Oh well, it's a shame it's not in the town centre as it is crying out forca large venue serving decent beer with live bands and no dick heads in.Burnley87 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 6:03 pmNot for us is that place. Very little going for it in terms of location and very little other pubs around it to create a circuit. Also it’s to far away to walk into town.
Shame really but for pubs to work location is key. People aren’t willing to get out the car for food nowadays never mind walk 15 mins to the next pub

EDIT - I see somebody has made a similar point. The Boot and The Bridge e.g. is very much within walking distance.
I actually think it’s in a very decent location - a great ‘starting point’ pub.

If you read through the thread we weren't talking about the distance from a shithole, we were talking about the proximity of Thomsons Park.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 6:04 pmMost places in Burnley are five minutes away from a shithole.

Who said it was? We were actually talking about the selling point of flats if The Talbot is actually turned into them. I said sarcastically it was also a selling point of Leyland Road as well. Maybe you should actually read and understand posts before commenting.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 12:54 pmYes. Which isn’t a shithole. In fact far from it.

Re: The Talbot
Problem is the young uns don't go out til midnight now. The Talbot are relying on an older crowd, and I'd guess the majority won't bother venturing into town afterwards.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 12:52 amIt’s about a five/ten minute walk away from town, max.

Re: The Talbot
The natural next stop for the Talbot crowd (other than coaching horses) is probably The Bridge - which isn't far away

Re: The Talbot
I’m not so certain about the young people only go out at midnight theory. Some do, certainly, but a lot will go for a night out if there’s cause to do so, particularly alternative crowd which The Talbot attracted due to regular live bands etc. Besides, one of the best pubs in Burnley, The Bridge, is round the corner. I certainly think it’s an attractive proposition for the right owner.

Aye, I'm not sure why the council were still letting places stay open till 8am before lockdown. Burnley used to be a great night out but its absolutely killed it.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 5:07 pmThey're trying to stop 24hr drinking in Burnley.
It would do wonders for the town.

Re: The Talbot
That's the thing though. I usually go in The Talbot and occasionally the Bridge, but I know they're both rammed pre-match.Putting all those punters into one could be interesting. Perhaps The Park will be so good we'll all be in there.Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 2:36 pmThe natural next stop for the Talbot crowd (other than coaching horses) is probably The Bridge - which isn't far away

Sad news, but I suppose it's better than the building going to wrack and ruin.
Re: The Talbot
A real shame that I used to like watching games there and the excellent choice of ale.

RIP The Talbot”. Watched many bands and BFC wins (and losses) in there.
Re: The Talbot
Was the drinking place for Rishton Clarets before and after games. Will need to find a new venue now.

Re: The Talbot
We used to call in before the match for a pint or two, but we gave up on it as a live music venue. They were advertising the same old bands every time we had a look. Burnley really does have a **** poor live music scene when it comes to venues for up-and-coming bands doing their own thing, not covers.
Re: The Talbot
Spewer, another part of Burnley's history going. Superb friendly matchday pub brilliant chatting with away fans in there who kept returning. The best music scene. I suppose there is an opportunity for another pub to take up the mantle.

Royal Dyche seems to be one of the better places for that now. Re: The Talbot
It was our choice pre match for what must have been going on 10 seasons. A big shame. Wide selection of beers, sky and BT, pool table - it really was the ideal place for our group.

Re: The Talbot
Has the Sparrowhawk been developed since UCFB abandoned it?
Always seemed to struggle as a hotel with a lack of secure parking. Remember Mark Radcliffe had his car broken into while staying there once.

As the Talbot shuts new places open up. The Wharf on FInsley Gate has opened this week. Food, outdoor space, beer, canal, close to town.

Re: The Talbot
I mean, is it me being closed minded, but what's wrong with chunky chips, peas and a couple of fried eggs like you used to get in t'Waggoners.
I don't mind a cassoulet, with sausages and lentils, but a cumberland ring needs some form of spud!
