21 years ago today was that fantastic day at Scunthorpe, where we clinched authentic promotion.
Wow how it flies by, it means anyone under 21 has never seen us play outside of the top 2 divisions, lucky them!
Brief ( very ) highlights below, couldn't find extended highlights only the full game which is also linked below .... enjoy

Re: 21 years ago today
Was possibly the last game I let someone else sort out my plans for an away day.
Had nothing to do transport and tickets were all being sorted. Went on a mini bus, arrived just after 10am, got very drunk, mini bus never returned after game resulting in jibbing a train to Manchester and having a ticket for their main stand.

That 21 years has flown by. Quite an achievement that no one under 21 has seen us play in the bottom two divisions.
Don't know their born.

I was on the Turf with my dad for the big screen. Remember the tannoy person giving the HT results out and Accy Stanley's result in the non - league being read out. The nerves and the scenes at the end were special. Gillingham lost at Wrexham who were being managed by Brian Flynn I think at the time and they were already down but hung on to a 1-0 win if i remember right. Our game had finished first so had no idea in the days when people brought radios to grounds.

What a day. Not long finished GCSE's. Still got Jackson's (16 for scunthorpe) shirt somewhere as a momento haha

My favourite away game as a kid, I was 11 and went on a mini bus. Played football on a pub car park before the game, the whole day from start to finish was great! I’ve all the newspaper cut outs as well which show me on my dads shoulders on the pitch! Not bad to say I didn’t even have a ticket, my dad just pulled me through the turnstile with him.

Re: 21 years ago today
Mrs CM was at Turf Moorand was relaying the match progress, from the screen, by mobile to me in Brazil.
Re: 21 years ago today
It’s incredible to me that we’ve spent so long out of the bottom two divisions given that the first 25 years of me watching the clarets was mainly third and fourth tier.
Re: 21 years ago today
Meanwhile it’s now 60 years since Preston North End (the team that finished above us that season) played a top flight match
But lest we forget, they are superior.

I enjoyed watching Burnley in the 3rd and 4th tier, but I'm glad it's so long ago.
Re: 21 years ago today
Hard to believe it’s 21 years ago, remember it better than yesterday. Cov claret junior had just been born but Mrs CovClaret was happy for me to travel up from Coventry to watch the game on the big screen at TM.

Totally outplayed by Gillingham in a 3-0 defeat at the Turf with just four games remaining and it looked all over for us.
We won all four remaining games and Gillingham missed out after their defeat at Wrexham.
I thought we'd beat Scunthorpe but I didn't expect Gillingham to lose to Wrexham after the job they'd done on us.

Served that condescending sod Peter Taylor right.
Wasn't it after that Gillingham 3-0 game that he said to Stan something like "don't worry, Stan, you'll get it right".

Re: 21 years ago today
I was well into my 20s before Burnley dropped out of the top 2 divisions for the 1st time in their history. My son, born in 1983, saw his, unfortunately solitary, 1st season in the (then) League 1 (I think) aged 11 or 12 and then again when he was 17. My grandkids have never known us play outside the top 2 divisions and 3 of them have only ever known us playing in the PL.
