Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
That is really sad news but best to get the operation done asap whilst he is still young and fitter than most .
Hope the operation is a success and he is back into football soon in whatever role.
Always thought Kevin never realised his full potential while a Claret.

You just don't think a professional footballer is likely to be going through something like this.
He's certainly making the right decision to get things done as soon as possible.

Such promising talent when he joined us. Graceful. stylish and could pick a pass. A pity he didn't stay with us but my Sheff Utd. supporting mate idolised him when with them. Good luck to him in the near future and for a healthy, less stressful time after that.

Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
Kevin McDonald was just interviewed on the Today programme on Radio 4 about his upcoming transplant. Spoke very articulately about it all. Sounds like his brother will be donating one of his kidneys to him.

Yes spoke well on the radio, balanced and says it was a family decision. His brother is the donor, no greater love!
Good luck to both of them.

Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
Interesting interview and good on him pursing what ended up a reasonable career knowing his kidneys would eventually fail . He’ll have brilliant chance of a long healthy coaching career with his brother donating ( great tissue match etc) and you can only wish him well

One of my favourite Burnley players over the years,in the Adrian Randall mould. Such great ability but unfortunately never reached his true potential because of outside football reasons.
I wish him all the best with his operation and back on the road to recovery soon.

Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
He was on the Adrian Chiles programme on Radio 5 last week on Thursday or Friday morning speaking about all of this at some length. Very interesting. The problem was first identified when he was at Burnley interestingly but has now reached the point where a transplant, via his brother, is needed. A good interview with one odd feature being he appeared to use the "Royal we" a lot when talking about himself.

Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
I listened to Kev McDonald on R4 this morning. Spoke well on his situation. I wish him all the best and a successful outcome.
I know someone who's brother had a kidney transplant from one of his sisters, a couple of years back. From what I learnt, it's not certain that Kev McD's brother can be the donor - tests are still required to confirm this. Kev McD spoke about these tests still not having been done. The person I know wasn't able to be a donor, but the brother was lucky that another sister was able to do it. It can be difficult for both the kidney recipient and the donor to make good recoveries.
Good luck.

Good luck to the lad, he has had little lately.
Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
I wish the lad all the good luck possible.
Big Kev Kidney Transplant
Big Kevin Mcdonald had been struggling for years with a dodgy kidney. Was interviewed on Radio 5 by that WBA fan, some time ago, when seeking a doner.
On today again. Brother Fraser donated kidney. All well and Big Kevin hopes to be able to play again, in the future.
A good story with positive outcomes. Good banter between the brothers.

Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
Good news for the lad, I was always sad that he seemed to lose his way here, even with the half time trip to the pub.
He looked quality at such a young age, and I thought he would have achieved more. It just shows you never really know someone unless you can walk in their shoes.
Good Luck Kev.

Great talent but just like Aidy Randell not adverse to the odd visit to a pub
The game v Arsenal in the cup when he scored twice to dump them out was a particularl highlight

Yes that Arsenal game will live long in the memory, and purely for that brace alone Kev has cemented his place in Clarets folklore.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 1:03 pmGreat talent but just like Aidy Randell not adverse to the odd visit to a pub

Shame he never kicked on in his career after that early promise, but I wish him and his family well in the future.

Re: ARTICLE: McDonald facing kidney transplant
Some players can stroll through a game and make it look easy and Kevin McDonald at the top of his game was one of those players.

Shame how his career here fizzled as the lad clearly had exceptional ability. I wish him nothing but well in his recovery.
