Did Phillips not spend a year playing abroad?NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 10:11 amIf we’re banking on a 20 year old with no Prem experience to replace Tarkowski, I’ll be worried. Collins looks like a good signing but one for the future and possibly RB cover first. If Tarks is off I think we need someone more experienced- not even sure Phillips ticks that box really.

Wages are £50-60k a week apparently, so we'd potentially have to break our wage structure.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 9:37 amOrigi is available for between 6-8m.
Is he worth a punt?
There's a good player in there, who can score.
Problem is he doesn't do it frequently enough, but that's not helped by not getting a massive amount of mins up front.

I don't think 50-60k would break our wage structure, I think we may already be in the region.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 10:31 amWages are £50-60k a week apparently, so we'd potentially have to break our wage structure.

Didn’t know that. Just seen he played 22 Bundesliga games season before last, so more experienced than I thought.
I think if we lost Tarks but signed Phillips and Collins, we’d have a weaker first team but stronger squad. Not that we could consider that a bad outcome or unexpected given the circumstances. Two very good signings.

We are, but to entice him to join us we'd have to offer more than that.
I'm not against it for the right player, but then it trickles down.
Our captain is out of contract next year I think, so he'd want parity I suspect especially as he's proven how key he is to our defence.
Then those below him would also want decent rises etc.
I'm not sure Origi is worth it

Origi a great player for a smaller club? Do you mean a bit like Jordon Ibe & Dominic Solanke at Bournemouth?burnley007 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 9:39 amHe would be a great player for a smaller club than Liverpool, but he will be on big wages I would assume. I would guess West Ham or abroad.

Completely different kind of signing for me.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:07 amOrigi a great player for a smaller club? Do you mean a bit like Jordon Ibe & Dominic Solanke at Bournemouth?
They were buying potential with Ibe and Solanke neither of them had ever really played for Liverpool.
I think in general origi has performed well for Belgium and when called upon for Liverpool
For around 6-8m I think it would be good business.

It's easier to be an impact sub or perform for limited performances than it is to be consistent over the duration of a season.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:13 amCompletely different kind of signing for me.

We've seen it last season when Wood went through that rough patch, but then pulled himself out of it.
Origi has made 100 league appearances in 7 years and scored 19 league goals.
Yes hes popped up with some crucial goals in big finals etc, but his best league season at Liverpool was 7 goals in 34 appearances in 16-17
If we were shipping out Barnes or Jay then maybe Origi would be worth a punt, but he ain't shifting Wood anytime soon, maybe not even Vydra.

I don't think a 1 in 5 striker for £6-8m is that OTT to be honest. Wood was £15m and has become a one in three, but you'd say to buy a guaranteed 1 in 3 striker now would be closer to £25m.
I'd be happy to bet on Origi scoring 10 goals next season for us were we to sign him.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
That season of 34 appearances was 14 starts and 20 sub appearances. Certain players that are used as impact subs can look worse than they are - 7 goals in those circumstances isn't too bad.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:26 amIt's easier to be an impact sub or perform for limited performances than it is to be consistent over the duration of a season.

I'd take Origi. He's a handful and is still relatively young at 26(I think).

Not only played for them but has been caretaker manager I think three times. Started and ended his playing career at Bolton. Nat Phillips started at Bolton and was in the academy with his dad in charge.

Not sure we can carry that with the financial reality tbh, and we are not Liverpool and won't have the amount of games that they play (based on our normal cup runs!)minnieclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:54 amThat’s what Liverpool thought last season. 5 would be better.

You are probably correct, financially. Liverpool seemed to lose VVD, Gomez and Matip over a very short period of time, moved Henderson back to CB and lost him. Scary if that were to happen to us.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:57 amNot sure we can carry that with the financial reality tbh, and we are not Liverpool and won't have the amount of games that they play (based on our normal cup runs!)

I must admit I’m not keen on Phillips , he’s 24 and has barely played any professional football. This is the type of signing I would compare to Ibe and Solanke, very little professional football and large fee

Strikers need to play regularly, and in a regular position. Just look at Lingard at WHU, and even Chris Wood.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:26 amIt's easier to be an impact sub or perform for limited performances than it is to be consistent over the duration of a season.

