Pop Master
It was the final this morning. Nearly 500 contestants took part this year and I always try to listen and answer as many as I can. However, I felt the final was an anti- climax as Ken Bruce seemed to race through the questions as though he had an appointment to keep. Shorter clips of music and less time to answer the questions just seemed to devalue the whole thing. Then again perhaps it's just an age thing. Merry Christmas everyone.

Re: Pop Master
It's a great competition, and i try to listen every day i can. I suppose the final has to be rushed a little to put the finalists under a little pressure, and to reduce the chances of any `underhand` shenanigans. Doesn't take long to google these days.

Re: Pop Master
In addition to Xmas & what else is happening in the wider world mainly the barred C word & B word, talks were continuing all last night to lift the impasse so I believe.

Last week our kitchen fitting came to a halt for 15 minutes at 10.30 while Pop Master on .

Re: Pop Master
All the Popmaster 'champions league' questions have similarly been quickfire

Some incredible answers from the eventual winner although I did get one right that he didn't know which was 'The Caravelles' which just goes to underline my advancing years.

Re: Pop Master
Yes the final wasn't really a contest. However Ken Bruce used a nice turn of phrase when he said the final Champions League was devised to separate the 'goat from the sheep'.

Re: Pop Master
The guy who won had a 20 point head start so it was never going to be a close run thing. I managed to get on back in the summer and had a disaster of a round, scoring 12. I rarely score less than 20 listening to the podcast but it's different when you are live on national radio. I got 1 correct in each round this morning, guess the year each time.

Nice to hear Ken play out with, 'Santa's A Scotsman' today.

I remember listening to you Herts willing you on. But I think you might have missed the first question which is usually a 'gimme' and it seemed to throw you from then on. Just wondering if you are anywhere near St. Alban's as I have friends who live there.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 2:36 pmThe guy who won had a 20 point head start so it was never going to be a close run thing. Re: Pop Master
So obvious when google gets used. Long pause seemingly without a clue, followed by complex obscure answer which they would have said immediately if they actually knew it.

Must agree I've noticed that too. Answers literally found out of thin air.Stanbill05 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 3:04 pmSo obvious when google gets used. Long pause seemingly without a clue, followed by complex obscure answer which they would have said immediately if they actually knew it.

Re: Pop Master
First question was about a George Michael cover. I got it in my head it was Somebody to Love by Queen then he said Elton John. Obviously it was Don't let the sun go down on me but I had gone blank. So many people said you got really difficult questions but they are only easy when you know the answer. I am nearer Letchworth than St Albans though I did live there for a year about 2001 and there was a Burnley fan near me. Identified himself when I was unloading stuff and I had a Jimmy Mullens C&B army t shirt on.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 3:04 pmI remember listening to you Herts willing you on. Re: Pop Master
I'm rubbish anyway but the questions this week for those trying to get to the final have been so hard, although I suppose they are meant to be, just to add for those contestants that gave the right answer I was still none the wiser.
