Chris Wood

Post by TopCat » Tue Oct 31, 2017 12:42 pm

Close to being fit?
Or another slight injury keeping him out for a lengthy period?
Would have made a huge difference last night.

Agreed. Think he will miss Southampton and be back for the swans game. Think it was a hammy tweak, which is usually 2-3 weeks out.

apparently a late decision to pull him out of the squad last night.

he'll be knackered for the swansea game having just got back from the world cup play off so i doubt he'll start.

probably won't see him again now until after swansea.

We were definitely missing Vokes & Wood last night. Vokes was constantly warming up on the touchline and I would have liked to have seen Wells come on for the last 15 minutes. I don't really understand why with 2 subs available, Sean doesn't bring some fresh legs on to try get a second goal.

I hope we have Vokes back starting vs Southampton, with Wood making the bench.

Nah, the bench will probably already be in position, a nice bit of tubular steel with some racing car - style plush padding or summat of the sort.

Voksey should be ok for saturday, i dont think wood will be seen until after internationals, personally i hope he misses out playing for NZ, we need him fit for the rest of the season, think he would have enjoyed giving toon the run around last though

Agree think he would have had a field day last night,we seemed to put more crosses in last night at home than in all the other home games, pity we had Barnes trying to convert them.

doubt very much he`ll miss the internationals - he's NZ`s star player and they are already big underdogs. These games are the biggest they have played in years and Wood will play even if he is 75% fit.....so every risk he aggravates it.

I hate these international breaks - we have nearly half the team who have not had a rest this season and playing games that are mentally and physically really demanding

Sat 11/11/17 WQI New Zealand 03 : 15 Peru
Thu 16/11/17 WQI Peru 02 : 15 New Zealand

Kicks off in Peru 02:15 Thursday morning uk time. Wont be back in UK until Friday tea time at best (Unless we have a private jet waiting to fly him home straight after the game) no chance he will play against Swansea.

Yeah unfortunately as NZ's best player if he is 50% fit he'll play in such big games. Add in three very long flights and it's probably not what he really needs right now.

If he's only 50% fit, we should insist he's not ready and he can't play. I don't care if he's NZ's best player.

And I realise he'll want to play himself, but he should be made aware of the damage it could do.

Perhaps because he is more confident protecting a lead than trying to extend it.

I wondered why Ash started last night, but he gave them a rougher night last night than Sam would have done. A game made for him. Have to say where I differ I'd of thrown Wells on at 1-0, but clearly SD thought we had more than enough to hold off any threat they posed and didn't want even the light risk of changing things at that stage.

Less of the boll**ks to New Zealand please ;)
They are pretty worried over here that Burnley will attempt to do that.
I love Chris Wood not because of who he is as a player or a person, purely because he brings Burnley so much coverage over here it’s brilliant. Win, lose or draw we are on the news now days.

I’ll second what NZclaret said. Got my tickets to the playoff in Wellington and really hope we’ve got Wood!

Watched Cam Howieson play for Auckland City at the weekend and doubt he’ll be adding to his international caps.

Playing for his Country, and potentially in a World Cup, is bigger than playing for us. And rightly so.

Playing for New Zealand won't pay his mortgage. His loyalty is to his club who pay his wages and put the food on the table

I would hope the club would use a common sense approach, and realise that playing in a World Cup is arguably the biggest pinnacle for a professional footballer.

Playing in a World Cup, or even just a World Cup playoff for New Zealand, will be much further up in his life memories than playing Swansea away. Loyalty and Money are in no way linked, and nor should they be.
I'd also argue his mortgage is more than likely paid off, and he could retire tomorrow and still put food on the table for the rest of his and his families life.

You must know more than SD then.
Barnesy has come in tonight out of the blue after we made a late decision to leave Woody out and ran so hard, it was like he’d been playing every week.

I hope the Club will protect its own interests over those of the New Zealand National team. If Wood has a tight hamstring, then he needs resting. He can't be allowed to go and twang it on an international jaunt. His first responsibility(not loyalty) is to his Paymasters and not his Country.

I would most probably think he has paid off his mortgage etc. His loyalty should lie with Burnley football club, it is they who pay his wages. Footballers these days are paid to much money for all your sentimental nonsense

His "life memories" are irrelevant if he ain't fit. If he has to come off whilst playing
for NZ because his injury flared up and he was out then for a couple of months,
his memories are gonna be pretty poor.

If he's not fit to play for Burnley, he's not fit for international duty. Simples.

I think, under FIFA rules that the FA and UEFA have signed up to, the decision over whether he is fit for international duty is at the New Zealand FA's discretion. They can insist on him travelling to join the squad and letting their own medical staff evaluate him. This is often done if a player is deemed likely to play in the game following the international break. OF course, in the case of a longer term injury, the choice of the player travelling is rarely invoked.

Playing for New Zealand is not going to do his football career one jolt of good with all that travelling. The only positive is that he could be offered media work in new Zealand when he finishes football.

A lot of naive people on here. It's NZ's decision whether he plays not a thing we can do about it unless Wood himself rules out. Don't think they'll be particularly bothered about him potentially missing a few weeks for us with two of the biggest games in their history coming up.

Clubs have little say as international matches take precedence over other games.

Had a chat with a Leeds fan today who told me Wood had two long term spells out with hamstring injuries, he said he was out longer than the normal 4-5 weeks.
So let's hope it's just a slight strain, but maybe longer than we think to recover.

Dyche will want the opposition managers planning for us to use Wood even if we don't, so he will get ruled out late whatever.

Playing in important games is very beneficial to our players and stopping him from going won't do his mood any good.

How great will it be for Burnley if we have Chris Wood playing for NZ in the World Cup finals? I think that alone will pay back the investment the club has made in Chris.

I'm sure we got more for Michael Keane after he'd got a couple of England caps - and the first of those was a friendly.

Of course, we don't want Chris to suffer an injury - whether he's playing for NZ or Burnley.
