R.I.P Tom, a Nelson lad who was a true Claret..

Detectives have charged a man with murder in relation to the death of Thomas Walker, 65 (pictured), from Nelson.

The 32-year-old from Nelson was charged last night (Sunday, May 24th) following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). He appeared before magistrates in Preston this morning (Monday, May 25th).

We were called at around 3:35pm on Friday (May 22nd) after Thomas Walker, known as Tom, was found with injuries at his address on Fir Street. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A subsequent post mortem examination revealed that he died as a result of stab wounds to his body and head injuries.

Tom’s family have paid the following tribute to him:

“Thomas was a quiet gentle soul without a bad bone in his body. He was passionate about Burnley Football Club and will always be a claret. He enjoyed playing darts, walking his dog and listening to his favourite band, Status Quo. Thomas didn’t deserve what happened and we, his family, are absolutely devastated that he has been snatched away from us in this way.”

Our thoughts continue to remain with Tom’s family and friends.

This is very sad. Tom used to regularly travel with Accy Clarets to away games, so it was a shock when I saw his photograph in the press and read of his murder. He was always polite and quiet, a very nice bloke.

Jesus, never new it was Tommy who had been killed, new him well we used to drink together years back, lovely lad very sad if it is his own son. RIP Tommy, you'll always be a Claret.

I worked him years ago, he was a nice bloke & not a troublemaker, RIP Tommy.

Recognise the gentlemen, sure he travelled with Colne Clarets many years ago.

Incredibly sad story, RIP Tommy

I recognised him for the first time tonight. I cannot even remember the context… the double denim reference above makes me think away match days, but have a feeling I also bumped into him away from football. My initial reaction, damned shame a really gentle man, as I remember. How sad. RIP

He was a good egg harmless enough I remember him working in colne in the 90s at JC, he certainly didn’t deserve the end he received

What a tragic loss of live for a fellow claret. It is clear from the newspaper report that Tommy was concerned about his son’s behaviour and mental health prior to his son killing him. So, so sad. Not helped either by the fact that his son was taking drugs, one of them supposed to be the drug of peace which is nonsense of course. RIP Tommy.

He worked atJohn Cottons? That will be where else I know him from, around 1993 I worked in the technical department after time in Laroche/Riverside.

Yes my memory of him. I was a regular with both Colne Clarets and Burnley SC away days at the time, hence my memory triggered with ‘double denim’ even before Cotton’s. Seemed a very gentle man.

On the granulator at green road, could have been automotive industries back then from press felts to Lear.

Yes, exactly the time I was there… I left rather than move to Coventry when Lear moved tech down there. Was only there a couple of years, it was a good department looking back. Tony Bedford was a doddle and not just because my dad was Raymond, poor sod having to work for Ramsey, no wonder Tommy always looked slightly sad.

The company relocated to Tipton (West Midlands) as I recall jaynesville & LBS moved into the riverside site, I know the names you’ve mentioned or should I say I remember them, I worked with a few from the technical side an Indian gentleman called Jitendra from Preston & Dave Macmasters I can’t remember where he lived, Martin speirs was 1 of the big hitters in charge when I was there.

I remember Jitendra, upstairs production in Green Road, lovely bloke; always had a dark blue smock. I worked on trimming the doors a couple of years earlier while a student and still have the knuckle scars from the debearers to prove it

Recognise the names of the others, and would no doubt recognise them… the blue coats tended to look down unless they were techs as word had got round I was a directors son. They didn’t realise my dad is the kind who believes in showing the lads “his son’ had done all the shittiest jobs… why are you better than my son?”

That’s not quite how I remember things but I’m certainly not going to go into it on a RIP thread.
