saying "We could get a result today" even if you get battered 6-0, you've still had a result. result just means the final score win lose or draw.

“He’s been denied by the woodwork” ... What you mean to say is “He missed”

Yes, the woodwork has never denied anyone a goal. Unless in the unlikely event that the goal frame has collapsed and a goal bound shot struck the falling crossbar.

I guess we all know what it alludes to but "his legs have gone" always gives me strange visions- like something from a Monty Python Holy Grail sketch.

It's already been mentioned but "false nine" is the Emperor's New Clothes of modern day football.

Nobody but nobody knows what it means but everybody is too scared to admit so.
It means the No9 is faking it.

Attacking the back post. Surely going for a header will suffice ?
Also Arsenal in the top half of the table never get that one.

Every right to go down

There is no 'right' to get anything from going down, unless you cannot stay upright owing to the outside force. Then maybe something is due but not that often.

Heard it a few times in commentary.

'Playing the quarter-back position'.

No, no he's not!
It's also a bit out of touch. The sort of person that gets this tag is shelvey. The sort of qb that sits in the pocket without having any ability to run/scramble is very out of favour.

Shelvey is hardly Patrick mahomes. He's more Ben roethlisberger but with an even lower passer rating. Neither the steelers nor the geordies are going to win anything with them in charge.

The English Premier league is the greatest league in the World.🙄
Spot on Steve. The only thing it’s greatest at is self-promotion as the greatest. I think the average Spanish, German or Italian fan may feel slightly different.

Simulation.
Right to go down.
There was contact.
Reference to any Arsenal player (or most of the so-called ‘big six’).
These are all synonyms for cheating but pundits refuse to call it what it is.

All the more power to my statement when the current Champions of the best league in the world are starting down the barrel of a sixth straight home defeat ...I wouldn't even have it in the top 3 Ian.

When commentators say "he's unlucky" when a player hits the bar or post... no, he's not, he's inaccurate!

Actually this is a real bad one, if it’s in his locker why isn’t it on the pitch with him?

It’s the best league to watch in the world BECAUSE anybody can beat anybody. This is not normal in most of the quality leagues.

It was just the same when it was called Division One but only became the 'Best League in the World' when Sky told everyone it was.
