Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Travel experiences to/at Wembley
I post this, as instead of going by train, I drove most of the way. Waterloo being up **** creek at present.
I was held up on the M25, so after a couple of miles, exited and cut through Heathrow Perimeter Road to the M4 and than A312. Saved loads of time, albeit lots of traffic on the A312.
Parked at Greenford - a leafy street with permit parking Mon-Fri, so easy space. Noted bus stop opposite for the return! Walked 3-400 yards and waited for number 92. It came in 5 mins. Used my free bus pass (a novelty). It flashed red but no idea what that meant and driver did not say anything. Seat for me! Got off at Wembley central and walked the few mins to the ground, chatting to a Spurs fan, also from Greenford.
Had a Guinness, watched match. In raptures. Exit ground and make way to bus stop, which I had researched night before. Bus stop did not feature 92! Walked further, in case there was another. 92 appears. Leg it back and get on. Hardly anyone at bus stop! Flash my bus pass. Red flash. nothing said. Seat for me!
More get on next stop and then the next. Full most of the way, with off's then more on along the route. Ding bell when we pass the rail bridge and bus stops. Cross road to car. eat roll and drink tea. Drive home and back inddors, in salisbury at 8.30. Incredible!
None of the usual bad wembley reports and stories. What was your experience?

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Coming from SW London we drove and parked (for free) on A40005 just north of Alperton tube and SW of the ground - on the boundary of the restricted no parking event day area. About 35 mins walk to the ground from there though could've got a bus. Better than usual train-tube-train journey.
Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
The 3 Accy Clarets coaches arrived at the pub stop about 11.30am after an easy run down. Left there at 2.15pm and arrived at the Pink coach park at the stadium at 3pm. After the match there was no Police escort but it took us only about 15 minutes to get clear of the stadium. 30 minutes stop at Norton Canes on the Toll road and arrived back in Accy around 11.30pm.

Smooth A1 drive down from Bradford, Parked up on a lefy Cockfosters side street, easy journey by tube into Wembley (45m), relatively smooth tube journey back in the car an hour after kick off and back home in time for MOTD2

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Left home around 1.30pm. Daughter drove me to Stanmore (30 mins). 5 minute wait for tube then 4 stops to Wembley. Stroll round the outside of the stadium then in for a couple of pints.
30 minutes to get on the tube but train quiet as most people going to central London. 5 minute wait then daughter picked us up and 20 minute drive home. Home by 7.15; roast dinner and a bottle of wine at 7.30.
Can we play there every week ?

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
I went via train/tube via Waterloo, from Basingstoke station.
Because the Waterloo schedule is messed up, South West trains are giving various freebies at the station - today was (decent quality) ice cream. The train ran as per the new schedule (a slightly longer than norm trip).
Got a beer and watched the last 20 mins of WBA v Stoke first half at pub near Waterloo then Jubilee line up to Wembley Park. It was a bit sweaty but uplifted by presence of quite a few sparkly "fit" dames making their way to NH Carnival on part of the journey.
Had a loiter around the ground before going in to thoroughly enjoy the game (especially the last few minutes).
Stayed to applaud the lads so was well at back of the queue for leaving. A bit of a slow march back to Wembley Park but the crowd was well marshalled and steady moving. Tube trip back to Waterloo was very sweaty and there were a fair amount of semi-miserable Spurs fans.
Train from Waterloo was as per schedule again and was home in time to read all the match reports, get some nosh and pour a drink well before MotD.
Excellent day out.

Simple one for us. Off the M40/A40 to Hillingdon and then under 20 mins on Metropolitan Line to Wembley. Easy journey back too.

I think we should start a petition asking to play at Wembley for all our London matches and always on a Sunday, when transport seems to be easier!

Just as simple of a Saturday
Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
A1 was ok, drove to Wembley, paid £1.70 in the Wembley car park, sampled the atmosphere and took photos. Had a Wimpy which took us all back years. As many did we stayed and applauded the lads off. Got back to Lincoln 8.45 apparently the A in A1 doesn't stand for Autobahn!!

3hour 3minute journey down via M6,M42,M40,A40 with very little hold up. Used the Just Park app and parked about a 10 minute walk from the stadium for £6. 10 minute walk back after the game,5 minutes to get back on the North Circular and a stress free journey back and home for 9.45pm. Very easy all round

1 hr in the car to Epping. Park for free about 2 mins walk from tube. Central line in, Mrs BoF went shopping to Stratford Westfield. Change to Metropolitan line at Liverpool St and straight to Wembley. Stopped for pizza at Epping on the way home, back in sunny Suffolk for 2100. Easy!

Well done Ian. The reason that your bus pass flashed up red is the fact that they are not valid on London Transport because Londoners have their own cards which are different to the rest of the country, however, if nobody said anything -- c'est la vie!!IanMcL wrote:I post this, as instead of going by train, I drove most of the way. OK
Stevenage to Welham Green meet brother 20 minutes, drive to Kingsbury and park in Preston Hill, 40 minutes due to A1 slow at Apex Corner.
Walk to stadium 35 minutes fine weather no problem.
Same in reverse getting back, great away point in the bag, chilli and glass of Claret just seemed appropriate. happy days!

