With the amount of signings we’re sourcing from Belgium it would make sense to get a proper partnership with a Belgian club and once you take the big clubs out of the equation we could do a lot worse than Mechelen

I suspect our owners will make the Premier League work for us and in some ways I’m more excited by our forthcoming promotion that I was following our other promotions.

Obviously nothing new but the PL gets further away from anything resembling a football league every year. Obscene expenditure and it really should be stopped if we want to keep what little semblance of competition there is. It can't/ won't be though.

I was more alluding to the sustainability of a club like ours operating in an environment where the minimum cost of incoming players seems to be £20m…! And we’d clearly need a few of those to strengthen the team from what we have now. But hopefully they have a plan for that, as you say.

I know people don't like bringing these two clubs up for various reasons but Brentford/Brighton have to be our model. Brighton's entire team that beat Liverpool 3-0 the other week was a total 31m in cost. They got 25m for Potter when he went to Chelsea and hired a better coach for free.

Regardless, more to the point they have shown you can build good quality teams through good recruitment and stay in the league with good quality managers. Between Caicedo and MacAllister they’ve got another 100-130m of sales if they needed to.

I have been pointing this out for years but few seem to actually listen - but now Brighton have become - The model club (which used to be ourselves, West Brom before us and Charlton before them - so god help Brighton and Brentford). It is also worth noting that Brentford owner Mathew Benham help produce the original models for Bloom before starting out on his own
