ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
He might not have ever featured for The Jam or The Style Council but he did pull on a claret and blue shirt. Dave Thomas's new book.

Wanting a copy but Amazon won’t deliver to Ireland.
I’ll sort it somehow.

Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
I'm not a reader. In fact I've still not started the 2nd chapter of David Jason's book and the wife got that for me about six years ago. However. I liked Weller and am tempted to get this one.
Is there going to be a paperback version at some date or just hard back?

Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
I was once treated to hospitality at the Turf in the late 90's by a friend who, it turned out, also knew Paul W and he and his fiance were also in the hospitality box. He really was such a nice guy to spend the afternoon with and was (I think) pretty much in the middle of trying sort his colitis out and hopefully get back playing, so things were pretty rough for him at that point.

Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
Cheers. I'll probably just get the hardback. It's my birthday a week after it's release so I'll deliberately leave the book on the Amazon site open on the laptop . Don't think I could read it on kindle as I spend too much time staring at a screen as it isRodleydave wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 5:22 pmBen there's a cheaper one on Kindle.

His link-up play with Robbie Blake and Glen Little is some of the best football I've seen from Burnley players.
They were an absolute delight to watch at that time.

On the subject of books, I've almost finished Lenny Johnrose's book (it had been in floods of tears last night) and then my next one is the new Tim Quelch book And End of Innocence.

Mentioned at bottom of link but deserves emphasising.
Paul has donated all his royalties to the Gary Parkinson trust.
What an absolute star. Top man.

I always thought that if he hadn't have had his horrendous illnesses he would have been a top half Division one/Premiership midfielder, he was good.

I love hindsight its always rosy
Paul Weller was one of the worst players I have seen grace Turf Moor. He lacked pace, desire and heart.

Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
He does not come close to the worst players I have seen gracing the Turf. A very decent footballer.
Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
Which just goes to prove that all players, no matter how good, have someone in the stand who thinks everything they do is rubbish. Fortunately several managers as well as numerous fans disagreed, in contemporary time, with your hindsight.
Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
Wellers link up play with Glen Little was a joy to watch.
Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
One of those players who got a bum rap from the stands no matter what he did. John Oster (went on to get promotion to the PL with Reading) and Alan Moore were two more far better than players around them.
He suffered in silence with his problems but shows his character. He was undeniably talented. Some 'fans' just can't appreciate talent.

Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
Woodleyclaret... as the bloke who wrote the book with him I really ought to keep out of it, but your comment is crass, disrespectful, and inaccurate.
Him, West and Little at their best were a treat to watch together. If he was so poor (in your opinion) tell me how he was Supporters Player of the Season with a shed load of awards, the year after he came back from his illness.

Oxford (A) 1999/2000 was enough on its own to earn Paul a place in Clarets history

Whilst he wasn't one of the best the above is ********.
To say he lacked desire and heart coming back from what he did is nonsense, he is also nowhere near the worst.

Re: ARTICLE: The New Paul Weller Book
He always seemed really good to me. Admittedly I was very young when watching at the time but even then you tend to be able to spot the good from bad. He's also a great guy. I'd definitely recommend watching his interview on the clubs YouTube. I'm sure it will only make you want to buy the book even more. I also think he deserves credit for his work in radio, he's about the only one who backs us on radio lancashire surrounded by Blackburn fans and biased ex Blackburn or Blackpool has beens.
