Robbie Blake scored the first one that mattered

Yep but who scored the second premier league goal ?
And for an extra bonus point what was he also “famous for” as being the no 1 in the premier league at the time ?

I imagine a lot of us knew it. It's one that sometimes gets asked in quizzes.

One of the easiest question you can ask, especially if you are aged over 35

Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
lol my knowledge is truly awful then. I only found he was the first scorer when looking for his record against Burnley. I'm sure one night on turf he scored 4 or 5. That winger Franz Carr scored to, I think it was him, might be mistaken
Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
Ha, Brian Deane. Pele scored over 100 PL goes before the PL even existed.

Was it the ex-postie who was football's quickest player - John Williams?
Didn't Super Johnnie Francis make the final of the race that Williams won - or am I just remembering this with rose tinted glasses?!

It's pub/lockdown quiz standard that question so perfectly understandable that some people knew immediately.

Brian Deane for Sheff Utd, some of us even watched the first ever game in the newly formed League
Edit
He scored the second goal as well and at the end of the game had twice as many goals as anyone else in the Premiership.

Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
It was the FA cup replay in about 93 - we'd drawn 2-2 at Bramall Lane - one of my first away games - i think Inchy scored twice before they pulled it back late on - they were PL at the time and we were L1 as it is now.Untinted Glasses wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 5:59 pmlol my knowledge is truly awful then. Deane didn't play but was back for the replay which was an evening kick off - my parents wouldn't let me go to the replay as it was a school night but it didn't matter in the end as Deane was back in the side and scored 2 or 3 i think!

Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
Yes, I went to both games. The first game at Sheffield was lucky to be on because it was extremely cold and the pitch was really frozen, but about 8,000 clarets due to turn up probably swayed the decision. It was a brilliant atmosphere and we SHOULD have won tbh because as said we were 2-0 up in the first half through an Inchy double and I THINK they cleared off the line in the second half or we missed a sitter or something, but they came back and leveled with 2 really late goals. Then Deane was back for the replay at The Turf and got a hat trick, even though Inchy actually scored first for us.Selby Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:08 pmIt was the FA cup replay in about 93 - we'd drawn 2-2 at Bramall Lane - one of my first away games - i think Inchy scored twice before they pulled it back late on - they were PL at the time and we were L1 as it is now.

Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
Thought Deane came on as a sub in the first game. I've never understood how the game went ahead because the ground was 'rock hard' when we arrived around 11am and parked up close to the ground. It was never going to get any 'warmer'.

Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
I’m pretty sure that your Burnley connections for this game were:
Jack Cork’s father, Alan, partnered Brian Deane upfront.
Micky Phelan was a sub for Manchester United.
Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
I’m pretty sure the game was Forest v Liverpool. I’ll go for Ian Woan.alboclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 8:51 pmAnother easy one....

Re: Without Looking Who Scored The...
Inchy was immense in those 2 games, and he really didn't deserve to be on the losing side. How we threw the 1st game away heaven knows, and yes in the replay we couldn't handle Deane and he destroyed us.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:19 pmYes, I went to both games.
