Walter Joyce there behind Mac and Jimmy Robson in the last photo.
Always felt sorry for Walter, 70 league appearances in 10 years at the club. Brilliant wing-half, he would have walked into any other First Division team during that time, but this was a very special Burnley team and Walter knew it.

Ray Hankin and Eric Probert, although don't see Eddie Cliff on the photo who featured a couple of times that season.
Also Dave Thomas who started the season, first 7 games I think, before he was sold to QPR.

Another slightly earlier team pic in the same shirts. Great to see shirts with no sponsor! I guess somewhere between 1969 and 1971.

Ralph Coates played in 38 of the 42 games the previous season and is not featured on there. Ralph left for Tottenham in May 1971. That said there are a few notable omissions from that photo, mainly Alan West, Harry Wilson and Eddie Cliff (again).
Fantastic to see John Angus on there, the only one remaining from the Champions side of 11 years earlier. In fact John arrived at the Turf as a junior in 1955 and his career here lasted some 17 years until he retired in 1972. What a magnificent servant to our Club John was.

Isn't this the Chelsea - Wolves game, 1976, featured this morning on 'The Big Match Revisited' on ITV4??
There was lots of space behind the goal...even a car parked in the middle of the space. This was ,of course, pre Stamford Bridge being totally refurbished.

Alan W Brown, what was Alan's middle name?
Probably place the season as 1956/57?

Cheers, never knew that.......Brown was a key player in our "Iron Curtain" defence which brought us success just after WW2 and then even more importantly as manager in the late '50's, albeit for a short period of time before Harry Potts arrived on the scene.

The chances of having a colour photo of Alan Brown are 10,000/1. You would think someone would have noticed that, particularly as the guy in the photo has a fairly modern hair style!

Dave Bayliff was a long standing mascot in the late 50s, early 60s. Unfortunately, he died two years ago aged 71.

Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Great team photo there, clansman.
Perhaps taken in the early part of the 1960/61 season when Trevor Meredith got a good run of games, in fact no John Connelly on the photo at all. We played an unbelievable 60 games that season and John played in 50 of those.
That semi-final was a horror day and we certainly deserved better than the scoreline suggests.

That's a great picture - Mirror Cards - 1971/72 - purchased through the Daily Mirror in packs of 10 as I remember - team pictures of all 92 FL clubs - 'cigarette card' sized in landscape. There was a wall chart to mount the cards on plus some extras - the home countries and pictures of various trophies.Polesworth wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 4:05 pmAnother slightly earlier team pic in the same shirts. You could get one 'my club' card which was a postcard sized picture of the smaller card - those were the days

Dave Mellington.....like that one.
In fact Merrington didn't play in that game, John Talbut was at centre-half.
Another game against Tottenham where we flattered to deceive, two Willie Irvine goals up in the first ten minutes I think and we still contrived to lose the game!

Seems to be some conjecture as to the colours worn by Burnley and Liverpool in that Final.
Let's clear that one up, we wore Claret & Blue and they wore red, even if there was a slight clash.
No doubt about the quality of the photo though, or the result as we won the FA Cup for the only time in our history with a cracking goal from Bert Freeman (of which there is a photo, but not in colour this time).

Also, just to add, I saw a remarkable photo the other day of rival captains on the day Tommy Boyle for us and Robert Ferguson for Liverpool being introduced to King George V before the game. It was the first time the reigning monarch had been present at football's most important day.

Interesting point you make there. We played Nottm. Forest at home twice in the same season a few years back. On the first occasion they wore black shirts, on the second time they wore red shirts. Personally, I found there to be no clash with the red shirts but it is very rare that opposition teams play in red at Turf Moor.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 10:10 pmSeems to be some conjecture as to the colours worn by Burnley and Liverpool in that Final.
