You'll be relieved to see I didnt say he was a bad signing then. I said he was a signing that didnt come off, and theres an important difference IMO. A player can be signed for very sensible reasons (eg those you cite for Gibson, or the risk reward equation I'm observing Dyche seems to take a cautious view of) but not come off. My point, in fact was that if Dyche is reluctant to make those signings it may not be in the long term interests of the club. We may not be able afford to pay the money that ensures that every player we sign will definitely come off.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 7:26 pm
Sorry but I’m sick of reading that Gibson was a bad signing. He wasn’t. He was signed because Ben Mee was holding out and if Mee had left he would have done well for us. The fact that Mee got the deal he wanted and kept our two CBs together was not Gibson’s fault. His behaviour subsequently was poor but we have got our money back so let’s move on from him.

They probably mean £1.30 per Cornetto to stock up the stand kiosks.

How much would a Cornet with a twix in it cost?

It's almost as if as the first team gets better it become more difficult and more expensive to buy players that will improve it.
It would be alarming if we were selling our best players without replacing them.

The first team has stayed pretty much the same for 4 years hasn't it?
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Pretty much. And that's because better players cost more than we've been willing or able to pay.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 9:35 pmThe first team has stayed pretty much the same for 4 years hasn't it?

So after everything that’s been said previously a couple of weeks ago about the disarray with people leaving right left & centre & where we are now seems to be completely different, but let’s forget any reminders & not discuss them

If the first team was getting better we wouldn't have finished 7 places lower in the PL table than the previous season and finished as one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the division (the other 2 teams were relegated). We ended the season with a whimper losing our last 3 matches without scoring. Our head to head record against the teams around us in the table was very poor also.

I don’t wish to discuss them because I’m not jealous of another team’s recruitment, I’d rather discuss what’s happening here.

Take a look back at the Dyche to Palace thread that grew like Topsy on here and you will probably find the answer.
Umpteen posts saying that Dyche would be crazy to go to Palace because they faced a "massive rebuilding job".
Naturally people are now interested in how this "massive rebuilding job" is taking shape.

Apart from a right winger and possibly someone in central midfield do we need players in defence or elsewhere that would improve the team much?

Sounds as if there will be a “piece” from Nixon tomorrow on who our next target will be now that we know Albrighton isn’t coming, I’m going to guess at him saying we’ve turned our attention to Ryan Christie of Celtic and/or Jozwiak of Derby

I’m reminding certain posters of what’s been said & what later happens, certain posters on here know absolutely nothing & pretty much everything posted is diarrhoea, whilst certain posters on here are extremely knowledgeable & pretty much everything that’s posted happens & comes true.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
It's not that hard to understand. We've pretty much hit a ceiling in terms of quality of first team squad members relative to the budget we have available and we hit that ceiling a few seasons ago. This was illustrated by the Gibson and Vydra signings who were at the top of our budget and weren't of any higher quality than the players in the team.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 10:26 pmIf the first team was getting better we wouldn't have finished 7 places lower in the PL table than the previous season and finished as one of the 3 lowest scoring teams in the division (the other 2 teams were relegated). Admittedly, now we have a couple of holes in the squad it should be easier to improve it and I'm pretty confident that will happen by the end of this window.

Sorry to burst your bubble about the season just gone, but just checked the last three games for the five consecutive seasons we've been in the Premier league and we have an abysmal record pretty much every year once we are safe.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 30, 2021 10:26 pmWe ended the season with a whimper losing our last 3 matches without scoring.
If you combine the 15 matches we have a grand total of six points.

No idea how reliable that account is, however I could well believe that wages are once again a stumbling block, can't we find ways around that, large signing on bonus for instance.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
You'd have thought before making a bid his agent would have given the club some encouragement.

I’ve said previously I’m concerned that he is only £20m. He had such a great start as a youngster earning 5 England caps and his career has stalled. I hope Arsenal don’t know something we don’t.

He runs around alot that's about all really sorry and can cover multiple positions. Nothing creative just hard work tbh.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The obligatory YouTube compilation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dORR15COvIg
Can see why Dyche would be keen, looks very versatile. Also in the 2019/20 season he was the seventh fastest player in the Premier League which is something we're crying out for.
Interestingly in this interview from a couple of years ago he describes himself as a midfielder but would like to become winger - maybe that's the carrot we're dangling in front of him to tempt him to move here.

Yep so he does want to be a winger. Like I mentioned before, he is an ideal fit for our system - versatile, dynamic, pacey. Hope that account is legit as he’d be a superb signing.

Dwight wants to play cm
Perhaps we play Collins at left back with Charlie in front at wide left.Push Matt Lowton up wide right and Phil Bardsley at right back
Who needs any signings weve got U23 players to cover on the bench
This football manager lark is easy

We’ve all seen posters disappear or not pass on info because of it. Even Tony can’t now because of the vitriol that follows.

Why not just let Man City have all the best players and the rest make do with whats left...Oh they already have...
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
He is very versatile. We may see this as filling 2 positions/covering 2 positions with one player which is more cost effective. Wages need to be covered by signing on fees with players. If we are too rigid we are going to be shopping in a very narrow pool.
