Kaiser the Conman

Post by JohnMac » Wed Jul 25, 2018 8:54 pm

Listening to TalkSport whilst travelling today and they interviewed a couple of people who have made a film about a Brazilian conman. He managed to pretend he was a professional footballer FOR YEARS! (edit, not 26 years).

Souness fell for one of those, much more short-lived - Ali Dia. Absolutely hilarious.

Looking forward to watching this. The player in question did it properly, he went from club to club building an amazing CV but never played a game. Luckily for him there was another Brazilian player at the time who was quite good and looked like him, so he had a bit of a crackly VHS showreel he would hand out and get a contract based on it.

He would then do anything to avoid playing, generally getting ‘injured’ in his first training session with a new club and being out for months. He would pay youth team players to put him in a heap by tackling him. In one game he was unfortunately named as a sub and he was going to have to go on. The manager signalled to him whilst he was warming up to come back and get ready to play. He realised he was in trouble so on his way back to the bench, he dived into the crowd and attacked some away fans, getting sent off before going on the pitch.

He kept it up for 20 odd years and became friends with proper footballers like Bebeto. If only half of it is true, it’s an incredible story

The Totally Football Show did a podcast about him this week. Well worth a listen.
