I'd like to raise the point that the OP has absolutely no time for Brownhill, who's growing nicely into a PL player for us, but was seriously considering signing Wilshere who can't even complete 90 mins regularly and has utterly failed to tear apart the league below.
Why bring Brownhill into the conversation?

Wilshere had a good close of season with Bournemouth. It’s looks like Bournemouth couldn’t afford to offer him a new contract. Rumoured to be going to Celtic or Watford.

Would he add something different to our team, 100%. If he is fit he is a good player.

Why?
Just highlighting how you'd like to sign a crock instead of letting a younger player carry on growing.

Its hilarious to me that you think like this.

I don’t understand why your linking the two?
Where have I said Wilshere will come in and take his place.
I have said Wilshere will add something different to our squad which he would.

Struggling to grasp why I find it bizarre that you'll batter a player who's shown he's fit, is improving and is the future for us but you'll flutter your eyelashes at a crocked has been who's done very little in the league below to suggest he can step up into the PL?

Ok then..

On the list of players we neither want or need there won't be many above Wilshire.

That’s your view. I think the fact that Dyche has shifted him into a number of positions rather than the one he was signed to play highlights he isn’t good enough.

Regardless of that fact, I think Wilshere would make a difference to our squad. Not play every game but would be good off the bench to try breakdown a team.

I like how football fans just think players choose to be injured. Technically he’s many levels above our CMs. Unfortunately injuries have destroyed his career. We should be talking about him alongside Gerrard/Lampard. I remember when he absolutely schooled Xavi/Iniesta by himself.

Would I take Jack Wilshere?

In and out of the Bournemouth team, on the bench as often as starting.

But he's 29 and has 142 career league starts - that's why I wouldn't even look at him. Not fit often enough.

We just highlight how he struggles for fitness, has done for most of his career and part of the problem is when he launches himself into tackles.

As for that Barca game, fans seem to remember that game and think he can reproduce that form, when the reality is very different.

He makes Defour and Brady look positively prolific. Wouldn't want us to go anywhere near.

Brady had one horrendous injury that's led to a struggle since and then another bad one this season with the achilles, the sort of injury that finished Jon Walters for one. Has Wilshere ever had a really bad injury or is it just one thing after another.

We knew about Defour's injuries but you look back and Brady had never suffered an injury of any note until he got that bad one at Leicester.

I wouldn't be looking for 29 year old midfielders with Wilshere's record though.

List of his injuries.
Seems to regularly suffer stress or hairline fractures.

Then it stands to reason he has to spend time in rehab and then getting back to fitness, only to suffer another injury.

How can someone who is lucky to play 10 times a season be getting paid £30k a week?

No thanks we've just got Robbie Brady off the wage bill, why on earth would we want to recruit another injury prone player on big wages who'll we'll be lucky to see 10 times a season.

And you have to ask if he's so sought after why have Bournemouth a Championship club deemed him surplus to requirements, that fact alone should tell you everything you need to know about Wilshere these days.

He's just not the type of player we need. High wage, injury prone, busted flush at the highest level. When I saw him run rings around barcelona as a teenager I thought he was England's next genius midfielder, but via a combination of bad life choices and bad luck with injuries he's at a place in his career where Burnley is the absolute last place he belongs. He would not be worth the wage we paid him.

The point I was making is how else are we going to sign a player with that kind of technical ability. Even if we get 15-20 games out of him could be worth it in a season

No doubt it would come with a massive element of risk. But so did Defour.

Last 5 seasons

20/21 14 league games
19/20 8 league games
18/19 8 league games
17/18 20 league games
16/17 29 league games

Signs are he played almost 100% more games last season than the season before, lets give him a 3 year deal

Or offer him a pay as you play deal. Doesn’t have to be a three year contract. However knowing Burnley they probably would offer him a 3 year contract.

In terms of ability he was regarded as highly as Phil Foden is now. Shame is he's had so many injuries.

He hasn't completed 15 games in a row though.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-wi ... plus/1#GB2

Shows exactly how many mins he's played, when he's come off, or been put on as a sub.
He's mainly introduced as a sub and its extremely rare that he does 90mins.

He certainly wouldn't provide good value for money, even on a pay as you play deal.
If he's being let go by Bournemouth then its clear he's not tearing up the championship, nor do they think he can offer them more mins.

Good player, no doubt about that, but he's unlikely to be fit for any length of time.

But 15 league starts in the last three years which is less than Robbie Brady (23) and JBG (41).

I wouldn't even consider it.

That’s pretty much how I see it, I’m not sure how that conclusion as been reached, it’s a fact of life that some players such as wilshere/wickham ect are constantly crocked it’s misfortunate not chosen, but the facts are do we as club want to be going down to that route again especially after letting Brady go, I guess there’s a argument to be had that we will be doing the treatment team a favour by letting them earn there corn because that’s exactly what would happen if he walked through the door.

Beggars can't be choosers though, and they need players ASAP.

Just because he's training with them doesn't mean he'll earn a contract, we've had several players train at Burnley down the years just to keep up their fitness levels, who we've had no intention of ever signing, the fact that Wilshere is still without a club though, especially given he's now a free agent tells you everything you need to know.

At least he's got options, and both those clubs are in the Championship, so if he got picked up by either of those he'd be doing well.

Shame about his injuries, when he burst onto the scene he looked a class act, but his career has been ravaged ever since alas.

They need players but the League has to approve everything
They've been granted permission to sign free agents I believe, but a salary cap will apply.

I've no sympathy for Derby they've been living way beyond their means for years, and even recently they've appointed Rooney on a £4.5m contract, is it any surprise that they're struggling to pay the piper with that sort of daft spending.
