Mental Health Week 2021

Post by jdrobbo » Sun May 09, 2021 7:38 pm

An excellent way of raising awareness around mental health. From my own experiences in the last six months or so, I’ve learnt that there are some wonderfully patient and understanding people in the world, but also, that there’s still a great deal of education required, in terms of shifting mindsets and removing stigma.

This is an amazing community and 90+% of the time, there’s a really supportive and constructive vibe, where people genuinely seem to value the opinions of others or who can offer support and advice.

In this next week, can I ask that we make this forum the very best place that it possibly can be and hopefully, make it a very welcoming place for all.

If anyone does need to reach out due to not being in the best of places, no matter how trivial you may think it might seem to some, please use this thread.

It has been a terrifically difficult year for some and I hope that the light at the end of the tunnel, brings some hope. I fully appreciate that for others, things are difficult on a day-to-day basis.

Fingers crossed for a good performance against Fulham tomorrow.

Be kind, folks.

Best wishes and UTC

John

Been there got the t-shirt - sorted now thanks to some fabulous, talented and understanding
people.

Don't suffer in silence, seek help - there's plenty of help out there if you'll only reach for it.

Take care everyone.

Thanks for posting jd. As a volunteer with the Samaritans may I just flag up the service: available 24/7 on freephone 116123, plus other ways of getting in touch. Opening up to someone about how you are feeling can be the first step towards getting support. If you want to know a bit about how to listen to someone who appears to be struggling google the Samaritans SHUSH listening tips.

Got the t-shirt too but I'm not sure I'll ever be sorted so really pleased you have got there Funkydrummer. I've had some tough times in the last year but a needle in the arm this morning will give me something to build on and, as unimportant as it might seem, so will knowing we will be playing Premier League football next season.

And thanks for starting the thread John, someone who I know has suffered at times because of my mental state.

No problem CT.

Hope the win has given those who need it most, a bit of a lift.

It does me but the one thing I've missed is going to football and enjoying the company of friends and family when I do go. And when you lose something that you enjoy then it does have an effect on your mental well being so it is no surprise to see so many people suffering right now.

Good post,jd. I' ve had a poor two years mental health wise but as has been mentioned there are people, skilled, caring people, out there who want to help. It's a long battle but one that doesn't need to be fought alone. There is no shame asking for help.

I have really struggled though the whole of Lockdown.
I go for a walk every day with my partner, but find it hard to see anyone else.
I cant even join in with any zoom meetings, as I have panic attacks before hand.
I really hope I can get back on track soon, but I know i have a long way yo go before I will be at my best.

So sorry to hear that you’ve found Lockdown so hard Meg. Great that you’re managing to get out but completely understand re: not seeing others. Hope to see you soon!

Hope everyone is ok
