Help required about Burnley on Thursday

Post by Inter Loper » Tue Aug 14, 2018 3:10 pm

Hi All, I hope you don't mind me creating this thread. I've registered to get a bit of first hand Burnley knowledge for a magazine photo feature a friend of mine is doing at the Burnley/Istanbul BK game on Thursday. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Where are the best places to capture Burnley fans before games outside the ground (pubs/cafes/home end etc)?
2. Do you know if Istanbul BK have sold tickets for the game and if so, roughly how many were they allocated?
3. Any ideas where the away support might congregate that's 'away friendly' or an obvious place they would be before entering Turf Moor?

Thanks in advance and good luck on Thursday.
Mark.

1. Miners pub is always heaving, and usually just full of rounded, normal supporters ( no d1cks )
Behind the James Hargreaves stand will mean you have the most traffic for fans, as most fans will be in that stand, and many pass it to enter other stands.

2. They were allocated 2,400 , I doubt they've shifted many, if any, possibly 50?
I'd say any that do attend are possibly just local Turkish people/fans.

3. There's a beer tent near the away end for away fans, but doubt they'll be using it, and the away friendly pub is the cricket club next to the ground, however again I doubt they'll be many, if any using that.

1) On Brunshaw Rd/Harry Potts way, outside the main entrance to the Bob Lord stand. Fans coming down from both direction, the away turnstiles (cant see any away fans for this one) and plenty of Burnley FC related signage. It is where the TV camera usually get shots. Other than that pubs mentioned, Miners or Cricket Club
2)Can not see there being very many, 2400
3)There is a Turkish Kebab shop (recommend) on the corner of Brunshaw Road and Todmorden Road. Other than that the away turnstiles 150 yards away on the same road

Tell him not to take a picture of like the only cobbled street/Mill remaining in the town like every other program does to paint a picture that simply isn't true...

Thanks to all that have replied so far, the info will be invaluable.

The photographer is specifically there to capture the fans of both teams rather than the environment (dark Satanic Mills and all that) for a feature in The Football Pink fanzine (a small indy publication if you've not heard of it before. I'm the editor). The lady in question was a finalist on Sky Arts' Master of Photography programme earlier this year and is putting together some images for a small photo essay. Coincidentally, the next issue will also feature an article on Burnley and Brexit - something of a retort/counter to Jonathan Liew's article about the town in The Independent from a few months back.

The fan zone at the back of The James Hargreaves stand is the place to catch up with Burnley fans.

According to Phil Bird even Turkish journalists have struggled to get Visa's to come over, so don't know how many fans will come.

If you go on Twitter the official Burnley photographer's is called Fordy Four Eyes and Clive Lawrence they might be able to assist you.

Cricket club is always good. Especially when full with away fans.

Unfortunately there wont be any. Doubt theyve even sold one ticket. Most turks, including those at turkish best hate them.

The cricket club should still be decent although hardly aberdeen standards...

The 110 club is also a good place to go. Dave Burnley drinks here
The wall paintings in the Royal Dyche need to be included
The new memorial ground will be worth a look

If the fall in the Lira is anything to go off try the currency counter in ASDA for the Tukish fans buying dollars.
