Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
If we had someone like Tony Bloom we would also have big assets. Brighton have been able to do what we haven't and taken risks because they have a sugar daddy that can mop up the debt if needed.
Remember the season we both got promoted? They had borrowed so much to get in the promotion fight that they were sure to flop into ffp if they didn't get promoted.
Similar story to other clubs like Leeds and Aston Villa. These kinds clubs are in a different league to us with spending power despite having a worse track record in recent years.
It's only really because Brighton have underachieved so much that we tend to finish near them. They should be too ten by now with the money they've invested.

Snippets from this mornings gossip
Palace, Leeds and Newcastle waiting to hear on whether Connor Gallagher will be allowed to go out on loan
Newcastle also looking at Choudray and Barkley plus, of course, Willock
Brighton to bid for Edouard (Celtic)
Nobody else seems to be linked with Albrighton or Maitland-Niles
Christie still at Celtic

I think Christie would be an interesting option for us. Not sure he would play behind the striker but could possibly be a good option on the rightjojomk1 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 7:47 amSnippets from this mornings gossip

Clearly you had a go at someone who was just posting gossip (per thread title) and you got called out on it.
Better to shut up (imho).

Macca you nearly fell for it again, remember do not engage.
Remember mother always said if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.
Hope those contributing to the thread correctly continue to do so, it's good for a quick nip and see what's happening.

It hasn't effected us, providing you survive in the league, you're good. They got very very good value out of Propper, same as we did with Hendrick regardless of if they left on free transfers. Every club has dud signings, they have spent more than us but they've also got a squad worth more than ours if they need to sell.
You quoted our most expensive signings ever, and even that was 30m lost. Those are just Brighton’s departures this window and not even their biggest signings
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
We didnt pay 15m for Gibson, and we got more than 7m for him.
We probably broke even on him in the end.

We finished 7th...KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 11:23 pmWhat do you mean not much gained? What have we gained that they haven't? Surely the objective for both clubs is to just survive? they have achieved that, like us. As for wasted money, you're completely forgetting the players they've bought aren't suddenly worth nothing, they have over £150m in players to sell.
Let me know when they finish top 10
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Brighton ready to bid £20m for Eduard from Celtic as they search for a goal scorer…
Thought they already signed an Argentinian striker for £25m recently - jeez Potter surely HAS to deliver this year.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Nico Gonzalez went to Fiorentina in the end. Shame really, he's another striker that is great up until it comes to actually putting it in the net so would have been funny to see them go through another season of missing 99% of the chances they create.

I'm pretty confident (99.9%) we didn't spend anything close to 15 million on Gibson, a considerable amount of that fee was add on's none of which were met, it wouldn't surprise me if we broke even in terms of transfer feeKRBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 2:13 amGibson bought 15m, sold 7m

You don't win a trophy for finishing 7th though, more prize money sure. If we qualified for the Europa League, I'd agree with you.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 8:51 amWe finished 7th...

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
my point wasn't to make a comparison on the numbers, my point was we got great value out of Hendrick regardless of if he left on a free, providing we stay in the division and don't run up debts, it's fine to invest and staying in the division has to be deemed successful investment on the whole.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 8:41 amOh come on though. 65m down the pan?

History is history wether it was made last year or 21 years ago.
Next season, and what Burnley FC achieves in it, is all that matters now.
And as I have said before, pointing out the perceived failings of others does nothing to improve our situation.
Stop looking at Brighton!!

If Jones is fit he’d be a great back up signing.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I don’t know what his fitness / time available for selection is like these days, but let’s not forget that last season we had Long and Dunne playing for us at the back, on occasion.
I’d have Jones in as a decent back up option ahead of those two any day of the week.

Jones hasn't played a PL game since our match at OT when we won. Two PL games in the last two seasons.

Long was is and never will be premier standard.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I could see Phil Jones doing a job in right midfield for us. It's only a short distance to the touchline where he could take on fluids after chuntering from our 18 yard box to the halfway line and back a few times.
He's just what we're looking for in a wide man.

I'd imagine with the contract he's on United would have to literally pay someone to take Jones.

Nixon suggesting we’re really struggling to get a wide player in and Dyche is “simmering” and will soon be “growling”.
I imagine Garlick is chuckling at this point.
