I meant to say watch it again.

Of course I've seen the first one, any sci-fi fan has.

As the nights draw in and some of us go and support our local Cinema's and or Film Societies viewings I'm looking forward to some more interesting films again.

Bit early for me as I'm still in summer mood, but looking forward to some recommendations on this thread.

Brooklyn, not a Friday night film over emotional and predictable.

Watched a film called Swiss Army Man last night. It was very strange but that was expected based on the trailer!

It shouldve been called 5hit. It was that crap i forgot go review it. The original was the only film that scared me as a kid. This was more like a teen comedy.

Argo was ok. But not the best film ive seen either.

I've had that downloaded on my computer for a year and I finally gave it a viewing a few nights ago.
My only disappointment was that it was good but it could have been great. Maybe it bit off more than it could chew but some of the twists and turns were classic.

It's well worth a watch though, I'd recommend it.

Not much of a family film and not much fun but if you haven't seen 'Tyrannosaur' then you will have missed one of the most powerful 'Brit' films made.

I've just started watching a film called Life is beautiful. It's rated 4th best film of all time according to a list I found on IMDB. Has anyone seen it?

Is that the one about a family sent to a concentration camp?
I'd never heard of it until you mentioned it, the usual film review magazines never mention it in their top 100 films.

Yes that's the one. I've never seen it before i were just going off the list I had found that's all. It's started off a bit meh. I'll persevere.

Do you mean this?

If you liked that check out some of Benigni's other work, notably this:

It's another modern classic.

Well worth sticking with it - It gets quite tense and then has a lump in throat ending.

I saw it on film4 years ago at about 2 in the morning and then spent ages trying to look for it again remembering it a while later.

Mentioned way back in the thread was "The Angels Share" - one of my favourite films.

I quite like dark gritty films - if you fancy giving a few films a go that arent the usual sort then.

Dead Mans Shoes - soldier comes back to his old town with a score to settle. (british film)

Gran Torino - Clint Wastwood as a racist, lonely old man that builds a bond with a neighbours asian kid - story flows well and a good ending.

The Blind Side - true story of an african american kid who had a rough start to life and changed it with sports - funny moments throughout and doesnt drag.

I have watched too many films and could go on for days haha.

Life is Beautiful is really a film of two halves. The first part is a bit slapstick and is typical of Benigni's humour. The second part depends on your sensitivities as it's set in a concentration camp but despite that has some funny moments as well as a sad but neat ending.

Overall it is about a father trying to negotiate a path for his child through very trying times in WW2 Italy.

Billion Dollar Baby - QUALITY film for anybody who hasn't seen it - Another Clint Eastwood film where he is a relluctant boxing trainer to Hilary Swank - Very deep ending and doesnt drag which usually happena with these sort of films - definitely doesnt follow the generic sports film story.

Fair play for giving it another go - the film really does turn 180 but you have to stick with it - the start is boring on it's own but is what makes the ending so much better/worse.

Watched La La Land last night. Not really my sort of film (I generally dislike musicals) but I like the two lead actors who had good chemistry. Some nice music in there (particularly the jazz) and the cinematography was excellent.

If "IT" is still showing, I'd recommend that. I'm taking my nephews to see Paddington 2 at some point in the next few weeks. I think the adults laughed more than the kids in the first one!

OK, you may laugh at this but yesterday I recorded and saw 'Lover Come Back' with Doris Day and Rock Hudson.

It's a pretty funny film if you're in the right mood. There's one scene with the two stars where they're at an aquarium and as Rock succeeds in luring Doris into his trap there's an image of an angler fish using its lure to catch a fish. See around 0.44 here:

Anyway, to regain my intellectual mode, if I have one, Andrei Tarkovsky is recognised as an artist in films. His movies seem to me to go on a bit long and can be tedious but two stand out. 'Solaris', which was remade with George Clooney not so long ago, and the best one, 'Stalker'.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/?ref_=nv_sr_3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What I like about this is that when they are in 'The Zone', nothing bad actually happens but a lot of tension is still created. Like all Tarkovsky's films, they are not easy to understand, but this one is still enjoyable.

2003 South Korean original version of Oldboy is one of the best films I've ever seen. Pure cinematic tragedy. Watch it. Don't read anything else online, just find a stream or a download and get ready to stick it in your top 10 list. It's the film Quentin Tarantino has been trying to make for 25 years.

Get Out was brilliant. Directorial debut by Jordan Peele, who was also in another great film, Keanu.

Watched Blade Runner 2049 a few weeks ago and sweet tap-dancing Jesus, if it isn't one of the best films I've ever seen! That part with the embers, that's what cinema is all about for me. Roger Deakins is a genuis.

There was a separate thread for it a few days ago-Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Was tearing up at one point then bursting out laughing five minutes later. Great film. (MINOR SPOILER) Some nice meta, too, with Peter Dinklage trying to put out fires started by a crazy lady.
