I think it’d be a poisoned chalice for Dwight, going to Villa to fill Grealish’s boots.

According to the Evening Standard, James Tarkowsky has decided to stay with us for another year and see out his contract. Other offers were way off the mark from what he expected.

I think this idea of players running down their contracts and then being totally free to pick and choose their next move will and is becoming increasingly popular. Only a few years ago when Ings did it, it was quite unusual, but the appeal to players I think is growing as it means they don't have to go where basically the selling club can get the best deal, their options are limitless and they can boost their wages and signing on fees significantly as there's no fee to pay. It may even start to affect transfer fees at some point.

Like everything else its a gamble. JT stays and wrecks a knee next March he risks losing everything. Unlikely yes but its just one Norman Hunter tackle away.

If a PL club decide they need an experienced good central defender and they fancy Tarkowski I still think he’ll be off if the offer is right. The noises from the club that he is happy to see out his contract if such an offer doesn’t come is encouraging especially as there now seems a proven plan in place with Collins.

Players are already free to choose where they go, just because you have a bid accepted doesn't mean the player has to go.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 8:54 amI think this idea of players running down their contracts and then being totally free to pick and choose their next move will and is becoming increasingly popular. Think I'd prefer to sell him tbh than risk him being less than 100% invested in the team. We need total commitment in our team ethos.

Certainly was evidence of that with Ings , not so sure with Hendrick. Maybe depends on the player’s characterStevie Morgan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 10:43 amThink I'd prefer to sell him tbh than risk him being less than 100% invested in the team. We need total commitment in our team ethos.

I see Arsenal are looking at selling Rob Holding now they’re buying Ben White from Brighton. Perhaps he could be our man if Tarks is off after us showing an interest in him before

I know we have followers who voiced their opinion on here re Lundstram , however I think he is the closest I have seen to Scotty Arfield. He could play wide right, very determined and athletic and will probably get you more goals than our current midfielders. A good injury free record and the potential to play wide or centrally. He is also free and on a relatively low wage. If he did not always start he would strengthen our bench which has been by far the weakest in the PL. Being a good friend of Wilder I am sure SD could call him to check out JL

Yes, I get that, but their options are limited by the clubs willing to meet the seller's valuation and if the player doesn't fancy any of the suitors and chooses to stay put (as you say) he knows that his club was actually willing and happy to sell him which then puts him under pressure.claretandy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 9:35 amPlayers are already free to choose where they go, just because you have a bid accepted doesn't mean the player has to go.

I can.
Dyche has known Tarks is going for a long while, yet he didn't let us down last season and put in a great effort, once he got over his poorly toe.
I like Lowts, but if we can get a season, or half a season, of Collins playing right back, alongside Tarks, then it will help him massively when he has to fill his boots.

It’s a situation which needs resolving in my view, he’s clearly committed but unwilling to commit past a certain point, it’ll be very interesting to see when/if an acceptable offer comes in whether the club will resist or JT will get itchy feet or perhaps both, it’s a situation in development & something in waiting, the situation as changed with Collins signing the need to keep JT isn’t what it was, especially if a big offer comes in & you risk losing that & allowing him to leave for free.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 12:12 pmYes, I get that, but their options are limited by the clubs willing to meet the seller's valuation and if the player doesn't fancy any of the suitors and chooses to stay put (as you say) he knows that his club was actually willing and happy to sell him which then puts him under pressure.

I’m sure Tarks has far too much respect for Dyche for it to effect his attitude or performance. Nor would I expect Dyche to tolerate it if he did.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 12:39 pmTarks has history remember. He forced his move from Brentford to us.
But more than anything else, he’ll be playing to secure the biggest possible contract elsewhere, and an outside chance of a place in the WC squad (very outside if Southgate is still in charge), so under performing would not be in his best interests at all.

