Had Mee been fit from the start I suspect we'd have had another 4-5 points from the first six matches rather than just one and we would have been in a more stable mid table position.
And had Rob Jones not been the Ref against Leeds, we'd have had one more point on the board.

Still looking like the same 3 from 5

With the plight of Sheffield United, and their up and coming fixtures, already decided, it's looking like 2 from 4 with Sheffield booking their tickets to Blackburn for next season.

Personally, I think we'll be fine and should make 24 points by the halfway stage.

half way through and enough points left to pick up for great escapes, but we look very poor.
probably more pessimistic considering who we have to play next in the aftermath of the display yesterday. Let's hope the Americans do a deal to bring in Messi and Ronaldo to get us over the line.

Of those 8 teams Newcastle and Wolves are on the worst recent form, but they do have a reasonable buffer, and despite all the negativity we're still averaging slightly better than a point a game over the past 5, Brighton & West Brom winning has given everybody a start, I don't think we expected both of them to notch away wins this weekend, but there'll be plenty more twists and turns before the season is out.

I think Leeds and Wolves will both have enough to pull clear, however if I was a Newcastle fan I'd be worried, they're plummeting like a stone, and the noises emanating from the club aren't great, mind you I guess many would say the same about us. Except the fact that we're on an upward curve by and large, and even with our recent setbacks, we're still averaging roughly a point a game over the season, if we can get 36-38 points that should be enough, because I'll be surprised if 3 of those teams reach that figure, that would require a huge uplift by West Brom & fulham in particular, possible yes probable no.

Sheff Utd apart who have a horror set of upcoming fixtures, the rest are beginning to bunch up, and if any teams can put 2/3 wins together, they have a great chance of jumping several spots up the league.

It will be interesting to see how West Brom get on at West Ham tonight, especially after our performance there at the weekend.

If they get another couple of cheap penalties they could be in.

Interesting over last 6 games, although you have to take into account the calibre of opponent each team plays

Thurs is one of our games in hand therefore a loss (as expected) means we drop down to 6 points from 6 games (Fulham at home to Man Utd is their game in hand on Weds)

Still enough to overtake Newcastle but only just, and still very close with Brighton and Fulham

It looks likely to be between the current bottom six - we would have to win over two games more than Palace which, based on season so far looks a tough ask

The big difference between us and the other teams down there is we're on a decent long-term run of form.

After 6 games we had 1 point.

After 18 games we have 19 points.

So the last 12 games comprises of 5 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats, and 18 points collected, that form over the course of a season would net roughly 56/57 points, now I don't expect us to reach those heights, but we should be comfortably in mid-table again, and given the present form of the bottom 3 I honestly can't see all 3 of those teams reaching 35 points, indeed they could well struggle to break the 30 point mark without a major upturn in fortunes.

As usual...we win when not expected occasionally and sometimes don’t win when expected....and repeat ad infinitum

3 from 6 or 7 and that still must include us too.
Yes we've picked up since the first 7 games but there's still 19/20 games to go
and a few injuries and we could still end up in the mix.
I expect Newcastle to improve once they get a few of the players back
and although not winning many at present both Brighton and Fulham have been
playing reasonably well and could get a few wins to hoist them up the table.

Our home games against Brighton, Fulham, West Brom and Newcastle
will be critical towards us staying up.
Win 2 or 3 of those and we should be ok. Lose 2 or 3 and we'll be back in the mix.

Hopefully the win against Liverpool will give us the boost we need and
we'll prove difficult to beat. Hopefully our strikers will start scoring a few too.
And most importantly we don't get any major injuries to key players.

Another 4 or 5 wins and a few draws should suffice.
Either that or match/better what Fulham or West Brom manage.

Wonder if it's happened before that after so many games a team has almost twice as many points as goals scored?

It'd be great to survive (now fairly easily) by getting a few more 1-0 wins.

I would say there's only the Blades a goner at the moment, the other two are far from doomed.

There's no worries for us if ...if...we keep putting in displays like at Anfield.

Agreed. People’s predictions change by the week, so fickle. Only a week or so ago apparently Newcastle weren’t even in the mix. I’ve seen comments that we’re as good as gone. Apparently Fulham now are looking really good but the table doesn’t agree. West Brom are down but only 6 points from safety with half a season to play.

Sheffield United aside, there’s a number of teams in the mix including us. I’m confident that we won’t be one of the final three as we’ve been there and done that. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the current bottom three drop but it’s not a given.

Just did a quick comparison of the points total of the team in 3rd from bottom after 20 matches along with the points the team in the last relegation place got at the end of the season.

Fulham are on 14 points so it looks like 33/34 points could be enough to secure survival. Certainly won't be more than 36. So we need 14 points from our remaining games (four wins, two draws)

Ironically we were on 15 points two seasons ago.

19/20 18 34
18/19 15 34
17/18 17 33
16/17 15 34
15/16 17 37

3 from 7 now although I'm including both Newcastle and Wolves
although I don't believe either of them will drop too close to the bottom three.

I would still include Brighton especially if we beat them and I do think
both Fulham and West Brom will improve.

Our home games against Brighton, West Brom, Fulham and Newcastle
will I feel go a long way to deciding whether we stay clear.
If we can manage 6 or more points from those then we'll be ok - I think.
If we can only get 2 or 3 points from those then we'll still be in danger.

The sooner we get to 30 points the better and the more relaxed I'd feel.

I've added the teams that were outside the relegation zone after 20 matches but ultimately got relegated, along with the points gap at the time.

In addition to those four games we have very winnable matches away to Fulham, Sheff United, Wolves and Palace along with the home game to Leeds.

If we can't manage 3/4 wins from our remaining 18 games, then we'll deserve to go down, but we've repeatedly shown we're more than capable of picking up points against the teams around us, it's been the bedrock of our constant survival in this league, and I've not seen anything this season to suggest the bottom 3 will pull back that points gap, If any of them manage to survive from here then good luck to them.

The most important thing is the gap to the bottom 3, and as they've all been dire, it might only need 35-37 points to survive, it may not even be that high, but I'm assuming at least one of the current bottom 3 will put a run together sometime, although we're already past halfway, and none of them are showing much sign of it thus far.

I treat this very simply, and I ask myself would you rather be in Burnley's shoes at this stage of the season, or Fulham, West Brom & Sheff Utd's shoes, I know which camp I'd rather be in, points on the board are gold dust in these circumstances, and all the pressure is on those teams to make something happen, and make it happen quickly, hence why West Brom in particular have been active on TDD.

Not if it's a draw it's not. I genuinely think both us and Brighton will be fine, we've both started picking up wins in the last few games, and unless the bottom 3 start really stirring themselves, it's hard to see any of them mounting an escape act.

Was on the other thread, but might be appropriate in here:

We've just come through an horrendous run, playing Man U, West Ham, Liverpool, Villa, Chelsea & Man City and managed to average a point per game out of that lot.

In addition, we've increased the gap between us and the bottom three from five to eight points.

I’d have bitten your hand off for six points from that run. We’ve had a few crap performances in and amongst but the return is fantastic.

Thankfully, Fulham can't buy a win at present and an eight point cushion is good and 22 points from 21 games should be enough at this stage. West Brom's goal difference is as good as a point for those around.

Not sure how you think Newcastle are less likely to be relegated than we are.

Watched more of the Fulham game than ours tonight and they still look toothless up front
We do as well, but we have the points in the bag
Still think Newcastle are in the mire as well
Win our games against the others in the bottom 6 and we are more than safe (4 wins may be enough)
Has the home game against Fulham been sorted out - can't see it on any list
