You haven’t heard about a boycott of social media this weekend because of continued racist abuse?
Yep, but don't get how the Sun doing stories in a paper on a footballer, like they've done on Rooney, Terry, Carroll, Grealish and many more, are the same as the vile, racist abuse being dished out on social media, which the boycott is all about.

As far as I can recall, Raheem hasn't actually done anything wrong, that's the point.

If you want to discus the quality of reporting in the Sun, or any other paper then fine, you'll find they've done the same against White, black, male, female, gay, straight people

What they haven't done is print anything nearing the vile posted on social media, the two don't come close, so if the sun want to boycott social media this weekend that's OK, and doesn't make them hypocritical, which is what was being suggested

Sterling racially abused after the win over PSG on instagram.

A Stoke winger also abused since the weekend and a Swansea player abused during the boycott.

Pathetic! isn't it, one potential solution would be to publicly name and shame the culprits, of course the problem is you need to actually identify them firstly, as I'm fairly confident they won't have used their real names when posting that filth.

Anybody with a modicum of intelligence would realise that’s the solution but instead let’s all persist with something that gives us trouble & carry on moaning about something we are all in control of. It’s like persistently suffering from heartburn but continuing to eat vindaloos & phalls.

Until we stop just lazily blaming this on social media and acting like its a minority hiding behind a computer we will never make any progress. This is a problem with our society as racism isnt just about the extreme examples we see on the surface like these incidents.

There is a much bigger problem at the root of this with lazy throwaway racism that people dismiss as being harmless or just a joke and excuse it and even try and turn it around that the problem is people making it into an issue by talking about it.

Until this type of people are able to accept they are part of the problem and look to improve themselves it will always end up in a culture war with minorities ending up as the collateral damage in other peoples tribal games

If you can’t hack it don’t back it, somebody leaving the house & becoming a victim of crime is damn unfortunate, somebody wilfully inviting abuse on social media is damn right stupid, if you can hack it back it, but don’t cry like a little girl when things go wrong, I’ve no sympathy for people receiving abuse on social media because people have a choice, me leaving my house to buy a loaf of bread is different.

If previous abuse history is apparent in most cases that’s the case, if everytime I walk into the same pub & a same bloke who’s tougher than me keeps punching me in the nose, I’d avoid the pub. If you like to keep your nose intact it tends to be a wise course of action.

You'd be happy as the victim, to be the one who didn't go to the pub anymore? You wouldn't like the other bloke to be barred so you could continue to go to the pub?

I don’t agree with anybody getting abused anywhere, but it will always continue, from the life within me I don’t understand why people put themselves in a position where they are subjected to abuse & what’s even more baffling is they kick up a fuss about it, if I see trouble or I know something is likely to cause trouble I run off in the opposite direction & not towards it, nowt as queer as folk or so they say!

Go on then, please explain why people knowingly knowing that there will get abuse doing something is a good idea for them to continue doing something & receiving abuse??? I’m intrigued. The logical solution is to refrain & abstain away from the source of the abuse or maybe that’s just too normal for some of you!

You by being on here are (by your beliefs) putting yourself into a position where you can be abused. So if you were to be racially abused on here...constantly...would you say it's right that you should leave a platform you enjoy just so you can live an abuse free life? By your values you shouldn't then be here because you have put yourself in that position. Talk about tackling the wrong end of the problem.

It is a strange world you live in where you think the abusers can abuse freely yet the innocent users have to leave. If we copied this into the real world we would soon be in a world where only the haters would be free to do as they wish and rule the roost. Not a nice vision.

The sooner social media is regulated and clamped down on the better.

The logical solution is to deal with the racists head on.

Nothing will change if the victims are forced to hide away, it just encourages the abusers because its a win for them.

You're taking a really backwards view to this, so much so it raises questions about you.

If I thought it would help you to understand I would do, but you’ve proven many a time that you’re incapable to appreciating the nuance and balance of any given situation, and you view things in a really infantile, black and white manner.

All that would happen is you’d dig in even further and come back with even wilder arguments and analogies and we’d get nowhere. I’ll save us both the bother, my funny little friend.

The abuse will never stop, there’s 2 options, option 1, we can all complain about it & have temporary bans & bleat on about it until the cows come home, or option 2, is a complete abstinence a permanent solution to fix a problem, I don’t think the “innocent users” should leave but at the end of day there have willingly put themselves in that position to receive abuse, nobody is forcing Marcus rashford onto Twitter with a gun to there head, it shouldn’t have to be this way but it fix’s a problem permanently, the problem will never ever go away any other way.

People will find ways of getting through if you are determined enough, I don’t think there’s enough appetite to tackle the problem, you’d think grown adults should be responsible for sound decision making whether to participate or abstain without any outside involvement. We’ve been discussing this problem for years & I think in another 10 years & longer we’ll be discussing it again & again, the problem will never go away in my view it’s down to individual adults to make adult decisions.

Ok lets try this from another angle.

If Rashford wasn't on social media, do you think he would've been as successful at forcing the government to change policy last year over feeding the kids?

No, social media helped force a change for good.

Take famous people off social media and they lose the ability to help change things for the better.

First & foremost you’ve raised some excellent points & marcus rashford certainly helped the cause regarding the school dinners, I was extremely uneasy about Marcus rashfords motives regarding the school dinners & didn’t think it was fitting for a footballer to be engaging himself in that manner, if he personally wanted to contribute towards the school meals for everybody I’d say ram on, it later transpired people who didn’t even have children would be picking up the tab for other people’s children, as I recall at the time it emerged that Marcus had an extensive property portfolio around the Manchester area where a massive homeless & destitute population lived & were absolutely desperate & no help with accommodation was offered. It’s easier to spend other people’s money but harder to spend your own!

From the loud mouth ignoramus to the idiot school boy, they know that the best way to effectively hurt someone is using racist insults. If they can do this without being caught so much the better. It used to be chanting as part of a crowd or individually shouting within a big crowd at a football match.
They know now that social media will actually protect them so they use that. They are basically cowards so they will stop when this changes.
The big trick will be to stop them wanting to do this in the first place, a challenge at any time but even more difficult when the world is becoming nationalistic with ‘populist’ government’s.

It's an elegant solution. If all those who may be abused leave social media then the only ones left are the abusers so you just ban everyone who uses social media. Job done.

You mean governments like ours, led by a 'Letter Box' PM.
You’ll never stop it whilst you’ve got a hole in your backside, people will always miss penalties & sitters & get sent off & be born with different coloured skin ect ect, I’m just using trigger examples, so you either continue doing the same thing & keep experiencing the same problems or you go down another route & stop the thing dead, like the wise man once said - insanity is doing the same thing over & over again & expecting different results, I can’t think of a better textbook example.
