Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
I watched the Bournemouth game today and thought Jack Wilshere looked lively.
Would anyone take him on a free transfer this summer. He could be our Defour, he clearly has the technical ability it’s just whether we can keep him fit.
Rumoured to be on 30k a week now. So well within our price range. Think it could be a risk worth taking on that weekly wage.

Didn't we nearly sign him in Jan 2010 before Coyle took him to Bolton. If we did sign him now, then it would prove Owen correct about Bolton being 10 years ahead of us...

Tony might be able to confirm but think he had broken into the arsenal first time by then.Transpennine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:45 pmDidn't we nearly sign him in Jan 2010 before Coyle took him to Bolton. No, we need to look at younger, up and coming talent.

Yes possibly, but didn't he still go on loan to Bolton at that time; allegedly instead of us..?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:48 pmTony might be able to confirm but think he had broken into the arsenal first time by then.
Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
If, and it’s a huge if, he can stay fit, he’s a couple of levels above the centre midfielders we currently have in a technical sense.
I suspect he wouldn’t be interested in the slightest, though and is happy picking up his nice wage in the south coast sunshine.

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
Nope we've already got enough crocks with Brady and JBG, we're hopefully getting rid of Brady soon, so the last thing we need is another injury prone star creaming big money from our club and contributing the square root of sod all.

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
He’s a free agent in a few weeks. On a relatively low wage at 30k. I just think we are not going to get a player of his ability unless he comes with a bit of baggage (like Defour).BurnleyFC wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 9:00 pmIf, and it’s a huge if, he can stay fit, he’s a couple of levels above the centre midfielders we currently have in a technical sense.

At 30k a week or 1.5m a season I think this could be a deal worth looking into.
Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
Tricky one, on one hand he can keep the physio busy and he is cheap, but on the other he is a bit too young and likes a pass, so taking the latter into consideration it has to be a no.
Be better getting Joe Allen in, or extend Stephen's contract for 2 more years.

The only way I would take him is on a pay per play deal. Out injured? That's ok, you get paid nowt. If he is on 30k a week he would cost us about 300k a year.

A lot of money but if we can get 20 games out of him I think it would be worth it.

All been agreed with Arsenal, he was coming on loan. We'd also got Stuart Holden, he was actually sat in the dug out at MK for the cup tie.Transpennine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:45 pmDidn't we nearly sign him in Jan 2010 before Coyle took him to Bolton. Would I sign him now? Good player no doubt but too often injured. You'd probably be more likely to get run of games from Robbie Brady.

Perhaps the OP should have started with where; in which case Burnley general urgent care.

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
To be fair he hasn’t been injured since he joined Bournemouth. They always sub him off around the 70. He’s got better as his fitness came back and they’ve had a good string of results. Still only 1 goal and 1 assist in 8 starts and a few sub appearances. If he continues to improve as he regains fitness, it’s a no brainer for me. $30k and no transfer fee for that kind of player we have to be interested.

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
Yet to finish 90 mins in the league for Bournemouth.
Of the 20 league games Bournemouth have played since he signed, he's only started 8, and come on as a sub in 5, stayed on the bench as an unused sub for 6.
He's even managed to fit in a one game suspension....
Played a total of 630mins out of a potential 1800 mins.
Scored 1 goal and has 1 assist.
If that was any other player they wouldn't even be getting looked at by people on here.
We should be looking elsewhere.

I wouldn't have taken Jack Whilshere for free, with no wages 10 years ago.
As for suggesting he's on 30k a week... have a word with yourself!

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
I would indeed take Wilshere in the summer. I’d take him anywhere he wished to go, with the express understanding it was nowhere near our club.
Judas did indeed agree to sign him and Holden, plus I think the winger he took to Bolton from City was Weiss, although I’ve no idea if he was ever intended for Turf Moor. By then we’d bedded in Fernando Guerrero (he was that superb he was still avoiding anything approaching a foul towards the prophecy that he’d be the most fouled player in The Premier League) and Frederic Nimani (who was about as mobile as a 3-piece suite and must still thank his lucky stars he won that raffle!)

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
I think if we could get him on a free with a pay as you play it would still be a superb to see a player of that quality. A bit of a maverick as a kid which never went well at Arses from Charlie George’s day, and the injuries but his ability is still there for our players to be around that in training would be worth the wage I would have thought.
Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
Looks like they're easing him back in, good management. I certainly didn't expect him to play 90 minutes every week from day 1. I also wouldn't look at the goals/assists stats, he's never ever been that type of player to make those stats hold any weight.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 11:23 pmYet to finish 90 mins in the league for Bournemouth.

As for signing him, it would depend entirely on what the professionals here say about his body, I don't know how likely he is to breakdown again, are Bournemouth not playing him 90 each week because his body will never get back to that? idk

Seems like a classic Defour punt to me. We would never normally get a chance at a player like this so if the economics fit into place why not?

Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
Unlike Defour, who was pushing for a recall to the Belgium national team during his first season with us, Wilshere has no footballing ambition - other than for regular games for a decent wage.
Therefore it all comes down to lifestyle. Bournemouth can match our wage structure (especially if promoted) and is in easy reach of London. JW seems settled there and seems to have conquered some of his demons, so he can pick and choose his next move.
Burnley or Bournemouth. ??? You decide.

There is honestly no point in signing Wilshere if he isn't going to make a significant change to that.
He isn't running the show at championship level, it ain't gonna happen in the PL.
Like I said, if it was any other championship player with that amount of game time, they wouldn't even be getting a mention.
There's this thing about Wilshere that causes people to get excited about him, but if we are all honest, he's not going to pull up any trees for us.
If he was, he'd still be in the PL...

Honestly think he’ll leave Bournemouth because someone (palace? Watford? Villa?) will stump up 60k on a free to have him there. I’d give him a good shout personally but I think his agent will get him back in the prem.IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 7:22 amUnlike Defour, who was pushing for a recall to the Belgium national team during his first season with us, Wilshere has no footballing ambition - other than for regular games for a decent wage.

He isn't..
People get all misty eyed about the Barca game and use it as a benchmark of what he can do, but I can't recall him coming close to that level again.
It would be a waste of our budget quite frankly, to sign a player who isn't going to give us enough.
People called out Hendrick regularly but at least he was able to play on demand for 90 mins.

Title winner in 2 countries for example.
Many more appearances than Wilshere.
Re: Would you take Jack Wilshere in the summer?
We'll probably end up spending more on Dale Stephens than Wilshire despite Wilshire being a better player. I also think Wilshire would feature more.
Don't let that detract from the "not good enough and wouldn't play enough arguments" though.

He's good enough, just doesn't seem to be fit enough for long enough.
We've had our fair share of this.
Prefer to take a punt on a couple of lower league younger players.

I'd like to raise the point that the OP has absolutely no time for Brownhill, who's growing nicely into a PL player for us, but was seriously considering signing Wilshere who can't even complete 90 mins regularly and has utterly failed to tear apart the league below.
