Dave Wilson is the one I would have struggled to identify. Seems he played just a handful of games for us that relegation season and a similar number the previous season. Some familiar faces missing though from that '70/''71 photo including Les Latcham, Arthur Bellamy, JIm Thomson, Geoff Nulty, Doug Collins and Paul Fletcher.

A rare photo of one of our managers scoring for us. OC v Glentoran 2008!
Bizarre that he used to play himself, and for the reserves too. He said it was so the young strikers could learn from him (as though he was some world class centre forward) but he was just taking up valuable game time for a young player so he could have a kick around.

I think it's a good way to coach, being on the field with the players during a game.

Though he does look like Dale Winton

Beyond bizarre. First time I saw it was in a reserve game at Fleetwood against Blackpool and he even had Steve Davis playing as well.

Wilson was one signing that you have to say never came off. He came from Walsall and I think we paid around £30k for him. He’d started at Forest and went to Chesterfield after leaving us.

According to The Clarets Collection 1882-2018 the fee was £12k

I've no idea where the first pic is taken but I think I can spot Ralph Coates, Colin Waldron, Eric Probert and Dave Thomas on it.

The second picture is Tommy and Joy Cummings. Tommy has been gone over 11 years now and Joy passed away about three years ago, lovely couple. I knew them really through Joy only because her mum was a really good friend of my grandma.

The third picture I've never seen before with the work underway to build up the Bee Hole End. What a superb photo that is.

That third photograph must have been taken in the summer of 1970.

Funnily enough I preferred it when the Bee Hole End sloped away towards Brunshaw Road. It was distinctive, and emphasised how high the terrace was where it joined the Longside.

Clarets1977’s picture of Tommy Cummings brought back great memories of Tommy, one of my very best favourite players in Claret. As a very young boy I idolised Tommy in the 1950’s when he was a pacy centre half and scored the best goal of the century against Newcastle. This idolisation grew from meeting him every morning on his way to the Turf. As I stood by the gate of our front garden on Brunshaw Rd. he always said hello to a young boy not old enough to go to school. Later I got to know him as he almost reached retirement and my idolisation was complete. A great servant for the Clarets.

CT, with obvious restrictions and Covid Secure requirement to the highest degree for the club, do you think there is an chance what so ever of the club allowing me to take photographs of the stand in the ground while off season? I used to get in via a nice member of the ticket office but I dont want to put them in a position that i shouldn't.

I very much doubt it is anything they would risk. Back in training, we could be playing on the Turf in a friendly any time.

I missed that game believe it or not. It was Good Friday 1964 and I was on a school trip.

But we had a regular mascot back then, same lad every game. Closest I ever got to bring the mascot was when I took my nephew for first game of the 1992/93 Swansea game.

I spotted Colin Bell(8) before Franny. I was with you in thinking Dave Thomas but on closer inspection it could be Stan. Then Arthur Bellamy next to either Colin Blant or, less likely, John Angus.
Further research shows we went into the all Claret in ‘69. Stan left in ‘68 so likely you are right with Dave Thomas.
Can’t find a pre-season friendly and we played a 1-1 draw on Jan 6th’70 but Probert and Blant didn’t play. A mystery.

Back in 1995 I went to the club to buy a ticket for the last match of the Longside. When the staff member found out I was a visitior from Australia he asked whether I would like to look around the ground. He took me inside and after a guided tour stood me on the centre spot and took a video of me gazing around at the stands. When my old dad saw the video he was amazed and quite emotional. He's long gone now, and one thought that always comes to mind when I watch matches these days is what would he think of the beautiful playing surface, still immaculate at the end of the season, and how he would compare it to the times when Tommy Danns and his team would spend the half-time break using their forks to replace divots in the, often, muddy pitch.

Tommy Danns, that's a name from the past. When pitch conditions were really bad with frost, he would be out all night trying to ensure we were able to keep it fit enough to play. He lived in the house where the club shop is now.

There were over 21,000 on that match. The capacity at that time was 23-24,000, that doesn't look like a 21,000 crowd.

And the bigger problem, having found some footage on YouTube, is that Wrexham played in yellow and green that day.
