Where’s the shame in going to Saudi Arabia to earn more money? Let’s not pretend anyone on here would do any different.

He’s probably sending most of it back home to support his family.

Good luck to him.

Why the presumption that we're ALL shallow empty-headed money grubbers?

Ive taken many decisions in my life based on fulfillment rather than pure financial gain, and I believe I'm a happier more rounded person for it.

As have several of my friends. You're welcome to your sad little view of the world, but don't pin it on everyone else.

No amount of money could get me to move to Saudi Arabia so lets not be tarring everyone with the same brush.

I don't think I could cope playing football in the Saudi heat.
10 minutes having a kick about on Magaluf beach was enough for me.

Matheus Pereira complete's his move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, what a waste of a talent. All about the money
So?
No difference to the likes of Oscar grabbing the money in China whilst it was there and he was more than good enough to walk into a number of top teams across Europe, yet he's earning £550k a week now which he wouldn't get over in Europe.

How arrogant of others to think they know what’s better for Pereira and his family than they do.

I too have made career choices based on fulfilment than financial gain. I’ve had friends in the same profession move to the Middle East to make a lot of money. The lifestyle has never appealed to me. But I wouldn’t look down my nose at someone for making a career move to significantly increase their earnings.

There’s no reason why a footballer should be judged differently. And this is Pereira we’re talking about, a pretty average player who has recently been relegated with West Brom. I bet he can’t believe his lucky stars if someone wants to pay him £150,000 every week.

There aren’t any…

The word discussion is in the title so it’s a bit tedious when people keep trying to stifle it.

You also have to take into account that if a club in Britain pays you £50,000 or even £150,000 a week you'll never see anything like that kind of money after tax and deductions. In certain other countries, you'll see far, far more of it.

Start a thread specifically for Burnley transfer rumours then. Just don’t expect it to be on the front page of the board this time tomorrow.

Agree aren’t most transfers though for a player it’s mainly maximise your earnings whilst you are at your best & in demand it’s a short lived career. I think some of the league standards will improve overseas if they continue to throw the money about & attract the players & it’s 1 thing the Saudis aren’t short of.
The Chinese threw money around and their sides were still way behind the Japanese and Koreans in the AFC Champs League. Although the Evergrade side with Scolari as manager did manage to win it once.

Saw Jason Knight mentioned, again, earlier. This from a Derby fans meeting with Mel Morris.

Let’s not pretend anyone of us would do any different, (if we were in the position that Pereira is), likely supporting a family back home in Brazil.

We’re fortunate that we’ve been born in a first world country, and had the choices where monetary gain doesn’t have to be out primary focus.

Not everyone is so fortunate, and who are we to sneer.

At the end of your playing career though, what have got to show for it? You played with and against a load of players no one has heard of against teams no one can pronounce in front of a few thousand at some local sports centre.

It’s like signing for a team in Scotland
They have some good players, if they're still there that is. Bafetimbi Gomis, Giovinco, Carillo, Vietto, They just signed Marega from Porto on a free transfer, I'd have took him here.

Pereira won’t be a millionaire not sure why people think he is. However going to Saudi with the tax benefits would mean he and his kids will never have to work again.

If someone offered me the chance to do a considerably easier job and after 3-4 years never have to work again I would take it without a doubt.

However it is a shame as I thought he was fantastic last season and I’m sure he would have done well at somewhere like Everton

I’d imagine it would be quite difficult to be a premier league player today and not be a millionaire!

True but he’s not a premier league player.

He’s rumoured to be on 6k a week at West Brom. With paying tax in this country I doubt he is a millionaire. Very wealthy but not life changing money.

If that figure is true no wonder he wanted out of Baggies. He should also sack his agent.

I agree, certainly can't question his decision. However in some cases it is short sighted, if he went to Everton on £75-80k p/w, if he did well he could be at Man United in 2 years on 200k p/w. Climb the ladder kind of thing, gradual progression and rises in pay.

Living in the world where everything on the internet is true, then the 6k was his loan wage, once West Brom signed him permanently his wage has gone up to 40k.

If anyone thinks that a player can be signed for around the 8m mark, play in the Prem and his agent will agree to a 6k a week wage they should wear the gullible badge with pride.

Honestly don’t think we’re interested in an Ivorian LB playing in the French league. And even if we were, by all accounts wants to go to Berlin over us.

Hertha Berlin similar to us in that they're trying to bring in several players on a budget. According to German media the other week Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic was their main priority target so aren't going to deviate too much from what's already been offered. Unless they give up on Kostic and go big on Cornet.

So we've wasted weeks chasing Cornet, who apparently doesn't even want to join us, while other possible targets might have slipped away during that time, it's the hope that kills you isn't it.

At this rate, it's nailed on Aaron Lennon signs a 1 year deal. Yet another embarrassing transfer window almost complete.

I would use the term groundhog day, but I understand your sentiment.

The Collins signing so early in the window was clearly a false dawn, there is still time, but the noises aren't sounding promising are they.

Have we actually anything concrete to suggest that we were ever in for him?

If we are in for him - He hasn't signed for anyone at this stage so nothing has been wasted.

I highly doubt we are looking at 1 player at a time. I can imagine there are always different conversations going on.

The reports of the player having a preference to play in Germany have been around for weeks so I wouldn't be put off by what is being reported as fact when it's likely a journalist just piggybacking off what they have read from an earlier report which probably has equally no credibility

Back to the crap puns again then, so our chances of signing Cornet have melted away.
