Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If we were in the Championship this year, I could see the likes of Benson, Thomas, and Richardson really coming into the side. Possibly emerging as the first reserves and then starting games where required.
It's one hell of an ask though for these young lads to step into such a high-stakes, high-pressure environment such as the PL. How many have we had do that over the years? McNeil is the only one, and he really is an exception in every sense of the word.
Unrealistic.

We do have chronic shortages? I don’t understand your point.
Do you want us to start playing lads haven’t even played a minute of professional football in the premier league?

I was impressed with Bobby Thomas yesterday. Albeitly against lower league opposition but him and Nathan Collins both looked solid. Also was massively impressed by Gomez Mancini in his short cameo. I thought that Richardson got knocked off the ball too easy to be able to step up yet. But that's just my opinion.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 11:15 amRichardson could well feature early in the season if Wood and Vydra are not available.
Thomas could make the squad.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
My point was if you believe we have chronic (very strong word) shortages then surely you think some of the under 23s will get a chance. I was also alluding to the fact that you never have a postive word to say about our club.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 11:16 amWe do have chronic shortages? Richardson is not physically developed enough to cope yet. He’s still growing. Get him a loan in league one until Christmas, see how he does.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 11:15 amRichardson could well feature early in the season if Wood and Vydra are not available.

I remember Jay Rod looking like a scrawny little thing when he broke into the team and one summer he just seemed to fill out. I’d imagine that will be next summer for Richardson.

These days we have conditioning experts at the club.
if the only reason to send a player to a league one club on loan is to get them to fill out a bit then the loan is pointless, isn't it?

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
To be fair Taio i find it difficult to stay positive about the club.
What is there to be excited about this season? Another season of not trying in the cup competitions and poor football brought on by bad/no recruitment. It is frustrating coming from the squad, brand of football we were playing only 3-4 seasons ago to now.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
To be fair, the news that our profit (typically £30m) before transfer costs are taken into account) has just been reduced by £6m p.a. on top of what we have already lost re. coronavirus issues - is relevant to transfer dealings.Stockbrokerbelt wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:32 amLots of presumptions about no money to spend etc, debt upon debt, no investors etc, just presumptions, Dyche & Pace have both publicly stated they are going to strengthen so there is cash available & we’ve already committed 12 mil. As for debt Kieran McGuire who is the football finance expert states the take over is a good structured deal & only needs 6 mil of extra income to service the debt which is normal practice in acquisitions Could we get back to what this post is about transfer rumours……..
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I suggest putting things in perspective. Including recognising that in relative terms the last several years are right up there in the club's history. I'm very excited about returning to Turf Moor - if you don't go to matches then that obviously wont apply to you. Our brand of football, whatever that means, must be central to the club's massive achievements.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 12:04 pmTo be fair Taio i find it difficult to stay positive about the club.

Well! if a 6th straight season in the PL doesn't excite you as a Burnley fam then nothing will, would you prefer us to return to the grim days of taking trips to Crewe and Rochdale, yes sometimes we play pragmatically, but that's only because of the quality we regularly encounter in the harsh environment of the PL.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 12:04 pmTo be fair Taio i find it difficult to stay positive about the club.

And if you really think the football or recruitment would improve should we drop to the Championship, I'd suggest you're in for a rude awakening if such an event happened.
I do agree we should take the cup competitions more seriously. and that's one aspect of Sean Dyche's tenure that frustrates me, but it's a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things considering the success we've enjoyed over the past decade.
Just enjoy the ride well it lasts, as it probably won't continue forever.

Read somewhere that Lookman is being offered around for 10m to Premier league clubs.
He will know Pope and JGB from his Charlton days. Get him signed up.

If that’s true, you could get Lookman & Yarmolenko for £12-£13m and we’d go in to next season a completely different prospect.

Olise (£8M) was the one, we really missed the boat. Pereira, Lookman, Nelson all available for around £10m. They aren't Dyche wingers, he would prefer Albrighton if given a choice.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 1:18 pmRead somewhere that Lookman is being offered around for 10m to Premier league clubs.

They want £25 - £30m for Pereria.
Unless you mean the Andreas version, in which case I wouldn’t pay £1m

He was decent for Fulham last year. Pace to burn, takes people on for fun, better stats than Dwight had last year.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 2:22 pmHe’s been a huge success since leaving Charlton hasn’t he? What was it he’s done that would encourage you to sign him?
Only 23. What's not to like?
Definitely a player to put fans on the edge of their seats.
Everton fans raved about his limited appearances and weren't happy with him being sold or limited to bit parts.
£22m player available for less than half.
Might not be a Dyche player as in playing two out and out wingers but would be a great signing for fans.

Maitland-Niles would be a belting signing if we can pull that one off. If the link on Twitter is genuine then we must have been given some encouragement from the players camp, negotiating a fee that suits us will prove difficult but he’d be a great long term signing

I think NZ currently third with Romania to play could well be on their way home come Thursday our time ? Neither will require a pre-season they will have been with international sides over the summer not sat on their backsides in Blackpool for a fortnight

As above especially Chris hes been at the Olympics which is a little more intense than a practice game v Oldham
Mat has also been in the Euro squad and could step straight back into the first team
I assume hes now back in training after his break

But perhaps a few week rest wouldn't hurt either.Dont forget last summer's very short break eventually caught up with a lot of players in the Premier league in terms of injury and fatigue. They're only human and will need a break and not thrown straight back in to the action.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Not sure what a Dyche type is, he's been very restricted with money to sign better younger players. This summer is as much a test of Dyche as it is Pace and co. I'd be disappointed if they gave him money and he once again went down the 30 year old tried and trusted route - we have enough of them.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I’d consider Lookman and Pereira as ‘flair’ types and can’t recall Dyche ever signing one, perhaps Defour to some degree.

Possibly so.
I thought Pereria did a fair bit of tracking back last year. I saw him in his own box a lot. Not so sure about Lookman as I watched him less.
It makes such a difference having players who can take men on. Dwight made such a difference yesterday alongside Charlie. Taking players on, pushing them up the pitch, creating chances, applying pressure.
We lacked any threat whatsoever first half. Second was very different but all down the left again. If Dyche can’t see the side would be better off if he had an attacking option down either flank, I’d be very surprised.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I think people really underestimate the number of factors that recruitment teams look for in players. It’s completely over simplifying things to say that signing a player like Lookman (using him as an example) is a ‘no-brainer’. The obvious factor to consider is his financial demands, but beyond that there will be a whole load of attributes that a club like ours will be looking for, and if enough of those boxes aren’t ticked then he wouldn’t be seriously considered.
We, as football fans, see what we see on the pitch. But we don’t really have the data to hand to make these things into such a black and white situation.
I’ve seen a number of people on here salivating about the prospect of us signing Cornet, for example. And I’m pretty sure the majority of these people won’t have seen anywhere near enough of this player to sensibly conclude that he’d be a great signing.
