think, when did the original CM get going? I’m almo...

Re: Right time to move house

Hey matey, I agree with the posters who think that a price-crash is unlikely. We bought in Sept 2020, unsure whether COVID would be world ending or not. Sometimes you have to take a little risk and nobody on this board or anywhere else in the world can tell you definitively about house prices, stock...

Well, back to the original topic, I do have one of these (bought least year) and I love it! You can use it like a normal kettle type charcoal BBQ or cook low and slow, depending on your preferences. They are a little pricey, but if you really enjoy cooking, this provides the ability to make some fan...

I’m astonished so many feel the Conservatives will get such a high percentage of the vote.

My guess as a someone who classes Burnley as “home”, but hasn’t lived there for many years:
Labour 34
Conservative 29
Lib Dem 19
Brexit 12
Green 4
BAPIP 1.5
Indy 0.5

Re: Getting new golf clubs

Hmmm. If you’re after an online shop with a fantastic selection of used kit, golfbidder is one I have used a lot. They have pretty much everything and prices are fair, as is the condition (anything that is 8/10 or higher condition wise will look pretty much new). That said, I totally agree with the ...

Re: Selling a house and renting it back

I guess over the long term, the higher SDLT shouldn’t stop a rental purchase being viable, and I think you could get around it by selling one house every 3 years, although this would be a slightly dubious tactic.

Re: Selling a house and renting it back

Thanks J50 - I agree I’d have to be between the BMV buyers and that agreeing a price is always tough (especially if you try and cut out estate agents - which in themselves probably add 1% ish to the cost). Some interesting thoughts - I don’t think this is a large scale opportunity and the tough bit ...

Oh and finally, that lump sum might only be a small amount if the owner only had (say) £10k equity - not everyone would be outright owners of their house.

Re: Selling a house and renting it back

Firstly, I think (certainly don’t know) there are quite a few situations where it might work: - No / small mortgage but poor credit and significant repairs required. It isn’t always easy to get credit, even for relatively small amounts (£2-3k) required for boiler / roof / kitchen etc). - Want the ca...

Selling a house and renting it back

Cards on the table - I have a couple of houses let out in Burnley and am interested in the property market - but am very small time. I'm interested in the idea of buying a house from someone who has been there for a while, and renting it back to them. I'd buy at a normal market rate, taking into acc...

I quit and joined the Army at 27 - I love it, fantastic variety and actually generally quite relaxed.

Just a thought.
