Both Macclesfield and Bury are back in the High Court today facing their eternal winding-up orders - no one expects anything other than the can being kicked down the road again though - which is a sad indictment given the number of appearances made by both clubs - finite time limits need to be put on these things - the purgatory for creditors and fans must be close to intolerable

Cannot believe that Bury fans have accepted Benwell as Plan B for their club - everything about his record says "keep well clear" - there is a point where desperation becomes insanity

There were rumours flying about that Benwell wanted to move Alfreton Town to Bury so they could start higher up in the pyramid. No idea how much substance there is to it. The Pheonix club (very Peter Kay) have submitted an application to the counties for next season.

Out on dog walk this morning I bumped into a guy who I've known all my life, season ticket holder for years at Bury. He told me how the club losing its league status upset him and that he has lost the social aspect of going to the game and could possibly never see the people he sat and shared a pint with. Puts into perspective the shite that gets posted on here after losing to the likes of Everton, United and Villa. Never forget where you came from.

It's so true. There are people I see and communicate with only on a match day and I would lose that contact if there were no Burnley FC. We were nearly there once which means I can appreciate so much what we have now. The only thing that gets me down is the shite on here after a defeat.

Agree with you on that Tony. I really miss matchdays, the whole day. My outlook on following the clarets changed that day in May 87. I decided no matter what the result, just as long as 11 players turn out in Claret & Blue for Burnley, I’ll be happy. Of course this now gets me castigated as a “Happy Clapper” or “Uber Fan” or told to take off my “Claret tinted glasses”. I feel sorry for all those who think surviving in the Premier League is boring, because back then, and yes I’ll mention it, The Orient game was nearly, so nearly or Bury moment!! Long live our club, whichever division it is in, just so long as it’s there for our children and our children’s children. UTC.

I think a more accurate description would be " on the cusp of on the cusp of liquidation"

Dale has 21 days to produce some money, then the CVA gets reviewed & if withdrawn the creditors then have to take him to court again

I'm shocked, I tell,you, shocked !!

I just wish that at the next Court hearing, and I strongly suspect there will be one, the Judge insists on Steve Dale appearing and says some thing along the lines of ....

" Mr Dale, you and your Company have yet again called before the Court, having breached your undertakings given on previous appearances. Indeed, on the last occasion, on which you were granted a 6 month period, you offered your " personal guarantee " that the funds promised would be forthcoming. They have not. Neither the Court, nor the administrators of the CVA, have been afforded the courtesy of an explanation, or an application to extend the period given with good reason.

Your " personal guarantee " should now be regarded as worthless, and this Court would strongly advise anyone looking to do business with you, now, or in the future, to consider your conduct in this case, before believing you. Speaking personally, if you were to advise me it was midnight, I should be opening the curtains to ensure it was dark, and ringing the " speaking clock ", before accepting your word. "

article from Evening Standard:

A winding-up petition against Bury has been dismissed in the High Court.
Financially-stricken Bury, who were expelled from the Football League in August, faced liquidation over an unpaid £4,000 tax bill.
But the High Court was today on Wednesday today that the bill has now been paid.
The decision gives club, who were founded in 1885 and still exists despite not having a league to play in, a reprieve.

Bury lost their place in League One last year when a takeover bid from C and N Sporting Risk collapsed.
The club appeared to be on the brink of liquidation after a further prospective buyer ended their interest in October, but businessman Robert Benwell outlined his plan in December to 'bring football back to Bury'.

One of the options is to start the club again if it goes into liquidation. The Bury FC name could be retained and they could make an application to rejoin the English football pyramid next season.
A phoenix club named Bury AFC have also made plans to enter lower down the pyramid.

From David Conn:
Bury FC owner Steve Dale has defaulted on the CVA he agreed last summer, and the club is now almost certain to go into liquidation. Just two weeks ago Dale said he was "finalising saving the club through the CVA."

Didn't Frank Casper resign after we lost to Scarborough in late September 1991?
We then went on to win 9 on the bounce and the rest is, as they say, history as we won 23 drew 7 and lost 5 of the remaining 35 games.

Of course , but still a 7 league “ demotion” seems harsh .But as this is really nowt to do with the “ old” Bury I guess it’s a case of make do and rebuild .Hopefully smash through a few seasons

Not a demotion - a brand new team that have no direct legal connection to Bury FC - which technically is still a live club/business without a league to play in

I would hazard a guess that it will be Radcliffe as the Pheonix organisers arranged a Bury legends game which was played there. It was probably a chance to see if the ground could cope with a crowd of 2k +. They raised £14k from the match.

Next season Bury will have a local derby with Prestwich Heys and potentially an away trip to the Isle of Man. The counties have had an application from Isle of Man FC.

Things are not going 100% smoothly, but progress is being made in terms of setting up a new club.

Just as an aside on this, I read an article several years back now which said the local economy in Swansea benefited by £20 million a year from having a PL team. That figure is probably more now, but it shows how vital our PL status is not just to the club, but the town.

Brighton did a study last year that said Premier League football contributed over £200m to the local economy

https://www.brightonandhoveindependent. ... ost-953692

Liverpool did one the year before that said their Champions League alone contributed over £400m a season to the regional economy

British Tourism Authority did one last year saying that 1 in 8 tourist visits to the country involved football in it's itinerary - all of these have been on the MMT thread

suspect it is getting on for £100m in Burnley - that is an awful lot of jobs at our wage rates/living costs

Not sure what the league could have done to be honest but I have to admit having no faith in them at all. The link mentions the TV deal that was done behind the clubs backs. Shaun Harvey left a massive mess and that's what Dave Baldwin is walking into.

As for Bury, that's what can happen when the wrong people get control of a club. It's shameful.

Tony, we can only be unsure of what the report says at this moment, indeed we can only be unsure about how comprehensive the investigation was - this is because the EFL have chosen to manage the way the initial news on it's outcome rather than release the report immediately. Doubts are further raised as to EFL motives when you realise that the 2nd report on the EFL's own Governance procedures has also not been released, yet the EFL have already ratified decisions not to implement a number of key recommendations.

The company Steve Dale created to siphon of anything the club owned of value - particularly emotional value such as trophies etc - (Bury Heritage) has been served with a strike off notice

It's about £1,200 per head of population - why aren't we all getting free season tickets? ;)
