First to report BPF to Wednesday, Collins to Burnley and Hennessey.

Coincidentally some of the same set also had Newcastle for the drop last season until about 10 games of the season left & I’d never seen minds change so fast, when Newcastle got a few of the big hitters firing & strung some decent results together as some posters wisely predicted what was bound to happen.

Burnley finished the season as one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the PL along with Sheffield United and Fulham.
Almost totally reliant on Chris Wood for goals Sean Dyche has far more concerns at that end of the pitch than Viera as things stand at the moment, especially when our leading scorer could be missing for 6/8 weeks of the campaign.

99% of the customers won’t be backing palace or us to get relegated, lots of people will see palace with a new manager & effectively part of a new team & think relegation & back them to be relegated, well the same thing happened with FDB I think it took them ages to even win 1 & there was in a far worse position than they are now & still stopped up, parish would do the same thing & get rid of Vieira if the same thing was to happen again, like I say have a bet if you think it’s a good bet I’ll leave it alone.

U23s play a 442, same as the first team.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:34 pm
He normally plays CM when he turns out for the development squad, in what is commonly a five man midfield. In their games he has shown the same traits that he did against Blackpool, but he can be reliant on others to provide the raw physicality that he currently lacks.
I wouldn't say Mancini is lacking in physicality compared to the other midfielders in the U23s, he's certainly no weaker than Benson and he's the more aggressive player of the two as well.
Could he hold his own in the EPL? It's hard to say until he's given a chance. He didn't look to struggle with the physicality against Blackpool or Oldham, and Neil Critchley commented on how the game was more competitive than an average friendly.
I'm not advocating he start or be a serious option for wide midfield though but I'd say he could take Benson's place in the squad. A loan at League 1 or Championship level would be ideal though.

Burnley are currently disputing favouritism or outright favourites (depending on bookmaker) to finish 4th from bottom as happened last season.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 5:07 pm99% of the customers won’t be backing palace or us to get relegated, lots of people will see palace with a new manager & effectively part of a new team & think relegation & back them to be relegated, well the same thing happened with FDB I think it took them ages to even win 1 & there was in a far worse position than they are now & still stopped up, parish would do the same thing & get rid of Vieira if the same thing was to happen again, like I say have a bet if you think it’s a good bet I’ll leave it alone.
The bookmakers therefore have us most at risk of dropping into the bottom 3 if one of the newly promoted sides exceeds market expectations.

Perhaps more a sign of the times and the ridiculously huge fees for players…
Had I heard at the beginning of the window that we might spend £32 million on players in the summer, I’d have been delighted!
Would I be quite so delighted that the £32 million saw us bring in Maitland-Niles and Collins (plus a freebie keeper)? I’m not so sure.
To be fair, should Maitland-Niles sign for us, both may prove to be great additions. I suppose I might have expected a bit more for those sort of sums.
I really can’t see us improving other areas if we do spend that sort of money.

With our history of giving loanees game time, it makes no sense in bringing in a loan RB where we have Lowton, Bardsley and potentially Collins already in that position

Absolutely. Would have to dig through and can’t really be bothered but fairly sure an Irish journalist broke Collins initially and he’s just followed that on this summer and got lucky. Similar strategy with Worrall that hasn’t worked (yet).CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 4:04 pmNicolo Schira broke Hennessey. Nixon just followed along.
Can’t remember the original BPF source but he then linked him to Bournemouth and Birmingham shortly before he signed for Wednesday. He clearly just hedges his bets.
The Albrighton & Cornet links looking tenuous also.

Roughly £10m in so far this summer from the sales of Gibson, Dunne and now Benson, with £12m or so out on Collins. ( Yes I am aware of payments made over time etc, etc; these are purely back of a fag packet numbers ) With nothing at all spent in January, are the new owners really only going to spend around £2m nett over their first 2 windows in charge ?

You forget the wages saved on Brady & Gibson among others.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 6:52 pmRoughly £10m in so far this summer from the sales of Gibson, Dunne and now Benson, with £12m or so out on Collins. So to summarise
In
Collins.
Hennessey
Out
Benson (gone to Barnsley)
Brady (end of contract)
Dunne (ditto gone to QPR)
Gibson (gone to Norwich)
Plus BPF & Jensen the 2 keepers who've both gone out on loan.
I've omitted the development squad players as they are unlikely to feature in the 1st team next season.
So on permanent deals that's 4 left, and only 2 thus far joined, so unless we're planning to promote some of the youngsters there should be room for 2/3 more incomings for the 1st team squad surely, and we must have some wriggle room on salaries due to 2 of our higher earners leaving, if not then I truly fear it'll be a a long hard winter, and we are really playing Russian roulette with our hard earned PL place.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest we are not going to bring in any more players and plenty of indications that we definitely are going to strengthen the squad
It’s simply a case of waiting to see who they are

Let’s not to forget we’ve lost: Heaton, Lennon, Hendrick, Hart as well as Gibson & Brady in recent years. Thats 6 high earners and from memory we’ve added BPF (now on loan), Norris, Brownhill & Stephens?
Might be a bit wrong on exact timing/numbers but I’d be more than shocked if we haven’t created more than a bit of wriggle room!!

Maybe now our incoming targets will get more serious in terms of bids and the pace they go at, I can’t see anyone else leaving now from the first team , the only one would be Barnes for me if we got an offer for him which again is highly unlikely .

For balance talking about saved wages are we also allowed to include added incentives towards encouraging contractual extensions for the people that have decided to remain here or the money set aside for that, or is the simple picture being forget about that & that factor isn’t within any set budget.

