Birmingham City retire the number 22

Post by ClaretAndJew » Thu Jul 23, 2020 3:19 pm

Because of Jude Bellingham going to Dortmund, they have retired his number 22.

This is the weirdest thing I've ever heard.

Small-minded attitude from a club trying to look bigger than they are.

Do you remember when Gerry Creaney got 8 in 10 on loan in the waddle season? What number did he wear? Perhaps we should retire that

To be fair, it'd be deserved. In fact anyone scoring 8 in 10 in the Waddle season probably deserves a knighthood in all honesty.

Because the #22 Jersey is such a coveted number.

Wonder if theyd have done it if he was number 7 or number 10?

To me it's adding unneeded pressure to such a young footballer, also might it affect his ego - the club should be trying to keep him grounded. It might be a bit embarrassing if it doesn't work out for him at Dortmund though.

I saw Nick Powell on one of the televised games last week paying for Stoke, he had a lot of potential too... but can you imagine if Crewe retired his shirt number after his move to Manchester United? I'm not suggesting Powell has failed in his career but I don't think he has hit the heights that were expected from him back in 2012...

Perhaps they are saving shirt number 22 for when Bellingham returns homesick from Dortmund, having banked the cash!!

Chinese owner, number 2 is auspicious in Chinese culture, and 22 represents a double blessing. So not just any old ordinary b0llocks, it's superstitious b0llocks, too.

Jason Blake wanted to retire the #8 academy shirt when Callum Styles decided to go to Bury but our club wasn't having any of it.

Dont think Blake took it well on both counts and it was one of the main reasons he decided to leave the club

I see he's playing the 2nd half, fully justifying this shirt retirement.

Surely Blake’s 7.

Is it because it’s a higher number than they have fingers and toes - must make it tricky

In that case Burnley's #22 shirt must be as safe as houses

Make that an MBE for all Burnley fans who "experienced" Waddle's management skills.

What number does Lukas Jutkiewicz have?

For that matter, what number did he have at Burnley? ;)
