Our squad isn’t in a ‘really poor position’. We need a few players, that’s a given, but they’re not ‘desperately required’ before we return to pre-season. It would be nice to get some of our business done early but the reality of the situation is that some signings may need to wait.

Let's face it, if we lose and cannot adequately replace James Tarkowski v Ashley Young will scarcely be relevant to our survival.

Really?

We have a senior squad of what 20 players? With 6 of them out of contract at the end of next season. When you add into the fact there is a good chance we will be fielding the oldest eleven in the league next season, wouldnt exactly say we are in a healthy spot.

Well as things stand we have a squad that survived an injury ravaged season comfortably, without any significant departures. So it’s nowhere near as desperate as you’re making out. We’ll hopefully sign a few players to strengthen the areas where we are weakest but we don’t ‘desperately’ need to sign these players before pre-season starts. And it’s unrealistic to expect that we will.

Someone has got to have the oldest squad in the league. I haven’t said we will go into this season without any additions, just that the situation is nowhere near as desperate as you’re making out. And that saying we need these players in before pre-season starts is daft and unrealistic.

A lot more competition for Young at Villa than there would be with us. I was encourage by him signing for us for a year, but if this is true then I can see why he’d want to go back.

Very unlikely that we will have the players we want in before pre-season. The concern is that new signings might not arrive until after the season has started.

Yes agreed, that would be more of a concern. But I wouldn’t be overly concerned if we had to play the first couple of games of the season with our current squad. Any departures obviously change that scenario.

Not sure where you have got that selling point about the new owners from? I’ve never seen anything from them that suggests that. I also don’t understand your question about what we gain from the takeover as the intention was never for ‘us’ to gain anything. The previous owners wanted to sell and the new owners wanted to buy.

The new owners have regularly talked about how funds will be made available to get deals done quicker and to support Dyche.

Reckon he will defo go to Villa if they are interested. Im sure you they can offer higher wages, maybe the contract length could persuade him to join us.

If we start the season with the current squad then someone somewhere has failed and let us down badly.

We cannot start the season with the current squad it’s threadbare and lacking in both pace and quality.

Young for me would be a good start to recruitment. Our most important positions for our style under Dyche are the full backs.

The cynic in me thinks it's likely the noise around him joining us was probably part used by his agent to get other offers.

Fact of life - only the big, big spenders can offer the contracts terms (and fringe benefits) that will complete early deals. The market dictates late, late (Brexit-like) deals where agents are very heavily involved. They always advise their clients to wait and see what turns up. This now applies to our manager as well as to any of our incoming or outgoing players.

The only change in this situation as far as BFC is concerned is likely to surround a suitor for Tarks at an attractive fee. Even then our club will have to persuade a player, his agent and the parent club to part with an asset, rather than hanging on for a better 11th hour offer.

Unfortunately I can only see us starting the new season with the same team - except Tarks.

What's changed is we used to have cash to pay up front but now the club is in debt thanks to the new owner.

High profile players that are in demand are not going to end up playing for BFC.

We cannot afford to pay the high wages and offer a lucrative enough contract that is attractive to these big name players/earners.

That is just a fact of life.

Looking that way. If Villa are interested, that’s that, but also wouldn’t shock me to see him accept an improved deal at Inter after a load of speculation.

I don't agree with this, I'm pretty sure the old board will have been a big part of structuring the deal with the new owners. Equally we didn't spend money up front in the last window when the old board was still here (I'm not counting Dale Stephens).

If SD starts next season without signing a new deal when does the board start making discreet inquiries about a possibility of a new manager ?? Surely we can't keep the faith right until 1st June 2022 and he waves goodbye ?

Well given our owners/directors have a history of failing at clubs and being forced out due to lack of finances I would suggest that is true.
