Our squad isn’t in a ‘really poor position’. We need a few players, that’s a given, but they’re not ‘desperately required’ before we return to pre-season. It would be nice to get some of our business done early but the reality of the situation is that some signings may need to wait.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:48 pmIt is only June but we are in a really poor position with our squad. Signings desperately required before we return for pre season.
I nearly spit my brew out when I read thatrandomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 7:08 pmMust be quite a thing for the new owners to make their first signing for the club; this is where retaining Mr Garlick's expertise in such matters will be invaluable..
Let's face it, if we lose and cannot adequately replace James Tarkowski v Ashley Young will scarcely be relevant to our survival.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:55 pmDail mail now reporting Young is in line for an emotional return to Aston Villa.
Really?Rileybobs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:56 pmOur squad isn’t in a ‘really poor position’. Well as things stand we have a squad that survived an injury ravaged season comfortably, without any significant departures. So it’s nowhere near as desperate as you’re making out. We’ll hopefully sign a few players to strengthen the areas where we are weakest but we don’t ‘desperately’ need to sign these players before pre-season starts. And it’s unrealistic to expect that we will.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:00 pmReally?
We have a senior squad of what 20 players? With 6 of them out of contract at the end of next season. When you add into the fact there is a good chance we will be fielding the oldest eleven in the league next season, wouldnt exactly say we are in a healthy spot.
Thats what i had been told, and posted earlier.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:55 pmDail mail now reporting Young is in line for an emotional return to Aston Villa.
Fair enough, I just don’t see how having the oldest squad in the league with 30% of the squad out of contract in 12 months can be deemed as not poor.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:04 pmWell as things stand we have a squad that survived an injury ravaged season comfortably, without any significant departures. Someone has got to have the oldest squad in the league. I haven’t said we will go into this season without any additions, just that the situation is nowhere near as desperate as you’re making out. And that saying we need these players in before pre-season starts is daft and unrealistic.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:08 pmFair enough, I just don’t see how having the oldest squad in the league with 30% of the squad out of contract in 12 months can be deemed as not poor.
We are expecting miracles from Dyche if we go into this season without major additions.
Very unlikely that we will have the players we want in before pre-season. The concern is that new signings might not arrive until after the season has started.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:11 pmSomeone has got to have the oldest squad in the league. Why is it daft and unrealistic? What are we actually getting out of the new owners, I thought there whole selling point to the fans was that they could get business done quicker?Rileybobs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:11 pmSomeone has got to have the oldest squad in the league. Yes agreed, that would be more of a concern. But I wouldn’t be overly concerned if we had to play the first couple of games of the season with our current squad. Any departures obviously change that scenario.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:14 pmVery unlikely that we will have the players we want in before pre-season. Tony out of interest what is the reasoning? Surely Dyche wants these players in for pre seasonClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:14 pmVery unlikely that we will have the players we want in before pre-season. The concern is that new signings might not arrive until after the season has started.
Who is this concern lying with ? Dyche? Is this why he hasn’t signed ?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:14 pmVery unlikely that we will have the players we want in before pre-season. The concern is that new signings might not arrive until after the season has started.
We do not want to be starting the season with the current squad
Because not a lot of business gets done before pre-season starts. Especially not when an international tournament is ongoing.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:15 pmWhy is it daft and unrealistic? If they can’t then what do we actually gain from this takeover
Do you mean that this will have a bearing on whether Dyche is still with us, or are just concerned about the quality of the current squad?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:19 pmWe do not want to be starting the season with the current squad
The new owners have regularly talked about how funds will be made available to get deals done quicker and to support Dyche.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:20 pmBecause not a lot of business gets done before pre-season starts. Especially not when an international tournament is ongoing.
Not sure where you have got that selling point about the new owners from? I’ve never seen anything from them that suggests that. I also don’t understand your question about what we gain from the takeover as the intention was never for ‘us’ to gain anything. The previous owners wanted to sell and the new owners wanted to buy.
We need new players and we don’t want a situation where they are coming in after the start of the season. There have to be concerns with the current squad. It ended last season with seven defeats in the last nine games.
If we start the season with the current squad then someone somewhere has failed and let us down badly.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:33 pmWe need new players and we don’t want a situation where they are coming in after the start of the season. Tony has something changed recently? I was under the impression things were starting to look up on a recruitment point of viewClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:33 pmWe need new players and we don’t want a situation where they are coming in after the start of the season. Changed in what sense?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:40 pmTony has something changed recently? I was under the impression things were starting to look up on a recruitment point of view
Was always worried when we hit the BeeB yesterdayNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 8:55 pmDail mail now reporting Young is in line for an emotional return to Aston Villa.
What's changed is we used to have cash to pay up front but now the club is in debt thanks to the new owner.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 9:40 pmTony has something changed recently? I was under the impression things were starting to look up on a recruitment point of view
Looking that way. If Villa are interested, that’s that, but also wouldn’t shock me to see him accept an improved deal at Inter after a load of speculation.
I don't agree with this, I'm pretty sure the old board will have been a big part of structuring the deal with the new owners. Equally we didn't spend money up front in the last window when the old board was still here (I'm not counting Dale Stephens).levraiclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 10:20 pmWhat's changed is we used to have cash to pay up front but now the club is in debt thanks to the new owner.
What does that have to do with transfers?
Very few (if any) of us really know the financial situation at the club.

Well given our owners/directors have a history of failing at clubs and being forced out due to lack of finances I would suggest that is true.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 10:48 pmVery few (if any) of us really know the financial situation at the club.
My own guess is we haven't a pot to urinate in...

What are you talking about? I've replied to a comment on this thread that is about transfers and why we can't sign them. I have disagreed with his comment about blame lying solely on the new owner when the old board clearly have as much to do with it.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 10:47 pmWhat does that have to do with transfers?
Why not count Stephens?
Well we’ll find that out over the next 10 weeks for sure.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 10:48 pmVery few (if any) of us really know the financial situation at the club.

Chester gave a bit of info on this on one of the other threads.
It’s probably how it comes across in writing. Not defensive at all just didn’t understand your point.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 10:55 pmWhat are you talking about? I am not counting Dale Stephens as a signing that we payed up front for as it was peanuts.
If I was in the mood I would point out your post literally has nothing to do with transfers, you only seen interested in my opinion. You also seem to have gotten very defensive on another users behalf, are you one of those with multiple accounts?
Exactly. Think we’re going to be linked with a fair few this summer with so many Bosmans knocking around and I only want the players that really want to be here. If AY, or any other target for that matter, would rather be at Villa - fair enough and good luck. Just hope we go big on the ones we really want.
And when did we last pay cash for a deal? What we have got now is a chairman who is prepared to back the manager.levraiclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 10:20 pmWhat's changed is we used to have cash to pay up front but now the club is in debt thanks to the new owner.
