You could, but let's be honest Dunne was a bit-part player, and he only got a couple of appearances in the last few games as we were already safe, and injuries were taking their toil. as for Gibson he's not kicked a ball in anger at Burnley for about 18 months if not longer, so he can hardly be considered as a squad member really, and it made sense for us to recoup any decent amount we could for his services.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 7:23 pmWell, you could see it differently.
Dunne and Gibson out for fees and Collins in for a bit more than we've recouped, so the squad is actually smaller.
I don't disagree that the squad is thinner, Brady has also been released, so you'd hope with the transfer fees received, and the wages saved we'd have at least some wriggle room in the market to get a couple of additional signings, besides Collins and Hennessey as useful as they may both prove to be next season.
A pacy right winger has to be at the top of our shopping list as a priority signing, and possibly another centre mid, and maybe a striker if we want to upgrade on Barnes probably, he's the one who's likely to be 4th choice when everyone is fit, so if he could get a move to the Championship and regular action that might be suitable for all parties.
The business we've conducted thus far I'm happy with, but we do need to strengthen in key areas if we're to avoid another season of struggle.
As many posters correctly state we finished 17th last season, and it was only the haplessness of the bottom 3 that ensured we enjoyed a relatively calm finale to the campaign, we can't continue to rely on other teams being so clueless every season, and we need to act in this window to start rectifying our deficiencies, otherwise we risk falling back to the Championship, which with our wage bill and debt we can ill afford to do.
