The quantity of positive reports of players we are linked with that we have already offered deals too is a million times better than in the last 4 transfer windows.

It really looks like the new guard are providing the funds we desparately needed to improve the squad.

Ashley Young is a LB now. Where has the Charlie love-in gone?
Still a fine player but not a space that needs filling.

The two role's he can play in are already taken at Burnley, can't see us dropping Taylor or McNeil for him unless they are thinking of putting McNeil on the right

I certainly hope they aren't. Last championship manager was released in 2016.
It was a good game before the split though. Now it's all football manager, which in all honesty is more accurate than you may think.

I wouldn't touch Young at any price
Renowned for playing when he’s arsed?

Can’t recall that accusation ever being aimed at Young.

Always looked like a good pro to me.

You would have to say he must have been arsed a lot last season for Conte to play him regularly. You don’t play as many games as Young has done at the top level, and for big clubs too, if you only play when you’re arsed.

All these rumours about Young and the Stoke player Collins
Surely Dyche has to sign a contract before the board push forward with these signings.
If he leaves the new managers will have different targets.

I realise that. But for example if Collins joins he will probably sign 4 year contract. At a large fee plus wages.
If Dyche leaves in 3 months the new manager may not rate Collins.

No different than signing all those players in the summer of 2012 and the manager leaves after 10 games. You can’t plan your transfer business on the possibilities of the manager leaving.

We will never know for sure but would guess Hodge and Rigg (when there) were more likely to have suggested Collins as I would see their brief/role to bring in players with a future in mind - same applies to the likes of Worrall and Fry

SD seems more about the here and now and wants experience of playing at Prem or other high level. You can't blame him for that and I am sure most people on here would be somewhat anxious about the likes of Collins playing in the first game of next season as opposed to Tarks or even the likes of say Kyle Bartley who we have been linked with previously

In addition the likes of younger players will need a fair bit of scouting done on them. Yes we have a team to do that but the manager will, quite rightly, not just accept the opinions of others without knowing himself the skillsets of each player - he even went over to Belgium to watch Defour before any deal was done

With all the additional pressures on managers nowadays SD just doesn't have enough time to watch all prospects himself and therefore may baulk at player suggestions if he hasn't been able to see them in a "live" situation

It's been said on here in the past that SD veto'd a number of suggestions from our recruitment teams

It doesn’t work like. Managers leave clubs at all times of the season. He’s under contract and as much as we’d like him to commit to longer the fact remains he’s under contract. You don’t stop doing the recruitment necessary because your manager is in the last year of his contract.

I think the best one ever was Liverpool signing Ray Kennedy from Arsenal in 1974. He signed his forms in front of manager Bill Shankly who then immediately resigned.

Centre forward at Arsenal and Paisley turned him into a left side midfield player and what a player. I always thought he was the player that made that Liverpool team tick.

Dyche’s contract situation may or may not have an influence on the club’s desire to move forward with recruitment, you’d hope not. But to assume that it doesn’t have an impact on the other side of that process - the players we want to sign - may be wishful thinking too.

Dyche’s contract still has a year to run. This is well known. As is the fact that his name pops up in conversations about most prem level vacancies whenever they arise. As too is the fact that the club want to tie him down for longer and he has, as yet, not committed. How does this not influence any possible new signings when a big draw for them may well be the opportunity to work with our manager and the set up he has created?

In all likelihood there’s much more we’re not privy to that could allay any concerns, but from what’s been reported it isn’t too great a stretch to draw the above conclusions.

A truly great midfielder, as well.
I knew he had Parkinson's. When he was at Swansea, Toshack had a go at him for seemingly not trying. Nothing could have been further from the truth. His motor skills had already been affected.

Hi RM, I think you are overthinking it. How does signing a player work at Chelsea or any club where Mourinho is the coach/manager? There are some clubs where it is odds on that the coach/manager will not be there at the end of the season. Isn't that part of the reason there have been so many open positions in the Premier League? Players will look at the wages offered. If they also like the manager they will be thinking perhaps he will also sign me for his next club, if I can impress the manager.

Oh, I almost certainly am. But clubs like Chelsea where the turnover of manager is almost built in to their culture are a different entity to the likes of us. We pay less than most so we need to focus on other enticements to attract players, and I think Dyche is certainly a huge factor here. Maybe this is a feature of us being a small fish etc and were we at what I expect many of us thought our natural level (mid table prem) then it wouldn’t be an issue. But we’re in the premier league and we’re trying to attract players that can, or have the potential to, play in the top division.

As I said in my previous post, there’s probably much behind the scenes that we don’t know and consigns my ramblings to the bin, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think our USP of a manager who has done much to mould the culture of the club in his image is a factor in players signing.

CT, I think the big difference between modern coaches/managers signing players, and then leaving or being sacked, and that situation with Shankly was that Liverpool's "boot room" culture assured they had a line of succession. These days managers take their coaching staff with them. A whole different game.

It’s why I’d want Dyche heavily involved with succession planning, to try to mitigate the impact.

Hopefully the new board is developing a plan for this eventuality. Touch wood, it’ll be a while until it’s needed, but it will be and we have to be as prepared as is possible.

What is happening with Dyche’s contract?

It was reported widely, including Chris Boden backing on to the Daily Mail article (and unlike many, I find Chris usually close to the truth and doesn’t stick his neck out without being well informed himself which I respect) that he was days away from signing a new contract. We then get a load of click bait articles and people trying to make a name for themselves on Twitter saying he’d signed one.

I never believed the latter, but the former sounded well researched. The concern is, what is the hold up? I guess nothing would stop holidays for managers etc as they could do the isolation no problem but time has definitely rolled on since those articles so you’d have to think there is some delay at this point - be that terms of deal or reticence to actually sign it. I find that a bit worrying.

I think you have to look at it from Dyches point of view.

He has nothing to gain from signing that contract. He is in the driving seat, he can leave until next summer to agree a package (where he could get more money). He is also a much more desirable manager if his contract is ran right down. He might have his eye on the Leicester job if Rodgers ends up going to a top club.

Nothing to back this up but I think Dyche will wait till the season starts before making decision.

According to today's BBC Gossip Column Crystal Palace are on the verge of tabling a £15m offer to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea on a permanent basis and they don't yet have a manager.

Unless Dyche has given the go ahead of course.
