Can Woody reach double figures again
That cracking strike at Goodison is his 6th of the season, and he's looking far sharper since his return, so he must stand a fair chance given our remaining fixtures, and if he could crack the 10 goal mark once more, that'll be a 4th successive season he'll have managed that feat at this level.
For all his critics he's certainly justified his £15m price tag, and he still remains our biggest goal threat, and when he doesn't play we definitely miss him.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Absolutely brilliant signing for us. Averaging a goal every 216 minutes in the Premier League for us which, if you played every minute, works out at 16 games per season.

So underrated!
He scored goals; simple as that.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
For sure. He can easily get four more.
Even if he doesn’t he’s still had a reasonable season.
Been a top class number nine.
Like many before him as a big number nine, gets nowhere near the credit deserved. (See Vokes. Gareth Taylor. Among others).

Fingers crossed if he stays injury free he can.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Like to think he can do so and gets the chance to do so.
He's had some stick on here earlier in the season but he's come
back from injury and beginning to look as if he can get the goals
he and the team need.
I'm pretty sure defenders don't like playing against him.
He's good with his head and better with his feet and shooting
than many have suggested.
I like him and hope he gets a hat trick in our next game.

You're not expecting much are you, that said he does tend to score in patches, and hopefully this is the start of a purple one for him.jurek wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 10:59 pmLike to think he can do so and gets the chance to do so.

He has looked sharp since he came back.
Missed a few chances but it doesn't seem as costly now were creating more.
Good chance he will go on a run now.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
He can as long as he stays injury free. Barring injury he will bring up 50 premier league goals for us next season which will be quite an achievement. There really aren’t many players who have scored so frequently outside of the big six.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
If Vydra stays fit he will do it easily. If Vydra gets injured however it might not be so easy but I think he would still do it
Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Wood frustrates me a lot but he certainly knows where the back of the net is and you can’t argue against his scoring record for us.

He could have reached the 10 goals already if he would only head downwards. That was what I was taught 60-70 years ago and it still holds true!

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
I was thinking just this the other day. 9 games to go. 4 to get. I think it’s possible. The key may be Vydra. Wood has seemed reborn since Vydra has been starting. Is it possible Dyche had at last found the striking partnership that:
A. Works.
B. Makes us far more attractive to watch.
I’m actually dreading Barnes getting fully fit again in case Dyche decides to shoe him in again. Hopefully he won’t but if he did I wouldn’t fall off my chair in shock.

He should be on 10 already with some of those disgusting chances he missed earlier in the season.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
That pen today has taken him up to 7 now, so he's got every chance of reaching double figures again, and he's now bagged for 3 successive games.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Besides his goals he offers so much more and the head on for Vydra’s goal today was excellent
Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Played well today overall and certainly providing a threat with Vydra. However some really, really poor play when we needed it to stick unfortunately. One of which ended up in a goal
Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Like Wood, but his mistake led directly to the 3rd today and his misses ultimately led to zero points. It's a horrible comparison, but Ings is in a different league as a player at this level.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Yes they've linked well in the past few games, are they now our 1st choice front pair?, I guess SD can hardly drop either on this form.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 5:13 pmBesides his goals he offers so much more and the head on for Vydra’s goal today was excellent
And it's pleasing to see Vydra finally adding goals to his game that's all he's been lacking is the finishing touch, his general play has been excellent for several weeks now.
Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
We would have won comfortably had Ings not been playing.

Agree with that, generally his all round game is good, in addition to the goals he gets. Big player for us.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 5:13 pmBesides his goals he offers so much more and the head on for Vydra’s goal today was excellent
He'll be very disappointed with his part in their winning goal though

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Don’t think it’s fair to compare him with Ings who is clearly an outstanding Premier League striker now.
Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
They are both forwards for clubs occupying positions directly next to one another today.

100% our best strikeforce, I just hope we see it again next season. We all knew Vydra would do this when he got his chance.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 5:17 pmYes they've linked well in the past few games, are they now our 1st choice front pair?, I guess SD can hardly drop either on this form.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
He has done well in recent weeks. But to judge entirely off goals is folly and shows a lack of understanding of the beautiful game.

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Don't score goals you don't win games, and although Wood has his faults his scoring record at Burnley is pretty impressive considering our standing in this league, as for the beautiful game there's different ways to win football matches, and Wood is a vital part of our success over the past few seasons.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 8:30 pmHe has done well in recent weeks. Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Is that right?
I had Wood down as a good penalty taker and thought he had scored 9 or 10 for us?

Today & Wolves at home at the end of last season. His other pens have been in cup games.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 11:14 pmIs that right?

Re: Can Woody reach double figures again
Yeah scored 3 more in the cups and europa league and two more in penalty shootouts against Leeds and Shef Utd. Means he's taken 7 for us in total and scored them all.

In the league it’s 41 goals in 119 appearances (102 starts)

I bet we’ve not had that many given for us in the last decade nearly.

Well the answer to my original is an emphatic yes. And in this form he could easily bag a few more yet before the campaign is over.

He is playing really well at the moment. Long may it continue and I’m happy to be proven wrong if it means bfc benefit. I think Vydra compliments Wood so well.