That was my plan too, unfortunately the last space went just before we got there.ClaretTony wrote:Simple one for us. Off the M40/A40 to Hillingdon and then under 20 mins on Metropolitan Line to Wembley. Easy journey back too.
Back up a junction and we parked in the shopping centre at Uxbridge, £2.50 for the day and nowhere near as easy at Hillingdon but it did the job.
I wouldn't fancy the Wembley Station after an Arsenal Tottenham game though

Still good although you paid more for parking - was £1.60 for us. We got there really early thankfully.Burnleyareback2 wrote:That was my plan too, unfortunately the last space went just before we got there.

You would have been better off going to Ickenham which is the next station down the line. It has 170 spaces and costs £1.70 on Sundays and £2.20 on Saturdays.Burnleyareback2 wrote:That was my plan too, unfortunately the last space went just before we got there.

M40/A40 to Northolt, then up to Harrow on the Hill for parking at Underground. £1.60 to park all day, then Metropolitan Line to Wembley Park, 3stations away. Easy return journey too, back in Clitheroe at 10.10pm

Set off around 8:30 from Rochdale and took the M6, M6 toll and M40, arrived at Hillingdon after one service stop at 12:15. Tube to Wembley Park, pint in the Wembley Tavern then into the ground. Got back to Hillingdon for 6:45, off the car park at 7 and home for 10:20.

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Did anyone else see the multi storey car park adjacent to the stadium on the right as you walked up Wembley Way? It stated that event charges were being enforced yesterday. It was £40!!! BLOODY HELL!!! They were queuing up to get in!! UNREAL!!
Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Thanks Ashington. Just looked it up. It is valid but the London yellow readers can't read them. Supposed to show it to driver. I expect driver saw I was from out of town and guessed I had a pass that worked elsewhere.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:Well done Ian. Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
I made an arse of it traveling up from manor park via north cicular...hour n half for a 45 minute journey!!! No pre park plan...was gonna pay £40!!! As only had fifteen minutes to k.o. But they wouldn't take cash..drove round a couple of times and someone put us in for £20. I'll take my own advice next time and get the jubilee line!
Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Set off at 9:30, arrived at Premier Inn Wembley Parkway (next to tube stop) at 1:15, hadn`t even checked in and saw a lad I went to school with!
Highly recommended at £47.50 for a twin room.
Few pints then less than 10 minutes walk to ground with a £7.50 burger enroute, it was a good burger though!
Couple of pints on the concourse, A rather reasonable £4.95 for a pint of Marstons real ale compared to £4 for a 375ml bottle of Carlsberg **** on Turf.
Back to hotel, quick change then out for some tea, picked up some cans from Sainsburys then back to room to watch MOTD.
Set off round 1ish today, home for 5, Happy Days
Just a heads up for any return visits.
Wembley Park tube station car park was £2,50 for 24 hours and all bars and supermarkets are enforced to stop selling ale one hour before KO on match days.

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
My daughter (7) and I set off Sunday morning at 7.30 and despite 2 large 50mph upgrade zones on the M6 and M1 we got there at 11.30 to the Premier Inn at Harrow/Kenton. The M6 toll really is worth the money..quiet and a lot quicker. Had to wait to check in so used the added on pub for lunch. Then we walked around the corner to Northwick Park station. Kenton is next to the hotel but takes you into Wembley Central and then its a walk through the high street so opted for Northwick about 5 mins away that goes into Wembley Park. Just had to walk up Wembley way
Getting away was surprisingly easy too..plenty of trains.
Today we ventured into London on the tube again and visited a lot of sites (without actually going in). Saw the bands marching/horses outside Buckingham Palace..lovely walk through the Park, visit to the Tower and Tower bridge. Got a lot in in a few hours but damn was it hot today down there.
A fantastic couple of days

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
We drove up from Portsmouth - not where we live but we were at Victorious Festival (which I would definitely recommend btw) - round the M25 with a quick detour at Heathrow to avoid the queues - and then to Hillingdon where I think we got the last spot at around 2pm! (sorry Burnleyareback2 ) 25 minute tube to Wembley Park. Surprisingly quick to get back into the tube station after the match and then another 25 minute ride back to Hillingdon! Easy as!

Re: Travel experiences to/at Wembley
Pretty short journey for me and a fab day out - for Burnley fans already in London, West Hampstead [and Swiss Cottage would do the same job] on the Jubilee line, are a good base/meeting point for travelling up to Wembley [ fast trains, only about five stops] - I went in the 'Alice House' once called 'Arkwright's Wheel' and the Railway..both were fine.
- dead easy getting away after the match...they've got it sorted out at Wembley these days, but I'm glad I don't have to travel there every fortnight.

Did anybody end up going on the Chiltern Line?
That coupled with the late kickoff put me off going.
How was the train ride?