If we could get a younger striker in his place, whether that's by buying, or from the development squad, then he's one I'd consider trying to hawk to interested Championship clubs, he's definitely lost something in his game over the last 18 months, and I'm not convinced he'll ever command a regular place in our starting XI again, but if we can't replace him then we'd be daft to let him go, especially as Wood might miss a fair few games post-Xmas.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 8:00 pmMaybe now our incoming targets will get more serious in terms of bids and the pace they go at, I can’t see anyone else leaving now from the first team , the only one would be Barnes for me if we got an offer for him which again is highly unlikely .

Defour -> Drinkwater -> Brownhill
Vokes -> Crouch -> Rodriguez
Hendrick -> Stephens
Ward -> Pieters
Heaton -> Bailey Peacock-Farrell
Hart - > Hennessey
Anders Lindegaard -> Will Norris
Gibson -> Collins
Nahki Wells
Adam Legzdins
Aaron Lennon
Robbie Brady
The first thing that stands out is the reduction in quality and the second is the difference between the wages that were likely earned by those who have left and the wages the new arrivals could expect. For instance BPF shouldn't be earning the same as Heaton was and Hennessey could be expected to command less than Hart.
Taking that into account, along with the diminished overall numbers and it is hard to fathom why our wage bill is soaring ever skyward.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
No, they don't. That might be because they lack numbers and depth in respect to strikers and wingers. Richardson is an attacking midfielder and the development squad play him as one. The main formation they used last year was 4-2-3-1 with a lot of traffic going through the middle.
The recruitment for the development squad is almost as shambolic as the recruitment for the first team. We have jettisoned a huge number of players and brought very few in.
Most of the players who were signed in response to the first big exodus in the 19/20 season were quickly shown the door the year after. Phillips and Mumbongo are the only notable survivors. Ogunby, Cooney, Senior, Kouame and Calderbank-Park have all gone.
Then we had another massive clear out in 20/21 and we brought in Taranis, Barrett, Richter, Elva-Fountaine and Diallo who have been let go. We kept hold of Rickard, Mancini, Nartey, Costello, Dodgson and Patterson.
How many of those will make the next cut ?
The retention is a lot better in the U18's, but we have only added 15 players over the last 3 seasons, mostly from other clubs. I'm guessing that Harry Moss and Trevon Bryan are the two AiScout candidates.
15 players sounds like a lot, but not when you take into account all of the players we have moved on and the fact that the U 18's have been used to fill the huge gaps left in the U 23's by all those who have left. And yet every season we have another massive cull, with a small number of new incomings. The problem is that we no longer have nobody left to move up into the U 23's and while the squad looks complete it doesn't give us much room to send players out on loan. To say nothing of the heightened injury risk of playing young boys against much older lads. The top teams can get away with that, because they have players with more technical ability, but when you depend on hard graft and a combative style of play the injuries are going to be more frequent.
Now, obviously, not everyone is going to work out. However, the short term revolving door pattern that we are seeing doesn't say a lot for our scouting and future planning. The quality appears to be a slightly better, because we seem to be signing a few cast offs from the big clubs. I'm guessing the thinking behind that is that if Leicester, Everton or Man Utd saw something in a young player they must have something and the time spent in their academies will have built on that.
It makes scouting easy, been with a big club, sign on here. However, we still need to bring in the numbers and those clubs didn't let them go because they were great players. They see them week in and week out so they rarely make mistakes. Dwight was one, but they released him very very early, by the age of 17-18 most clubs have a very good idea of who is worth keeping and who needs to be let go.
If we really want to develop Premier League or Championship players we can't just rely on the free scraps that fall from the tables of the other clubs. That isn't going to be enough to refresh an aging squad in the next 2-3 years and pay off our massive debts.

They play an absolute 4-4-2.
Clone of the first team.
Richardson did play a couple of games in a deeper position though.

I think every Premier league team, has its junior teams playing as per the 1st team..... Doubt we're any different

Let me guess Nixon blocked you on Twitter?NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 6:39 pmAbsolutely. Would have to dig through and can’t really be bothered but fairly sure an Irish journalist broke Collins initially and he’s just followed that on this summer and got lucky. Similar strategy with Worrall that hasn’t worked (yet).
Can’t remember the original BPF source but he then linked him to Bournemouth and Birmingham shortly before he signed for Wednesday. He clearly just hedges his bets.
The Albrighton & Cornet links looking tenuous also.
Nixon broke the Collins story in January, he said Bournemouth, Sheff Wed and Birmingham were either interested or in for BPF.
I don't know how you don't understand that reporting we are interested in signing Albrighton is different from saying Albrighton has signed for Burnley. He's mentioned we are interested in Albrighton and Cornet but we are struggling to fund the deals.

You’re kidding right? Have you seen the grass, it’s looking lovely. Nixon spot on as always.

I tried looking at an Arsenal forum to get their opinions on AMN. Those who had their head screwed on right mention 20m is a fair price and they are happy to sell for that money.
Some think he's bobbins. Some don't want to lose him.
Some think he's a right back, but apparently he personally prefers CM. They think we'll play him right midfield.
If he views himself as a central midfielder I'm not sure it's a good idea planning to play him out wide. Might be too similar to Brownhill or Hendrick playing there.
I'd prefer a natural winger, and don't like the idea of seeing Brownhill pushed out wide.
Since 20m is going to be such a large part of our budget I hope we get this one right.