Can see him staying a year, seeing how we fare, but leaving as a free agent, maybe to a mid table side (or back up in a mid table side), but on one good last contract for him. By the way I think in his last year he will continue to give us 100%

I've no problem with players staying for the full length of their contracts. If they do well, Collins for example, there's a good chance we'll still be in the Premier league and any Sky TV deal money will be far in excess of any transfer fee we might get for a player during that time.

if we stay up we wont lose out on Tarks, realistically we may only get 15-20 million at a push for him now. By the time we pay Brentford their percentage it's not worth selling him in the grand scheme of things.Spijed wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 4:00 pmI've no problem with players staying for the full length of their contracts. I have no issues with him leaving for free. When we look back at this time, head and shoulders above them down’t road, he will be considered more than an integral part of this success. He has been fantastic for Burnley FC, and Burnley FC has been fantastic for him, as with Kieran Trippier, Danny Ings and Michael Keane among others, before him.
Good luck to him.
Good luck to him.

Unless a massive offer comes in for him, it’s likely keeping him to help us secure another season in the prem is worth far more than than whatever reduced fee we might receive minus Brentford’s cut, then paid in instalments over X years.
Plus we get the pleasure of watching him play for us for another season, which is all I care about really,

That’s true, but it makes things more worthwhile when you’ve got an happy employee with a smile on his face going about his business, in all fairness he’s wanted out for abit & his conduct during that time as been fine, I’m not sure if it’s the right way of going about things keeping unhappy players instead of cashing in, maybe identifying suitable replacements & offloading early could be more preferable but probably easier said than done in theory.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 5:07 pmTotally agree.

So the going commentary is that we are indeed in for Nat Phillips. First we tried for a loan and LFC weren’t playing around with that. There is growing belief we will get him. If we meet their valuation (somewhere around £15m) for a 5th string CB who did have a quite decent season in the Prem, who I have every confidence Dyche could turn into a superstar....does that indicate that winger is where we are going to look for a loan... I know Pace has said that we plan on being busy but... good grief, Burnley spending close to £45m plus in one window (I’m assuming a decent winger is going to come from somewhere around 9-15m. 9 if we rob the henhouse that is DCFC) is that realistic without significant departures. I know we will be compensated for Dunne and Richter was sold for an undisclosed fee, I know we have a lot more clearance on our wage bill but do we really think we will have that significant of a splash of cash?

I would expect that the only way we will sign another centre back this summer is if Tarkowski is on his way. Centre mid and wide right are now the key areas for starters
We have nobody across the middle with pace either to get forward quickly or, just as important, to get back
Far too often last season opposing teams were breaking quickly on us and both Westwood and Cork no longer have the pace in the legs to get back in time - same applies to JBG and McNeil

We have gaps in the squad, we've had 5 players that I can recall leave for free from the first team squad in the last 12 months, 2 wingers, CM, CB and GK.
That's a lot of wages and some of those we need really to fill.
For the ALK business model to work, right now it requires Dyche, PL football and PL revenue.
I know they've said relegation isn't an issue, but it would be a step back.
Transfer fees are generally been paid over the duration of the players first contract, so we aren't going to be coughing up a large amount of money up front.
This summer they're clearly making a statement of intent by getting the lad in from Stoke so early on and it would appear they're busy trying to get more over the line.
We had fans having a tantrum because we had a quiet January, but ALK barely had a chance to get their feet under the table, this is them showing they're ready to go.

I’d say that depends on how much of these deals are paid up front (feasible only ~£9m-£12m is) and whether AP/ALK have been able to raise funding from other sources since the takeover. Basically none of us know. I’d say that a quick winger is more important than another CH as things stand though (unless Tarks is off)!WiscoClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 5:48 pmSo the going commentary is that we are indeed in for Nat Phillips. 9 million for Gibson
25 million minus 5 to Brentford for Tark say
And the 7ish million bonus from Norwich and Watford coming back up and it's more like about 6 million net spend if they spend anything like 45 million, but at least we are spending