The question for me isn't, is Origi good enough ? He is. Rather would he suit our style of play ? That's debatable, but for 6-8mill worth a punt.
I doubt we'd get him for that as there are bound to be more interested parties.

Of all the centre backs we've been linked with, Phillips looks the best for me. If we were fortunate to get him and Collins, I would definitely start Phillips ahead of Collins, perhaps see if Collins can push for Lowts spot.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 12:12 pmI must admit I’m not keen on Phillips , he’s 24 and has barely played any professional football. Jimmy Dunne is a bit of an enigma to me. Got rave reviews from Dons fans when in Scotland and I expected him to kick on, but all the loan spells after that were backwards. He could hardly get on the pitch in a struggling Sunderland side, and their fans, that I know, thought he was a donkey.

It’s an interesting one, I thought he looked ok when he played us. However, I also saw him look very very poor on a couple of occasions. Obviously he will be playing in a much different set up with a lot of protection with us, but I just don’t see it if I’m honest. He looks clumsy and slow.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 12:18 pmOf all the centre backs we've been linked with, Phillips looks the best for me. Hopefully I’m wrong and he was just having an off day.
My main concern is just the lack of playing time Phillips has had at 24 years old. For the rumoured 15m fee it will take to sign him surely there has got to be better available.
However I will say I really rate Collins, think he could be a star for us.

Burnley being linked with a move for Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite by Diario Sport
https://twitter.com/sport/status/140766 ... 55432?s=21
https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/ ... m-11850412
Martin Braithwaite may be one of Barça's surprise sales this summer. The footballer already knows through his environment that he must leave the Blaugrana club yes or yes after the signings of Depay and Kun Agüero and his first intention was to try to fight for a place in the squad, but Barça has already told him that no will have minutes. The Eurocup has been a good showcase for the Danish and up to four English clubs have already asked about Braithwaite's situation, although an offer that comes from Russia may also be being studied.
Braithwaite signed for Barça in February 2020 and after an injury crisis. The Blaugrana club paid the 18 million euros of its termination clause, although the club always made it clear that it would be an emergency solution and that a way out should be sought in the future. The pandemic made its transfer impossible last summer despite the fact that there were also transfer proposals and this year should be the final one. The clear objective of the club is to recover a good part of the 18 million euros invested.
The Danish attacker is having a good European Championship, where he starts with Denmark despite playing more heeled at the winger position. His performance has been excellent and several English clubs believe that it may be a good signing opportunity. West Ham, Brighton, Burnley and the recently promoted Norwich are on the prowl, but Barça have also opened a negotiating channel with a Russian club that can bear fruit as long as the Dane accepts the operation.

If we get Collins and Phillips/Worrall in, whilst also keeping Tarky till his contract expires (for me, a better option than £10m or so, if that is the alternative) then that is a fantastic start to business!
If we show the same enthusiasm a bit further forward down the pitch in the rest of the window to that, I would be beyond delighted. I thought pre window we needed four in and I stand by that (two centre backs, a right winger and another central midfield option).

I agree. If we go in to next season with successors to Mee and Tarks on the bench, we’ll be a lot stronger and the chances of survival much higher. I’d keep Tarks for what we’d get though.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 3:17 pmIf we get Collins and Phillips/Worrall in, whilst also keeping Tarky till his contract expires (for me, a better option than £10m or so, if that is the alternative) then that is a fantastic start to business!

I agree about needing to strengthen in attacking positions too. I’d say 2x wingers needed over a central midfielder though. Only on the basis of having 4 midfielders (if you count Stephen’s) and 2 wingers currently though - neither situation is ideal.

I wished Clubcall on teletext still existed for their take on this storyRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:03 pmBurnley being linked with a move for Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite by Diario Sport

Spent a small fortune on Clubcall in the late 80's/early 90's. Drawn in by 'exciting news' which they'll bring you in just a few moments. Only to find out, eventually; it really wasn't worth waiting for.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 3:42 pmWith the 1st £5 spent on being welcomed to Turf Moor the home of Burnley Football Club by Jimmy Mullen
