Does Vydra

Post by claretcarrot93 » Sat Mar 13, 2021 7:44 pm

Bring the best out of Wood? Wood has been great last few weeks. He has always been a goal threat but all round game looks good.

I believe he makes Wood play more on the deck. I have never seen Wood appear so capable with the ball at his feet as these last three games.

Very good partnership and always creates problems as well as space for wood. Just needs confidence and composure himself.

Said it in my ratings that Vydra is creating space, not just for Wood, but others to play around.

If he could start to finish some of his chances, which I’m sure it’s a confidence thing, he’s gonna be a real asset for us.

One thing I’ve really noticed improve is his work rate and ‘aggression’ - something that Dyche demands and I thought he was lacking a bit at first.

He never stops,

Clearly won't be a prolific goalscorer but his work rate that brings chances is fantastic.

Vydra brings the best out of all out attacking players. His awareness and speed of thought to lay it off to others helps the flow of our football no end.

There was a great example where a ball was threaded in to Vydra as he was moving in to the area and he did a brilliant back heal out of nowhere to McNeil who but for some good defending would have probably scored

The question is will Vydra want to stay, I hope his run in the team continues and he does want to stay. Possibly our fastest player and gives us a completelt different dimention.

Completely agree. He seems to have just added a bit more intensity and work rate to his game with us. He's much busier in his game whether it defensively chasing down defenders and working with Wood in that and attacking wise looking for the ball, running channels, holding it up, etc.
Hopefully, his confidence grows even more and he can get a goal scoring run going.

Great movement, stretches defences which has to benefit Wood.
Shame he's not a really good finisher but if he was he'd be playing somewhere else.
Can't fault his attitude and application.

Add some goals to his game, and what a player that lad will be. His running off the ball is brilliant, snatching at most of his efforts...but it will come.

With JBG on the other flank that also allows us to play brownhill in his best position and have less reliance on McNeil. Which actually frees him up more too.

As it stands it’s definitely Vydras shirt.

You have to suspect there'll be a return to lump-ball as soon as Barnes is declared fit.

I think he needed a run of games for the others to get on his wavelength. When he came in for odd games the players didnt provide the movement around him and were not ready for his quick lay offs and give and go's

Yes, he's making Wood look a better player. Dyche doesn't need another striker in the summer. He needs to start Vydra with Wood every game, unless either is injured and Jay and Barnes are back up. Simple.

Been a long time fan of Vyds and he has definitely made Wood better. The good thing was Dyche’s post match interview when he was full of praise for his strikers. Does this mean our default striking partnership is now Vydra and Wood? I certainly hope so.

Vydra helps Wood more than the other way round but hopefully with time a partnership will form. Big man little man always works best imo.

The biggest challenge for both is improving their all round game. They are both used to be the focal goal poachers but in the premier league you have to be so much more. Vydra has shown improvement with his work rate and hold up play. He still has work to do with his finishing but it should come in time. You don't score like he has in the past without having a natural eye for goal.

Wood gets to lurk centrally a lot more with Vydra making runs. Really opens up space and allows us to get more men in the box.

I still feel like Wood needs to improve his flick ons and hold up play. If they can both improve and get on the same wavelength more I think we'll be in for a treat next season.

I reckon Vedra got a real rocket at half time v Arsenal. He loses out physically too often but he came out in that 2nd half, put himself about, did the dirty work and changed the momentum of the game. Shame that lung busting effort affects his composure when it comes to finishing chances. This reflects our game as a whole I think - you have to be a top player to have physicality and composure. These players cost money.

Don't understand the bashing of Ash. Barnes is quality with the ball at his feet, he has a great touch for a big bloke. He also finishes better than Vyds. The only thing Vyds is better for is that speed, but at the moment I think we need that speed. I'd keep the starting line up as it is, but no need to knock Ash.
Vyds is so frustrating because he should score loads more goals than he does. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, he let's the misses get to him, and as long as he does he'll continue to miss them. He needs to stop feeling sorry or angry, or frustrated and relax.

