Premier League: Executives from ESL clubs forced to quit advisory roles

Post by Leisure » Thu Apr 29, 2021 3:01 pm

Executives at clubs involved in the failed European Super League have been forced to resign from advisory roles at the Premier League.

The move is a consequence of the so-called 'Big Six' teams attempting to set up a league which drew widespread criticism before it fell apart.

The 14 other Premier League clubs felt betrayed by the move and demanded that executives involved, including Manchester United's Ed Woodward, Liverpool's Tom Werner and Manchester City's Ferran Soriano, step down.

Woodward and Werner will no longer sit on the Premier League's Club Broadcast Advisory Group.

Soriano and Arsenal's chief executive Vinai Venkatesham will be removed from the Club Strategic Advisory Group, while Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck will no longer be on the Audit and Remuneration Committee.

Tottenham, who were also part of the short-lived European Super League breakaway, were not represented in the three groups, which were introduced 18 months ago and discuss ideas before they are presented to clubs to vote on.

Not sure just what difference it will make? Maybe they'll now have less influence?

it's a token gesture. You can get a red card for intent but seemingly a pass when you want to destroy football

You can't punish these people. What can you do that would punish them?

The Premier League/ FIFA/ The Pope/ The Dalai Lama / Gary Neville ? What are they going to do that would hurt these Clubs and their officials?

It's a good start to make sure that the clubs that are causing the problems aren't also the ones making decisions for the Premier League.

I think the 14 clubs were hoping for stronger sanctions than stopping their monthly luncheons

I think the PL asked them to resign a couple of weeks ago - if they've been forced to it means they weren't prepared to do it voluntarily. I don't think this will be the last sanction from the PL.

No change to voting rights, As I and many feared all they will end up with is stand in the corner for an hour. Oh well we keep football for eighteen months before the next attempt. On the bright side, they will know how to overcome fan opposition so destroying football can carry on along its same merry path.

Make the distribution of TV revenues equal.

That may just push these "Top 6" over the edge completely.

No doubt they'll be conspiring to achieve their goal of football domination, by other means, as we sleep.

Weasel is as weasel does, and **** the rest of the Football World :(

It is hard to punish a club without punishing the fans.

I do believe something more will happen but it’s hard to see how any punishment will feel any fan being left with feeling justified.
