Woan and Grealish

Post by TomtheClaret » Thu Jan 28, 2021 4:06 pm

Saw a bit of verbal handbags at the end. But a Villa fan, saying had to be separated in tunnel.
Bunch of prima donners on the site, banned me when I suggested it was down to Grealish diving!

My guess is that Ian Woan was amazed by some of the antics of Grealish on the pitch and some of his comments after the final whistle. Ian seemed bemused and went off shaking his head. Not sure about the tunnel bit, I thought these days teams have separate tunnels....

I thought same about tunnel. They made Grealish out to be a hero who wanted to "Have it out" with Woan. Looked like Grealish pushed Westwood over in closing stages.

Considering he does 30 plus rolls when he is clipped around the legs makes you wonder how he would be getting a crack on his jaw

It looked to me like Grealish was vehemently denying being a diva, a cheat and a complete wuss.
Which is odd so well done, Mr. Woan.

Falling over and rolling around looks great on camera, especially when you've got a pair of tantastic legs to show off.

As much as I don't like Grealish, I don't think he did much wrong yesterday. One bit of show boating in the first half when they were one-mile up perhaps.

Maybe Woan just told him he's a **** Dwight McNeil.

Cultured midfielder was Woan at Forest. As you'd expect, Clough wouldn't have stood for Grealish's antics and was probably pointing out there's no need for it.

If you're going to be arrogant you need to be careful how you do it.

After you've won is usually best. Grealish had a paddy at full time because his arrogance was premature and came back to bite him on his backside.

I thought we saw the best and worst of Grealish last night.

He was unplayable at times. Absolutely fantastic.

However .... it’s all about him. He often stands still demanding the ball, rarely runs into space, he plays where he wants and only really passes the ball when there is a 1-2 on. At 3-2 down he hogged the ball completely, dropping deeper and deeper to pick it up.

All the ability. Not a team player at all.

Best thing about watching Grealish last night was seeing that inane grin (he kept flashing after his theatric falls etc) wiped of his smug gob at full time.

Fantastic footballer who like others does not need to fall over at the merest hint ... he would get far more respect if he did more of the blistering runs with the ball at his feet ... instead of falling over like a soft nelly 🤣

The lads a moron. He’s also one of the best players in the premier IMO. I love watching him play unless it’s against us. Southgate should be building a team around him.

Very easy to dislike especially the buying fouls, but what a player. Whether he ever reaches his full potential I’m not sure, but is not a million miles away from Ronaldo levels on his day

Reminds me of Ted McMinn, when he played for Derby, against us. I/we disliked his theatrical falls, when he was hardly touched and got up the noses of supporters. Yet when he signed for us, we loved it, especially at Wembley v Stockport.
Somehow I can't ever imagine Grealish wanting to sign for Burnley, later in his career.

Grealish is blessed with amazing talent, it’s a massive shame that’s he’s such a **** on and off the pitch.

I’m not even sorry for the superlatives as he angers me every time I look at him.

He walked off the pitch without acknowledging any of our players and saying we were sh*t on that occasion didn’t he?

I expect he was making similar comments on the field last night, and probably why Lowton was prodding him and shaking his head.

Poor Jack. He has played against us 6 times now and only been on the winning side once and that was on 1 January 2020.
Good player but not as good as our team ethic when it comes to getting results.

I don't think he's that good, he's just of a time. In 50 years time, Aston Villa may acknowledge him in the 50 best players to play for them this century, but he wouldn't feature in the leagues list.

From article above:

“ Ollie Watkins and Grealish had both seen goals cancelled out by Ben Mee and Dwight McNeil before Wood stooped to head home past Emiliano Martinez with 11 minutes left to play.”

What definition of stooped is this so called journalist using?

Grealish is good but it’s a bit far fetched to say he’s better than Raheem Sterling, who has performed consistently at the very highest level for years now.

Grealish was very good yesterday and has impressed me.

However, hf doesn’t seem to like us, as he was also cursing after their home game.

I wouldn’t hold it against him though, even if he had some words with Woan after the game. He’s a Villa player after all and it shows he’s a winner.

I still remember being proud of our hero Wade Elliot after ignoring the lying Scotsman after the game at Notlob 😊👍

Grealish is the best ball carrier, box to box, that I've ever seen in the English game.

Oh he’s better than sterling, and no mistake. He’s a real talent. With him and foden coming thru at the same time, the national side, if managed well, could be really really good. That’s the problem tho... he won’t be and he isn’t now, which is why he isnt quite the finished article. Could be an absolute great of the game. He’s really good.

Huge talent and if he came through the ranks at Burnley and acted like he does there would be a lot of “real” claret tinted glasses.

However (!) he shows very little respect, he walks on pitches like TM and thinks he is a better person than our club. I’d like to see how he copes in a big club where there are few other egos

Dwight McNeil, I think you'll find.

As good as Grealish is, he bears a lot of responsibility for their failure to beat us. You can't be the "best player in the Prem" if you're only inspiring your team to defeats.

He kept the ball far too long when they were searching for an equaliser and his positional play and tracking back was poor.

Fantastic player.I never liked him because of his persona but changed my mind when he came to Turf Moor last season.
This season he's got even better and at times has been completely unplayable.
The way he plays is very unique and with the talent he has,he's every right to be arrogant ON the pitch.

He is good to watch.

I don’t quite see it like that at this moment in time.

He was good in parts last season and has been very good for a lot of this season but he’s still playing the proverbial ‘big fish in a little pond’ act. Move to a title challenging club and consistently be one of their best players (ala Sterling) and I might change my mind. Hugely talented? No doubt. World class? Jury’s still out.

There’s only 9 month’s difference in age between Sterling and Grealish. Consider their respective CVs - Sterling’s - youngest ever Liverpool debut, world record transfer fee for a teenager, has won every domestic trophy and has been a pivotal player for a number of seasons of that record breaking team, a regular international footballer and one of the first names on the team sheet for club and country.

Grealish - Aston Villa captain, has had one and a half good seasons in the top flight (over half a season with no fans in attendance) and looks really good when he plays against us. Not yet an established international.

By your logic Pope, Tarks, Mee etc. Can only prove to be worthy of being world class if they leave Burnley. I disagree, if they are the right players, it matters not a jot if they are at bigger clubs. They get picked and prove it for their country that is the point. Trevor Brooking was world class playing second division for West Ham. No one doubted it or him.

I think a goalkeeper can prove themselves worthy of being world class at a club like ours (FWIW, Nick Pope is world class).

Grealish should cut out all his arrogant smirking and chuckling, as though he's better than averyone else. Maybe he is but all that facial stuff is out of order.
