Steady on, you'll be having the unhappy clappers accusing you of being an happy clapper. :D
I wouldn't say I'm a happy clapper, whatever that's supposed to even mean, I'm merely highlighting the current caution amongst nearly every club at all levels, clearly this is due to the uncertainty around future revenues, and clubs everywhere are tightening their belts.

Let's be honest if Liverpool didn't have a central defensive shortage do you really think they'd be buying that Davies kid from Preston, Klopp admitted as much yesterday.

I've noticed just browsing through the completed deals, there's very few that involve a transfer fee, most are loans, or swap deals, and this shouldn't be surprisingly, most clubs are holding fire, and waiting to see what the summer brings, if income streams are still impacted, then we may well see a quiet window in the summer also, perhaps football is finally having to face up to financial reality, after far too many years living in a bubble. And that would be no bad thing.

They might have signed 5 players, but all I've read on the Beeb transfer talk was how these players aren't good enough to save them from the drop.

And I suspect they may well be proven correct. The problem for West Brom is all these new signings need to click from day one, and that's asking a lot for any side.

Genuine question do you think West Brom will stay up, because I don't, new signings or not.

Isn’t the point being made that it’s possible to sign players as opposed to which signings WBA has made?

I’d have them to go down. It wouldn’t surprise me if that fat old slug kept them up though - he’s certainly got a good record when it comes to that.

But Covid has impacted in more ways than one, the most obvious being the way that the clubs have been hit so hard financially.
That’s what irks me most about some fans on here and the way Dyche was in all his interviews in the middle of last year.

As we’re all too well aware, the virus has been here since March. Maybe, just maybe, Garlick was taking this into account during the last window and knew we couldn’t be blowing millions in the market for fear of the pandemic continuing well into 2021 and the impacts it will continue to have.

There’s no ‘maybes’ re. Garlick taking Covid
into account and affecting the clubs’ income.
I’m pretty sure he said the club would be bankrupt and lose 50m if we dIdn’t return this season. Well, that picture may not have transpired but we have no doubt lost considerable millions. Maybe not as much as some clubs who have much more money than us coming in from match day receipts but nevertheless a significant amount.
We’ve always been a prudent club and the
‘new boys on the block’ are no different.
The difference is that they have borrowed money to buy the club and are more than likely paying themselves handsome salaries for running the club in addition to having to pay the interest on the loan.
They haven’t got millions/billions stashed away
but no doubt hope they can raise the money coming in by a large amount.
We’ll never be a Man United but they must know that being/staying in the Premiership is paramount given the amount it brings in.
Yes Pace has said he will back Dyche and have made bids for a couple of players but aren’t going to ‘break the bank’ or go the extra mile and loosen the strings. That’s clear.
That’s the way it is and will be.

I know people's views on them wanting some sort of permanent signings, but I'd have liked to have seen some sort of back up, possibly a couple of decent loans so we wouldn't be stumping up the full fee.
I think Maitland-Niles will turn out to be an excellent signing for WBA.
I'd also be interested to see how the two lads from MLS fare at Swansea. Jordan Morris has blistering pace and an eye for a goal, and Paul Arriola is a tricky hard working midfielder who likes to arrive in the box late

Loans to back up a thin squad would of been better than nothing, also not bringing in one single player to improve the squad over the last six transfer windows (covid excuses for one what about the other five) is absolutely beyond belief, it will eventually kick our ass because we've been riding our luck for three year's and it won't continue, name me another club in the premier league who's not signed a first team player in three year's.

Can't imagine any team keen to loan us players. The idea of the loan is to get the player experience - Dyche likes his solid foundations, core of the team etc. No way he's giving much worthwhile playtime to someone who's only here half a season.

Did anyone really expect us to sign anybody? I think that barring injuries, we should survive this season, just. However, another dud window will surely see us return to the lower leagues. Some might say we would deserve that, as it probably is our rightful place for a town our size. Anyway, at least we have City to look forward to on Wednesday. I may read a book instead.

How can we be expected to compete at this level when we don't invest in first team ready players. Its like we get to Xmas see if we are gonna be safe, and write the rest of the season off if we are.Rigg must have the easiest job in football, what has he contributed to the club.I could do his job, recommend a player,we can't afford him, move on.Its ******* boring, same old excuses every season.

I can name you nine Premier League clubs who have made signings in the last three years and all been relegated.

Surely there's a right winger about, who can defend ,pass the ball backwards ,and has no pace.Even if they can beat a full back, this will quickly be removed from there game.Is Kevin Ellison available he's the right age group.😁

Probably none of them, which is an indictment in itself. Minamino may have chosen us as he wouldn’t have to move house

Don’t think Burnley fans have very high expectations. One player to improve the first team would have satisfied most fans and shown some positive intention by the new owners. It’s hard to believe there isn’t a right sided player in the world that we can source, afford and who would improve the team.

Josh Brownhill has played in our first team? Hopefully he will develop into a valuable first team regular. We do need more players though . I think at one stage a few years back we had virtually a full first XI plus another 2nd XI that could cover all positions. Difficult circumstances. Other clubs just throw so much money at the problem and TBF waste a lot of it. Players, managers and agents take most of the extra revenue that has come in to the clubs from TV.

