Young would have been yet another short term fix. We need to start thinking a bit longer term and freshening the squad up with some younger legs.
We need to be doing both and he looked an outstanding short term fix.

Oh, missed that. Bloody hell, very good signing then. Think he’ll do the business for them - a younger, quicker Vardy.
Looking like they are signing Eduoard from Celtic aswell.

They will have some front four: Vardy, Ihenacho, Eduoard and Daka

We can look all we want but 99% of the time players of his calibre are well out of our reach the only reason this was a runner was because of the age & the risk attached with that.
We always think players are out of our reach but we shouldn’t give up!

My reading of the Mirror story is he was keen and impressed. Must mean we offered something attractive be that okay wages, or he liked the manager, how we’re planning to develop, etc. Hopefully a sign we’re now thinking more progressively but we do need more realistic targets in mind too.

Agreed. Nobody could complain at that signing given our current situation.

Not heard anything on Collins in last week or so but I’ve not heard anything about anyone else other than Young.

Ashley Young was an outstanding player but I’m really not too disappointed that we missed out on him.

I don’t think he’ll pull up any trees at Villa next season.

we are doing it wrong, we need to put bids in for crap players and let Villa "beat us" to those - then we go for the proper target :D

I'm never a fan of players signing for a last hurrah. That may be a generalisation and unfair on some pros, but I can't help but feel that is a good thing here. If you're hungry to play, you'll head to where the chances of that are best. If you're hungry for pay, then I assume you're quite happy to sit on your backside and watch PL football from the dugout.

That may not be the case with Ashley Young, we all know what the pull of a club can be like if you have associations with it, but my gut feeling is that Ashley Young will start and end the season on the bench at Villa. He may have a role in between, but with money and perhaps options being more at the manager's disposal than at Inter, he may find himself with the best seat in the house.

Ian Wright being an obvious exception, but there were even signs in his early days with us that we may not see much of him due to fitness etc. That said, I will never forget his goal against Notts County...

I think we need to take a few gambles on players abroad cheap players with potential, there’s no easy formula everybody would be doing it if there was, it’s easy & it’s a common belief that dyche only goes for a certain type of players but truth be told the targets probably fall within budget requirements & if more money was available the players targeted could be different, he goes for what we can afford.

He goes for players he believes will fit into the dressing room. One mistake and one bad apple could destroy everything.

Granted that’s true to a certain degree, drinkwater & Gibson never upset the harmony there never stopped around for long enough, bamford let’s not go there please, he does make mistakes but he’s quick to rectify them.

Yeah I mean don't get me wrong guys, I'm not knocking our achievements. I'm just saying its not going to help us when we have a few more teams to play twice in a season are able to prize our potential signings away from us. Not only because we then don't make those signings, but they can also be used against us.

Look at Dawson for example.

in the last 5 years, Brighton have the 11th highest net spend in the whole of Europe. Only Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, Aston Villa, Everton, Inter, PSG, Barcelona, Man United and Man City have spent more than them.

They've spent approximately 90 million more than Bayern Munich, 130 million more than Liverpool and 170 million more than Real Madrid

Article here: https://www.90min.com/posts/european-cl ... -barcelona
Fingers crossed they finally go down this season... that'd surely nobble them for years

Our scouring system has been very weak ,this may change with the use of the new technology by our Chairman but eyes on is still a proven approach.

Given they have wealthy owners I don’t think it would make any difference at all.

They would probably spend 100m and be promoted again straight away.

Its about personal opinions and free speech you dont have to agree.
I wasn't abusing you, your opinion is fine but it's wrong, Knight doesn't own Brighton and Van Aanholt doesn't play CM.

I read this yesterday: https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/t ... y-20840210

Thought I'd post as I've seen plenty of mention of Nathan Collins but very little of Harry Souttar. According to this article, we're interested in both of the Stoke City centre backs.

Regarding Brighton and Potter

I don't think the achievements he has done merit the praise he gets, especially considering what they spend, but they also comfortably avoid the drop on a regular basis, while playing a pleasing style.

Now if they could only score some goals, they would actually be a very good side

and is into them for over £400m now of which around £90m is shares the rest is in loans, last November they factored future TV revenues for £37m to take some pressure off Bloom - his only chance of getting that money back is via a sale of the club, it is possible that at their current growth rate a match between what he has put into the club and what he could get from a sale could be achievable in 5 years, but that will require a move to profit. The biggest headache that could face them and limit their growth is the council's reluctance to allow expansion of the stadium, which has to do with modes of travel. The council is effectively demanding that thousands of fans use bikes to get to and from the ground, as you would expect very few do.

That’d be a fair old bike ride, for your average football fan, if you lived in Brighton or further west in Hove.

Uphill all the way. They'd have to start timing kick offs to coincide with the wind direction changing with the tide.

Very much my own thinking re Ashley Young. Villa may be offering a few more pounds, but he'd surely have been getting much more time on the pitch at Burnley. Depending on how much Villa shell out in the next few weeks on other transfers he could be shunted to the margins before a ball is even kicked and may never return from there. I would have been happy to see him come to us as part of a bigger rebuilding picture, but his decision smacks more of money (which he surely can't be short of) rather than a desire to be involved on the pitch. Having said that, we'll see once things get underway.

Thought I'd post as I've seen plenty of mention of Nathan Collins but very little of Harry Souttar. According to this article, we're interested in both of the Stoke City centre backs.
I have seen this a few times on different sites... We'll probably end up with the less talented, older and cheaper one out of the two!

How do you know we haven't
I don't, hence the word "seemingly". I truly hope we have - you heard a whisper ?

I do think Ashley Young would've been an astute signing for his experience and versatility. Slightly frustrated he didn't sign but early days in the window yet. Onwards and upwards.

Robin Quiason just won a penalty for Sweden against Slovakia, came off the bench for the final 30 mins. Free agent isn’t he now?
