Jimmy McIlroy funeral

Post by Bfc » Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:58 pm

The football club have announced it will be held inside the James Hargreaves stand, with only invited people being allowed. Why couldn't they have his service pitchside, to allow hundreds of people the opportunity to pay their respects at his funeral, from the upper James Hargreaves stand. Rather than have people lining Harry Potts Way.
It's probably going to need stewarding, but surely the club can afford to do that for someone so SPECIAL to Burnley FC and to us the supporters.

Wow, people can find anyway to criticise the club. I didn't realise he was property of Burnley Football Club. Maybe his family shouldn't been informed of that. Who are they to organise his funeral anyway?

The family's wishes should be paramount, first and foremost Jimmy was a father, grandfather etc. to his family ....

It gives the family privacy. There will be many public ways fans can show their admiration and respect over the coming days and weeks.

I'm sure we will be able to celebrate the great man. A funeral is a family event for those closest to him. You should respect and support their wishes in this, its not a matter for the Club at all. Or anyone else.

I will be at the Turf next Friday to pay my respects to a wonderful man and a wonderful footballer. How the family choose to hold the funeral, with our without the Football Club, is their decision.

There will be a lot of people wanting to attend. I suspect it will be a who’s who of football. It’s not a football match Whoever is there, I think is brilliant that the McIlroy family have chosen to hold it at the Turf.

Tomorrow night will be my first opportunity to pay my respects with the team wearing black arm bands. Next Friday will be incredibly emotional.

The most crass self centred op I have read.

A bit of an over-reaction, I think.

It seems to me that the Opening Poster has misunderstood, either through ignorance or the wording of the announcement, and thinks the funeral is being organised by the club. If that were the case he may have a valid point.

An unfortunate and somewhat disrespectful OP nonetheless.

Sorry but I'm not getting into an argument about this but when you get someone whining about another person's funeral service, especially this one, I'm not particularly comfortable with it.
I've nothing else to add.

I'm sorry for any hurt I may and controversy I have caused to anyone with my OP, which wasn't intentional.
It was as supporter old enough to have seen Mc play for many years and wanting to be given the opportunity to attend his funeral, to say a final farewell, that I made the suggestion. It appeared to me the Club were asking for people to contact V Simpson for details of the funeral to see if they would be considered to attend it. Sorry once again, as I would not wish tarnish the name of someone so revered by us all.

That the funeral service is at the ground is a wonderful tribute to our ultimate hero, both by his family and the club.

Football royalty will be in attendance, for sure.

It appears that as you say you have misunderstood the contact Veronica comment, that’s for former players

You can pay your respect with supporters on Harry Potts way. The people inside the stand will be his friends, family, former team mates and fellow professionals.
