Burnley on TV.
What is it with Sky and BT Sports?
I am aware that we are not the most entertaining to watch but we are far and away the least televised team in the league this season, despite finishing 7th? What possibly could be the reason for it? Did someone at the club offend Murdoch et al?

Arsenal: 28
Man United: 28
Tottenham: 27
Liverpool: 26

Re: Burnley on TV.
7 including BT is the number of our TV appearances.
No -one likes us and that suits me fine.

Re: Burnley on TV.
Most of the clubs in the Premier League have a larger fan base than us, as a result they appeal to viewers and are more likely to get viewers for their games. Not rocket science.
Re: Burnley on TV.
Bournemouth have been on nearly twice as often as we have!whiffa wrote:Most of the clubs in the Premier League have a larger fan base than us, as a result they appeal to viewers and are more likely to get viewers for their games. Not rocket science.
Re: Burnley on TV.
That number for next seasons league games should double with all the games being played on a Sunday (providing we qualify for the group stages). I believe every Burnley European games will be on BT Sports including the qualifiers.

there's more goals in a Bournemouth matchmartin_p wrote:Bournemouth have been on nearly twice as often as we have!
Re: Burnley on TV.
We've been in roughly the same position all season with no relegation battle. We don't score many goals and are not that pleasing on the eye. Perfectly understandable.

Re: Burnley on TV.
Maximising profit is the aim.
Showing Burnley doesn't pull in the viewing figures or sponsorship ones either.
It's a no brainer, Burnley should always be in the bottom 2 or 3 teams shown live on sky.
And to be honest who cares, I'd rather be shown zero times.
Saturday 15:00 kick offs are far better than all these weird and wonderful times and days the tv companies pick anyway.

Re: Burnley on TV.
Not done us any harm no complaints from me keep under the radar with no interference all the way for me
Re: Burnley on TV.
Would agree with the "no one likes us, we don't care"/under the radar angle however, if we aren't getting shown on TV regardless of our achievements then we won't be able to command as much in sponsorship which just puts us at further financial disadvantage. So to say it doesn't/shouldn't matter is short sighted.

Re: Burnley on TV.
We're shown virtually worldwide so I can't see the amount we command in sponsorship being dented too much. Granted we're not up there with the big uns, well not in terms of appeal anyway, but even so we should be getting some serious money.

Unless you are a Burnley fan, we are sh!t to watch.
That's why we don't feature much, and that's absolutely fine by me.

When we drew against Man City, I had lots of international feedback, saying how well we had played.

Does population of a town equate to the number of people who watch a game, no.whiffa wrote:Population of Bournmouth: 183,491

Does the population of a town give an estimate as to the size of a fanbase of a club like ours? Yes.mickleoverclaret wrote:Chelmsford has a population of 168,000, not seen them on telly much this season
If you were Sky or BT - would you be televising little old Burnley in their little town with their little population?
Or teams in bigger towns and cities that likely have larger fanbase's due to larger populations AND a larger profile?
You're just arguing for the sake of arguing really.

Re: Burnley on TV.
Fan base and town or city population are not directly correlated in any way whatsoever.
Take Manchester United
Population of Manchester 560,000 (2016) or GM 2.55M (2016)
Fan base of 659M

Where do you get fan base of 659m? The bbc article makes particular reference to the difference between 'fans' and 'followers'.Rick_Muller wrote:Fan base and town or city population are not directly correlated in any way whatsoever.

Wouldn’t that be a better way of measuring a fanbase? Find it extremely hard to believe there are more Bournemouth fans in the world than Burnley fans, they hadn’t been above the 3rd division until about five years ago!

TV is more concerned with the size of the viewing audience. Ground size is virtually irrelevant.Wexford_Claret wrote:Bournemouth average home attendance: 10,000

We have to accept that we are not a massive attraction on the telly
Re: Burnley on TV.
The way the TV companies measure fanbase is the number of people who will always watch if they're on telly. Which is why Man United are on so often, because their fanbase worldwide is higher than everyone else including Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea. Then the TV companies want to show teams that neutral fans will watch - eg. Man United, Man City, Chelsea - Burnley don't score highly on that, either.Wexford_Claret wrote:Bournemouth average home attendance: 10,000

Lack of exposure probably doesn't hit us too badly on shirt sponsorship, because overseas the 3 pm Saturday games get shown as well. We're probably fairly well represented on those.

Understand your points but for an exile it would be hell if it wasn’t for illegal streaming to watch the Clarets.