Likewise it's hard to believe there's not a decent centre half in the world Liverpool couldn't sign. So they brought in a Championship defender who was about to go to the Scottish league and a defender from a team bottom of the Bundesliga.
Clubs are reluctant to let players go and players are reluctant to go due to the current situation we all find ourselves in.

There was £50m in the bank before Mr Pace took over

Even Dynamo couldn't have made that money disappear so fast !

Old Mikey G not looking so bad now is he?
Crying? Absolutely not.

Ha ha ha, and you do realise its Mike that put us in this mess dont you?
Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees

There was 55m in the BFC bank FIFTY FIVE MILLION

Mike knew it, Dyche knew it, even some of the thick, bed wetters and crying fans knew it.
No wonder Dyche was frustrated.

We have spent 9m ( absolute tops ) in the last 3 windows, brought the same in, if not more.
We are a premier league outfit who hasnt improved the starting 11 in 3 seasons and have championship clubs spending more than us improving their teams...

They call it fattening the goose.

But it's ok blame the new American guy who has had 30 days in the job, half if them stuck inside isolating and who is yet to even meet the manager...

But would you be sleeping better in a weeks time if Tarks/Mee got injured after we had brought in a couple of players in different positions that everyone was happy with? You’d have got the signings you wanted but had the problem you didn’t want.
And you don’t need to tell me about your unswerving pessimism ( blind man on galloping horse et al ).
Well yes, I wasn't one who simply wanted signings for signings sake or was happy with us paying way over the odds just to "make a statement". When I said "considered signings" I was suggesting back up in key positions in case of injuries i.e. central defence where imo the current back up is just not up to it and that was made clear in the early part of the season. Plus possibly another striking option because although we essentially already have 4 options, we're simply not scoring enough goals and that desperately needs a boost.

Its nearly announcement time.

I'm not sure which would be better

Season tickets going up £100, or seeing if those against ALK are as delighted as they were when Mike used to spend nowt, but win fans around by freezing season ticket prices AGAIN as though it was some massive gesture.

Anyway to coin another phrase

Exciting times

I can name you plenty of clubs that threw money about having a go and got relegated. We were very lucky against Wolves and Sheff Utd, oh and Palace. We completely ‘ragged’ those games.

We didn't sign anyone because a) we don't have the money for transfers b) there was no one available that we could pay the wages to and c) we don't really need anyone.

I hope that clears things up for some people.

Don’t think Burnley fans have very high expectations. One player to improve the first team would have satisfied most fans and shown some positive intention by the new owners. It’s hard to believe there isn’t a right sided player in the world that we can source, afford and who would improve the team.
This is the thing that saddens me most mate. We're a pretty easy bunch to please; no illusions of grandeur or sense of entitlement at all, yet we continually get let down by those at the top of our club (Dyche and players aside, who are outstanding and do their best to counter-balance the ineptitude elsewhere).

For example, Eliasson and Samuel went for very low fee's in the last two windows. I dare say neither are top prem quality, as evidenced by lack of interest elsewhere, but both were decent Championship quality and had attributes we lack on our right side (to deliver great balls/run at and commit players respectively). I'd have taken them and I'd have backed Dyche to turn them in to players. Maybe he didn't want them, I'm just using them as examples of players who have transferred and might've helped improve our overall squad.

Some will point to the lack of activity elsewhere as a justification. That's fair enough. I dare say it has been the hardest window in decades. But the problem isn't this window, it's the previous 3, 4, 5. By under-performing in one window, you push a problem to the next. It increases pressure. Presumably other clubs know it and it becomes harder and harder, further and further compounding the problem.

And now it turns out that all that time we were building up cash to pay out the previous owners instead of investing in the team. Sickening, really.

I’m not sure I’d include Maja. Big step up for him to perform at PL level.

King would have brought options and some pace.

I have, there's some interesting points from both sides of the fence. The way i see it is that simply put, the club is in a worse financial position than it was 2 months ago. And we couldn't afford any players then.

I'm financially risk-averse, so that's obviously informing my opinion but I think the club has gone down the wrong path with the new investment. For me it's another thing on the list of things that's making me lose interest with football as a whole.

Apparently, our last bid for Collins was one of the biggest made by any Premier league club. Puts into perspective how much money was being spent..... We could have been the biggest spenders

Could have, Should have, Would have...we hear it window after window. Bottom line is we spent nothing, again. Reading the financial goings on between the old board and our new owners that are now emerging, it now at least makes some sense.

I am going to be cynical here. Its a possibility we knew what would swing it, then decided to go sufficiently lower for Stoke still to say no, at the same time prioritising the extension of contracts of four players, to take focus off a shocking window

Would you expect to get a house for 75k when it's up for sale at 100k?

Its always looks good to be seen to be doing the right things, even if you know it's not a chance if happening, the old board were masters of the disguise

Remember us "bidding 20m" for a player yet moths later we had no money.

Bidding is the easy bit.

I do get your frustration but where does all this start and end. Yes there are certain key players more difficult to cover with the same quality . Eg would Peacock Farrell do the job Pope is doing. Or would he do the type of job Long does when Mee/Tarkowski are absent?
It depends which way you look at it. There have been times this season young players have had to come in to the midfield and forward line . Should we buy players so we don’t have to bring in these young players. Full back seems to be the only position we have experienced PL full cover.
I think some people are being unrealistic and while I don’t think you would expect the club to have bought in players to cover each key position all over the field my point is
that you can fill one gap but not all the gaps in one window.