At the moment yes I think he does. Thought they were both outstanding again yesterday. The more game time Vyds get the better he'll become. I'm sure SD will be giving him the motivation and praise he needs, probably needs the old arm round the shoulder now and then but Im struggling to visualise that at the minute from SD. :)

Wood probably benefitting from an enforced rest as well, would explain why he's looking sharper, though I do agree this partnership has potential. Vydra needs to work on not snatching at shots on goal.

I can’t think of any other reason we have started playing on the ground and what a pleasure to watch.
A mention earlier of JBG making us look a better team, he does but that is as much to do with the balance of the side, although he’s perfect for our system when 100%. Two widemen who deliver but know how to play FB when defending.

Vydra makes the opposition defence play deeper which means Wood is getting the ball in and around the box, basically where the goal is, and not between half way and the 40 yard line.
Also Vydras runs and constant movement create the space and he links with other players and Wood is starting to do that too now.
The work rate of Vydra is immense

I think the big change in recent weeks has been the effectiveness of the pressing, it directly lead to the goals against Arsenal, Leicester and again at Everton. Winning the ball that high up the pitch allows us to have more players in the box when we come to shoot and increases our options. Vydra definitely helps with this pressing with his energy. Credit to Brownhill and Westwood too who made 4 and 5 interceptions yesterday which really helped create opportunities.

I don't think we can really say it's just a case of us deciding to play it on the ground, we made fewer passes yesterday than against West Brom or Spurs, and 1 in 4 of them was a long ball which was a considerably higher proportion than in those games. Clearly we're using the ball with much more purpose and I feel that it's the quick transitions and commitment to getting men in the box that has really picked up in the last few games.

Clearly we're using the ball with much more purpose and I feel that it's the quick transitions and commitment to getting men in the box that has really picked up in the last few games.
Before the Villa game, I'd complained many times about our poor transition, lack of identity going forward, and negative style when we crossed the half way line.
Since that game, even when we haven't played well, we have pressed higher, played the ball forward with purpose, and most of all got players in the box more. It's a world of difference. Our defence has always been solid, but playing the way we have in the last couple of months is so much more pleasing on the eye, and so much more rewarding. The injuries could have had a lot to do with the early season form, but we still have the injuries now, we just don't use it as an excuse to sit deep.
Another gripe was our resort to the long ball when under sustained pressure, when we have always looked better, and had more control when we kept the ball on the deck.
A couple of decent signings in the summer, and there's no reason why this team couldn't flirt with Europe again.

Doubt it very much. Once in the side, and if continuing to play well, Dyche is all about continuity.

Still buzzing with how we played yesterday, our sides always seem to look better with the big lad and smaller pacey/skillful type. Allows us to really mix it up.

Vokes and Ings
Vokes and Gray
Wood and Vydra

It gives the defenders so much more to think about than heading it for 90 minutes, as there's always the threat in behind so they cant hold a high line.

Also when the ball is into feet more rather than continuously going long, it allows the midfield to get closer to the front 2, meaning they can get involved and build up momentum and pressure.
Something that cannot happen if when its ip top a forward is either winning a feee kick, conceding a feee kick, being in the floor. Even if they win the first long ball the midfield are usually too far away.

Really pleased for Vydra he's been involved in all the good things of our attacking play in the last half a dozen games, and possibly could/should have added a couple more goals to his name aswell.

He’s been brilliant the last few weeks, albeit mainly his running, creating space, and work off the ball. Just hope the goals he deserves start flowing.

His shirt to lose now and this combination is definitely our best in my opinion.

Very much hope not. Some of the play at Goodison, particularly in the first half was some of the best I've ever seen from a Burnley team (I've watched them since the mid 70's).
Vydra was at the heart of it. Battling for the ball, holding it, distributing to others in the attack and really causing problems for Everton.
He really makes us look like a team that can play good attacking football.

Vydra is a real asset and I think the combination of a big’un and a nippy little’un works best if we are playing 4-4-2. That said we are lucky to have four strikers who offer different things and who all make a contribution at different times and in different types of game.

Its looking like a very decent partnership is Vydra and Wood as did Brownhill and Westwood yesterday (though I'd like to see Cork with Brownhill playing centre mid). But if Vydra was a top class striker he would have scored a couple yesterday.
