Absolutely no chance that Dyche goes after a player like Lookman or Perreira. I'll show my arse in Burton's window, as they say.

Maitland-Niles is the dream signing for us in that wide midfield role on the right. Marc Albrighton would be excellent too, albeit older and so little resale value (yes it's important).

so you think if Dyche became manager of Man United and had a wedge of cash to spend he'd still sign and play Ashley Barnes over a Marcus Rashford ?

I don't buy this Dyche type player at all, he's been forced down a rabbit hole due to lack of finance (at PL level)

You are right.
In fact FIFA are considering scrapping Summer breaks altogether so that the players stay 100% prepared and fresh ;)

And I don't buy the idea that the only reason Dyche has always favoured workers over flair players is simply because of the finance available to him (or lack thereof).

I think, as ever, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. At the end of the day he's always going to be one of the more conservative and cautious managers, and for Burnley, I don't believe that will ever change. I don't believe he would ever sign a player with the profile of Perreira, he would always go for the Albrighton. His management of the recruitment has served us well.

If he became the manager of a Man Utd, he'd have players bought for him, which is why he'd never get a job like that.

Albrighton featured in 31 games for Leicester last season
They have another season in Europe to look forward to so why would he seriously want to come to Burnley
Can't see us being able to compete on wages, just a matter of whether he can get a min two year deal to stay, with Rodgers saying they are looking to offer another contract
Seems like a rumour as a bargaining tool from his agent to get a new deal at Leicester sorted out in the next couple of weeks

If the agents creating rumours to get their player a better deal scenario was as common and obvious as made out on here, then surely the players current club wouldn’t fall for it?

All players will keep their options open on an ongoing basis (accidental alliteration) (and again) (etc).

Not exactly a rumour, the agent could have contacted clubs in the hope of getting the player a better deal

Come on folks. It's tiresome now. Dyche will never have envisaged Burnley would be considered an established Premier League club when he took over.

It was new ground for us as it was for him, and whether we like it or not, we are indeed a small club by PL standards. We have made a mockery of the small town/club mindset by achieving and maintaining this level.

Please stop knocking the club's ambitions and way of working. Throwing cash recklessly at the first team could end our little session in the sun and leave us belly up.

Leave funding to the people who are no doubt very well paid to guide us through these tough waters. If we had spent anything near Brighton have spent and finished 17th I'd have some concerns, but as it is, UTC.

To be fair they just sold a central defender for £50m, they have a keeper worth £20m+, a right back worth £40m+ and a central midfielder worth £40m+. I know they've spent a lot but players don't automatically become worth £0 once you've purchased them, they have a lot of money they can recoup in player sales.

Not a link, rumour or suggestion, but just showing how recruitment can change quickly with summer cups and leagues.

Tajon Buchanan, 22 has now qualified for enough WP points because Canada have been playing in the Gold Cup. Plays in MLS so also can gain points when players in winter leagues can’t.

Skillful winger plays anywhere up and down the right even RB. Loads of offers from France Germany Belgium. New England looking for about 10m.

Just find it interesting how a player can suddenly qualify mid summer….wonder if we track that kind of thing.

Quite simple, some Burnley fans have it in their heads that spending lots each year is the way forward to playing pretty football.

Brighton are an example of spending lots and playing pretty football but achieving the same or less than us.

To be fair DJ there is a direct correlation between money spent and league position.

Burnley are actually the ones that regularly beat this trend.

As usual the teams that spend the most money on fees and wages typically win the league

Brighton have the 11th highest net spend in European football.

They've won absolutely bugger all and only just about finished above us last season by 2 points and that's the first time in years they've finished above us.

Yes I get what you are saying regards to Brighton but I was merely reacting to your statement about money and good football.

As a general rule of thumb money does lead to good football. Brighton are an example of when it doesn’t always work and Burnley are the opposite they have proven it can work with little finance.

However, I think we can all agree if Dyche had Brighton’s funding the club would be in a considerably better position. (However that kind of funding is unsustainable unless you do Leicester)

The league position would potentially be better but the financial position would potentially be just as precarious and there's still no guarantee Dyche would do a better job than Potter.

Dyche has always started each season with getting to 40 points first and anything after that is a bonus.
We seem to alternate between a mid table finish one year and the next a lower end finish, but that's not unique to Burnley.

It takes a lot of very good signings to become consistently mid table but there will also be a number of very poor signings made along the way, see West Ham having a clear out and selling players they paid £30 million for the other year for £4 million ish now just to get rid.

Dyche has shown he can make a team that plays attractive attacking football, he just needs to do it again and find the right players at the right price to do so.

What do you mean not much gained? What have we gained that they haven't? Surely the objective for both clubs is to just survive? they have achieved that, like us. As for wasted money, you're completely forgetting the players they've bought aren't suddenly worth nothing, they have over £150m in players to sell.

net spend includes assets purchased but doesn't factor in what those assets are worth. Go through their squad, there's easily another £200m+ of assets, add in the potential £50m sale of Ben White. They didn't spend money on players and just instantly lose that money, it's an investment.

Webster £30m
Dunk £20m
Lamptey £40m (potentially £60m)
Bissouma £45m
Sanchez £20m-£30m
Maupay £10m
Trossard £30m
White £50m
Mac Allister £25m

They've spent money but they've got alot of valuable players, we haven't spent much so we don't have valuable players.

First of all... They spent way more than 10M on Maupay. Second of all probably very few of those players are being scouted at those prices. White is, however they didn't sign him from anyone. Bissouma and Lamptey are the only ones attracting much interest. I don't particularly rate Bissouma and if he goes to a top club I doubt he'll play much. Lamptey was way behind James at Chelsea and still has a lot to learn (a bit reckless) and a bit undersized. Brighton are well over rated and I can see Potter coaching Birmingham in League One a year or two from now. Thinking they could be this season's surprise relegation fodder. There is one every year and I hope it isn't us!

This is just this window:

Jahanbaksh cost 18m, sold for 1m
Propper cost 11m, left on a free
Izquierdo cost 13m left on a free
Bernardo cost 9m left on a free
Locadia cost 15m been on loan to MLS for 2 years basically worthless.

If we did that we’d be bankrupt and this board would be in meltdown.

Gibson bought 15m, sold 7m
Hendrick bought 10m, sold 0
Brady bought 12m, sold 0

It hasn't effected us, providing you survive in the league, you're good. They got very very good value out of Propper, same as we did with Hendrick regardless of if they left on free transfers. Every club has dud signings, they have spent more than us but they've also got a squad worth more than ours if they need to sell.

They spent 15 on Maupay I think, I wouldn't say his value has increased but he's young enough that he'll be worth 10+ still. I don't care if Bissouma will play at a top club, I pointed out his value which is around 35-40m. Lamptey's Chelsea career is irrelevant, he left there when he was 18 or something, Chelsea produce young talent and sell them and they've let world class superstars go in the past. Brighton overrated? by who? they're a bang average PL side, survive every year without pulling up trees.

My point was they've spent a lot but their squad is worth £200m+ so they can recoup money further down the line. Players aren't worth £0 once they've been purchased. If we spend a little more, maybe we can also have a squad worth a fortune too, age is a big factor in value too. As for Potter coaching in League One, that wont be happening anytime soon, he did a remarkable job at Ostersunds, good job at Swansea and kept Brighton up last year comfortably. I see no reason he'd drop down 2 leagues in 1 year.

As for relegation fodder, I wouldn't be surprised if either us or Brighton were relegated, we seriously need a good window.
